Chapter 20 - Tracking the culprit (8)

Lawrence was so engrossed in reading that he had forgotten there was a silly black and white dumpling he wrapped with the towel because it was being naughty.

It wasn't until a soft white meat pad slammed on the book page that he remembered.

The dumpling's fluffy fur was in a mess. Clear jade green eyes full of grievances were glaring at Lawrence.

"Meow, meow, meow Meowwr!!"

'You stinky brat!'

'Hmph! How dare you imprison this master?! And you even dare to forget me?!'

"Meow, meowr!!" Kevin padded the book page full of grievances. This was him slamming his palm on the book and scolding the smart and handsome protagonist, spouting curse after curse that can make elders' faces turn red in anger.

But Kevin's appearance was now a cat. And he stretched his body from the tabletop to meet Lawrence face to face.

But this stupid book get in the way! And he must express his grievances, if not, how could the two of them have a harmonious communication?

Unbeknownst to him, his current look, couple with his soft meow meow, despite being full of grievances, sounded really sweet and coquettish in Lawrence's ears.

As if Kevin is satisfied cursing and scolding, he jumped down and sits still at the tabletop, ignoring the smart and handsome protagonist completely, facing him with his butt to express his dissatisfaction!

Looking at the soft dumpling, Lawrence's heart softens inexplicably. He just wanted to teach this little troublemaker a lesson.

Being naughty by trying to climb on his shoulder while he was changing, what if this little dumpling fell down and broke something?

Not to mention the police officer he knocked down is still in the sofa.

Lawrence slid a glance at the man but found he was still sprawled on the sofa, unconscious.

He closed the book and grabbed the sulking cat on the table to the desk.

The dumpling in his arm grumbled and growl a little, but did not try to fight back when he carried it to the desk.

Kevin, the small dumpling, watched as how Lawrence sat down and opened the book he was reading.

The writings in the book were written by hand. Even the drawings are clearly drawn. It was like the person who left this book in his library might have used this book as a journal.

And the content is full of urban history.

Kevin, the small dumpling who used to be an author, knew this world very well.

When he focused on watching the handwriting, a scene he drafted in earlier days flashed in his mind.

One maid who seemed to be a victim became a vampire and was killed. A journal of an unknown person is left inside the library of a young master.

Kevin had a dark suspicion. He hurriedly pounced on the book and used his meat paw pad to flip the pages until he arrived at the last page.

A single sentence was written on it.

'They shall pay.' - HCVII

The letter H is the biggest with the CVII written at the side which is one quarter of the height of the H.

Seeing this symbol, the premonition formed in Kevin's heart was confirmed. Looks like this story won't follow the plot he published, but tend to extract details on his unpublished drafts.

How are these details gonna sync together, Kevin has no idea.

Well, this smart and handsome protagonist of his is here with lots of experience so he won't need to worry!

Just lie down and win!

Lawrence noticed his cat staring intently at the symbol, despite knowing he would not receive an answer, he still asked.

"Do you recognize this symbol Nala?"

"Meeow," Kevin meowed meekly.

He flipped the page back to the first page.

What Lawrence was reading earlier is a general gist of background or history of the world setting. Kevin meticulously flipped and found the page where the information for vampires and the owner's journey in tracking them started.

"Meow, meow," Kevin's pointed ears quivered and he stood up. He used his small meat paw pad to nudge at Lawrence then at the page.

"Meeow~"

'You read this first.'

'I will watch the door for you.'

He then jumped from the desk and reached the door within a couple of seconds.

"Meowr," Kevin meowed gently.

'Go read ah,'

'You are my smart protagonist. You should be able to figure everything out after reading the book,'

Lawrence was puzzled at first. He met the soft dumplings shiny and resolute eyes, as if urging him to read and he would stay at the door to guard him.

Guard him from what?

As soon as this question popped in his mind, he immediately knew the answer.

This book wasn't left on his book shelf for him to see it.

But at the same time, it was placed there for him to read.

Such contradiction...

Lawrence's curiosity was stirred.

Without another word, he let the cat do its thing and began to read.

***

In two hours, there was no sound in the quiet room. Kevin was bored.

Being a cat makes everything in his surroundings appear gigantic. In the first hour, he stayed still. He appeared noble and majestic when he stand at the door.

The fluffy tail, the contrasting white and black color, couple with his big round jade eyes, looks extremely noble if Kevin were to describe his cat looks.

There was a mirror at his side so he began admiring his soft belly, his fluffy fur, his shiny round jade eyes.

It wasn't until a movement caught his eyes at the left corner that he stopped.

There was a low groan coming from the sofa.

Kevin took a glance at the door before leaving his post.

Did that police officer wake up?

"Meow~" Kevin walked in front of the sofa.

Indeed, the man woke up, but he was still lying in the sofa, groaning for his shoulder in pain.

The innocent police officer could not make a head or tail of where he was when suddenly, a face of a cat suddenly came into his vision. A second later, his head slammed heavily to the cabinet beside the sofa. The collision was too heavy it made a loud thud, knocking out  the police officer, again.
