Chapter 15 - Tracking the culprit (3)

"Have you background check each guests?"

"Yes. And we found out that the ten guests who do not have their alibis checked are acquainted with the victim."

"Bring them in for questioning. And check every person who are friends, acquaintances or anyone who knew the victim, see if the victim has enemies, person who have disagreement with, affairs whatever."

"The Wilson family have given permission to have us borrow one of their rooms for our use. Make sure to utilize it and find the culprit as soon as possible."

"Also, make sure to check the suspects of the previous case and see if there are any link to this case."

"Understood."

"Keep me posted."

The man on the phone did not speak after that, ending the call.

The policeman with the round hat glanced at his team members and sighed.

"Second murder case. Same method of killing, identical victims. Tell me you find a connection that we can link between the first victim and the second."

Among the officers gathering around, a blonde woman with a police cap on her head reported.

"We have checked the background of the two victims, but they are from different cities, grow up in very different environment. The first victim was a sales manager in a jewelry company while the second victim is a violinist. They don't have common acquaintances and aside from the fact that they are both females and are in their twenties, there are no other similarities."

The round hat police man hummed in response.

"Then we can't rule out the possibility that we are dealing with a serial murderer who targeted young women and somehow, drained their blood to make them that shriveled."

"Sergeant... It couldn't be... that the legends are true, right? That the thousand year old vampire had come back this time to hunt down young women..."

"Stop talking nonsense." The Sergeant interrupted. He glance coldly at the bearded man who stuttered those words.

"If you, a police officer, believe in such rumors, how are you going to face the public? Tell them that their fears are true and vampires are running rampant in the city? If we, the police, get scared so easily, then who will protect the public? Huh?"

The bearded man bowed his head in shame.

"Don't talk such nonsense again, you understand me?"

"Yes, Sergeant." Everyone obviously shared the same thoughts. That this investigation is futile because they are definitely dealing with a monster.

A monster that could not be killed by bullets or be imprisoned. Thousand of years ago, the legend of vampires has been passed on.

Young women will be killed every week straight for three months. And then, the killing stopped. Twenty years later, another killing spree will take place.

The state of the killed victims is the same as the corpse they retrieved.

The skin of beautiful young women is shriveled and withered, having their blood sucked out of their body viciously.

Lawrence had listened to the discussion and stood at the side, not letting his presence known.

He was as quiet as a chicken, but he took note of all the clues and findings the police have gathered.

The picture of the gory shriveled body of the two victims was laid on the table. Obviously, the forensic people take the picture in different angle. From the side view 45 degrees, to the top view then another shot from the side, this time 30 degrees angle down.

There's also the two punctured wounds on the neck that dug deeper into the bones and flesh of the victims.

It was the carotid artery that was punctured by the two holes. Despite that, there was not a single drop of blood in the crime scene.

Everything is so clean, including the pretty clothes the victims wore that there wasn't even a single sign of struggle coming from the victims.

The woman with blonde hair placed the folder that contains the written documents of the result of the autopsy, the detailed records of who are the guests that attended the party, their whereabouts at the time of death, and even the statements of the servants and waiters who served the guests... all these details are inside the folder that she casually placed on the table.

The Sergeant opened the cctv footage and all of them watched the recordings at the time of death.

Lawrence took this time, while they were preoccupied, to take the folder and hurriedly slip to the furthest corner of the room. He opened the forensic report and skimmed his eyes.

Five inch deep incineration at the carotid artery is the cause of death. The blood was drained and it all come out through this hole.

There are no other artificial wounds on the victim's body, no sign of struggle nor are their nails got damaged.

Are they knocked out cold before they were killed? Lawrence pondered.

But the result on the next page made him abandon this idea. There was no sleep inducing substance induced into the victim's body.

The next page is the list of guests including their personal information. Lawrence hurriedly remembered the names of the people invited, associating them with the faces he saw last night.

The last ten guest members who do not have alibis checked were circled with red marks. Their statements of whereabouts were also examined by the blonde woman police officer, but because most of them only states,

"I went out to smoke,"

"I wanted to get some fresh air."

"I want to enjoy my glass of champagne while admiring the Wilson garden,"

There's no way to validate, especially when there are no witnesses.

It took a total of ten minutes for Lawrence to review the evidence gathered by the police. He then silently walked back to the group and placed the folder back to where it was originally.

Meanwhile, the Sergeant divided the officers with their respective tasks. One team is in charge of assisting him in interrogating the ten guests who don't have alibis while the other team needs to check the surveillance to find any useful clues.

Lawrence chose to go join the latter.
