Chereads / The Greater Evil: (A Forbidden Romance) / Chapter 14 - 14. The Arena

Chapter 14 - 14. The Arena

Lilith's POV

Ramon took me on a walk. We seemed to go farther from the castle and I started to get scared.

"Where are we going?" I asked but not with fear. My fear was locked deep down in a corner that he or any other demon would never have access to.

"You demanded to know how I would help your people. I want to show you." He answered without turning back to glance at me.

In silence, I followed him forward. He took me through a field of beautiful green flowers that glowed in the dark.

Their beauty made my lips curl up in a smile, "They are beautiful."

"They are called the shades. They provide light on your way but they are soul suckers too. Beware not to get too close to them or you fall victim." He told me.

I foud myself moving away quietly from the flowers. No wonder they were secluded to the sides and a path was laid out in their midst.

I could not help but wonder how many unfortunate souls roaming the Haze had fallen prey to this evil disguised as good.

We got to another smaller structure but this one looked like a dungeon of some sort.

"This is the Arena. It is a place where demons are trained for war." He spread his arms out in explanation as we both entered into the dungeon.

Truthfully, there were a lot of warrior demons present. I had seen them in drawings in books at Celestial and they were termed strong and relentless.

He took me to a ring just like the one at Celestial, where demons trained. I could see hundreds of demons sparring and practicing their skills.

"It is impressive." I told him truthfully.

He chuckled, "Well, thank you for deeming me worthy of impressing you, princess."

"Come with me." He continued.

"Where are we going again?"

He did not answer me. He just kept walking, his wings flapping simultaneously to his steps. I almost reached out to touch them - they were so black and intriguing, it was almost like they were calling out for me to just touch them.

"Do you wish to remain here?" He pointed out with his eyebrows raised.

Good point.

I walked beside him as we exited the Arena.

"I thought about something..."

"Does it have to do with helping my people?" I asked.

"No. It has to do with you."

That got my attention. What would Ramon want with me? Apart from fulfilling my wifely duties that is...

My heart pounded as I thought he was going to ask me to spend my late rest with him. I was not ready to be mated with a demon!

"I am..." I began but the words were hooked in my throat.

He stopped and looked at me curiously, "You are what?"

"I am not ready." I blurted out and watched his curiosity turn to amusement.

"Ready for what, princess?"

I knew he was enjoying my discomfort so I gave him a blank stare, "You know what."

He chuckled and shook his head, "Look at you jumping into conclusions. I only meant I thought you would like it if you trained while you stayed here."

His statement threw me off guard and while I was quite embarrassed for what I thought he was about to say, my curiousity overthrew my shame.

"Why would you want to do that?" His energy told me he didn't just think about it. He pondered a while on it before saying it to my face.

"Because I understand what it is like to be you, a wingless angel who is discriminated by her people..."

"My people love me." I objected quickly.

"That is what you let yourself believe. You are just like me, princess....an outcast."

I gritted my teeth in anger, "I am nothing like you!"

"Are you going to take my offer or not?" He exhaled tiredly like he was talking to a silly child who would not listen and I found it quite offensive.

"Take me to my chambers, right now."

"Stop acting like a newborn, Lilith!" He groaned.

"Oh, so you do know my name. Good for you because I am about to retire." I told him sarcastically.

He did not move to stop me when I portaled to my chambers. The space meant for me alone became tight and suffocating.

My chest heaved in anger as tears brimmed in my eyes.

"Ugh!" I screamed in frustration.

Who the hell did he think he was?!
