Chapter 9 - The tragedy at the party (2)

Lawrence helplessly smiled and rubbed the small furball's cheeks before he continued eating.

The butler saw the gentle smile that appeared in Lawrence's face as he stared at his cat and could not help but feel warm in his chest.

This aloof and withdrawn Young Master of his will never consider humans as companions, he will only trust his pet.

The butler took on a thoughtful expression as he glanced at the cat.

'I hope this cat can also protect the Young Master if this old servant will lose the ability to do so.'

'As much as possible, this old servant wanted to have the Young Master strong and independent, so as not to fall prey to the dark side. If he really is strong enough, he will surely survive and fight the darkness.'

Lawrence was oblivious of the old butler's thoughts and unhurriedly finished his 'breakfast'. He also took some time to finish the glass of warm milk.

A slight puff of white foam glittered in his mouth. The old butler handed Lawrence a napkin.

And Lawrence stared blankly at it. 'What's this for?'

Before the old butler could explain, the small furball who just recently finish his meal suddenly leap on Lawrence's lap and raised its meat paw pads on the side of Lawrence's mouth.

The old butler let out a chuckle.

"A white beard was formed in Young Master's mouth from the milk. It seemed Nala understood and pointed out where you will be needing the napkin."

Lawrence expressionlessly responded with an 'oh'. Then he used the napkin to wipe his white foam beard.

Kevin, who had taken the responsibility to express the old butler's intention to his servant, obediently sat at Lawrence's lap and majestically looked up.

'Now, look at this caring and responsible Master.'

'Aren't I generous and caring enough?'

'If I say this butler can be trusted, then you should trust him!'

'Tsk, you and your very distrustful to others nature. Make use of the butler to dig up information! Otherwise, it will be even more difficult if the incident has happened, no one in this manor is willing to acquiesce themselves to you except him!'

Kevin felt so full that he gets the urge to lick his front paw. So he abandons his position of showing his majestic side and bends down to lick his front paw.

Lawrence watched as the butler cleaned up after him. He then picked up the white and black furball in his lap and carried it with him back to the red sofa.

Lawrence placed the white and black furball in his lap and stroke his long fingers along the furball's back. The smoothness felt good to the touch. So he pulled the furball closer to his chest and glided down his fingers slowly.

The party was still on-going. But it seemed it had reached its last program since the head of the Wilson family is now making a farewell speech, thanking the guests for attending.

Right after the man finished, a round of polite applause came from the audience. The guests all wear smiles and exchanged words before they left one by one.

Seeing them like this, Kevin could not help but raise a brow.

As expected it has changed huh?

In his novel, one guest will find the body of a bloodless withered corpse of the woman in the alley. The guest mistakenly thought the body was a mannequin and called others to ask if someone can carry it to position it back, but when the other guest saw the body, they confirmed it was not a mannequin but a dead body.

Seeing the dead body caused an uproar. Someone from the servants hurriedly called the police to examine the corpse. When the police arrived and inspect if someone on the guest list was missing, the head of the Wilson family confirmed that the lady guest they invited to play a music piece for them did not appear. The guards who are stationed at the gate confirmed nobody come out when the party started so they all knew the lady did not go home...

No one expected that piece played by the lady was the last performance she will be able to do before she will depart.

That was the plot Kevin created for this party. Or at least it was one of his initial storylines he did not pursue to create and abandoned completely.

Lawrence watched the party end and still observed silently when the waiters and other maid staff put away the tables, chairs, and other decorations.

The butler came up to his side and quietly asked.

"If Young Master ever wants something, just call for this old servant through the telephone." The old butler pointed to the delicate silver telephone placed at the pillar in the corner and smiled.

Lawrence glanced at the telephone before turning his head to the old butler, "This party... what was it for?"

"Oh, it was an acquaintance party, Young Master. You see, your father recently signed a contract for a partnership with a rich businessman in the south and wanted to establish social connection with other business owners in the area so he invited them."

"Ah, then that lady who played the violin, do you know her?"

The butler thought for a moment before he replied. "Yes, she was famous in the music circle. The madam loved her violin so she invited her to perform tonight. When the lady agreed, the madam was so happy. You can still see the madam's joyous smile as she watched the lady perform earlier."

Lawrence nodded. "How did Mother get in touch with her?"

The old butler replied, "Through the help of your father, of course. Everyone in the theater and music circle knows your father, so when he brought his wife who invited the lady, no one dared to refuse. I'm sure the lady must have been very grateful to take on the opportunity to play for the whole Wilson family tonight."
