Chapter 50 - Chapter 49 The end of 'The Grand Maze'

On the other hand, Rona caught a bird and wanted to eat it. "Birdie! Food?" She took off a bag tied to the bird before eating it.

'Food? Here?' Ronald turned toward Rona and screamed. "No. Rona. That's not food!" Ronald tried to stop Rona from eating the bird, but it was already in her mouth.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

While Isaac and I were bickering, we heard a creepy sound. "What's that sound?" Isaac and I turned toward the crunching sound.

We saw a bird's leg stuck outside Rona's mouth. I released my grip, and Isaac ran toward Rona and tried to take the bird out of her mouth. "Spit that bird out!" Rona frowned and shook her head. Isaac tried choking her, but she quickly swallowed it.

Gulp.

Rona smiled. "Yummy birdie."

Isaac screamed at Ronald. "Why didn't you stop her?"

"I tried, but Rona is too strong for me." Ronald trembled in fear.

"How can she be stronger than you? You are twice her size."

"When Rona is hungry, nothing can stop, Rona," Rona said proudly.

I was disgusted by it and didn't go close to Rona. Instead, I pointed at the thing Rona was holding. "What's that thing Rona is holding?"

Rona raised the bag up and said. "Rona doesn't know. It was tied to the bird. But Rona knows this isn't edible."

"At least she knows there are things that are not edible." I walked closer and took the bag from Rona. I tried poking the bag. "It feels hard, so definitely not a slime or worm inside." Isaac snatched the bag from me. "Give me that." Isaac looked at the bag and cautiously opened the bag.

"Nothing jumped out." Ronald sighed in relief. We looked at each other and decided to peek inside. "Huh? Another red button?" I took the red button out of the bag. "What's with their weird obsession with red button?"

"I don't know anything anymore. So, do we press this?" Isaac gave up thinking and left the decision-making to me.

"I don't sense anything bad. I guess it's safe." I looked at Isaac, Rona, and Ronald. "Press it together?"

Rona jumped. "Together!" We nodded and pressed the red button together.

As soon as we pressed the red button, we disappeared and arrived at a stadium. "WINNER! WINNER! WINNER!" The crowd was cheering. 'Huh? Where?' I opened my eyes and a huge crowd of audience cheering for us. The crowd was much bigger than the one I saw in the first game. I looked around and saw Isaac, Rona, and Ronald next to me. I sighed in relief. 'Thank goodness nothing happened to them.'

"My, My, My. Would you look at that, we finally have our winner." We heard a familiar sound behind us. We turned and saw Mr. James smiling.

"Is it another hologram?" Isaac said.

Mr. James continued. "But there's 4? Oh, dear. There can only be one winner. What do we do? What do we do?" Mr. James panicked for a moment, then remained composed. "But most importantly, welcome back, 4 little bunnies."

I looked around and only saw four of us, and then I asked Mr. James. "What happened to the rest of them?"

"Dead."

Ronald stuttered. "C-Could it be the huge r-red button was a t-t-trap?"

"Yes, my bunnies. I wonder who suggests such a cruel and vicious trap?" Mr. James made a crying face.

"No doubt it's you," Isaac replied immediately.

Mr. James ignored Isaac and continued. "When you 4 bunnies saw and wanted to press the big trap red button, I was so... worried. But when you 4 bunnies found the right red button, I was so di-delighted."

"You wanted to say disappointed," Isaac said. Ronald and I looked at Isaac, then Mr. James.

"No, I didn't." Mr. James denied it.

"Yes, you did," Isaac argued back.

"No." Mr. James said angrily.

Rona looked at Mr. James and Isaac arguing and decided to join in. Rona raised her hand and said. "Rona thinks so, too."

"You see. Even Rona knows. So stop denying it because you're bad at lying." Isaac shouted.

"Pfft... I have no idea what you are all saying, so carry on." Mr. James dismissed Isaac and wanted to continue where he stopped.

"In denial old man." Isaac scoffed. My face was in shock when I heard that. 'Oh, I hope Mr. James didn't hear that, or else Isaac is going to be in BIG trouble.' I glanced at Mr. James and saw Mr. James's eyebrow twitching. 'Uh-oh...' I quickly covered Isaac's mouth before he added on more insulting things like he always does.

Isaac struggled and glared at me. "What are you doing? Hands off. Your hands are dirty and full of harmful bacteria." I whispered to Isaac. "Shut up! I'm saving your ass. Do you want him to kill you?"

Isaac gave me a curious look. "Why me? He hates you the most."

I facepalmed. "Hello? I only burnt Monica to ashes. You disintegrated Mr. Looney. Moreover, you just insulted him. Clearly, he would hate you more."

Isaac shook his head. "I'm just stating facts."

I stared at Isaac. 'Oui... He's beyond help.' I continue to cover his mouth. "Just keep quiet, you obnoxious fool."

I looked at Mr. James. He seems to be busy chatting with someone in his earpiece. Mr. James smiled. Ronald rushed toward me and whispered. "Did you just see that? Mr. James smiled. We might all die."

Rona teared up. "Rona won't see you all again?" I teared up too. "Oh, Rona." We hugged each other. Isaac grumbled. "That old man hasn't said a thing, and you guys already assumed we are all going to die?"

Ronald said in a small voice. "But Mr. James smiled."

"He always smiles."

"It was different. A really creepy smile. Like a pervert."

Isaac's face went pale. "That sadist did? Gosh. Why didn't you say so? We won't just die. We will get tortured first. Quick. Think of a plan... Oh, wait." Isaac looked at all of us and let out a deep, emotionless sigh. "Right, I forgot. I'm the only one who can make a plan."

Mr. James tapped his mic. "Test. Test. 1, 2, 3. This is a mic test."

We grabbed each other. "This is the end for us."

I sniffled. "I love you lots, and I hope we can see each other in the other life." Ronald nodded.

"Rona agrees." Rona said.

Isaac said. "I. HATE. GROUP. HUGS."

"Well, my beloved audience, we have a wonderful surprise for you. Apparently, the Grand Master had been watching this year's 'The Grand Maze' and decided to change the rules. The Grand Master was touched by the bunnies teamwork, friendship, and perseverance and decided to announce all 4 of these cute little bunnies as winners of 'The Grand Maze' Congratulations to our 4 Champions!"

The crowd that was confused moments ago went wild when they heard the announcement. They were cheering and jumping up and down with excitement. The temperature in the stadium rose and the music started. The spotlight shone on all 4 of us. We looked up and couldn't believe what had just happened. Mr. James moved closer to us and smiled. "Congratulations, you 4 deserve it. Go claim your wish coin." Mr. James directed us to the wish coin.

There were 4 wish coins in front of us. We looked at each other and exhaled. We reached out and took 1 each. I looked down at the wish coin in my palm. 'A wish. There is one, but should I? Can I really bring back, Ma? Will Ma be happy? Or will she be disappointed in me? What would Ma do?'

Isaac placed his hand on my shoulder. "You okay?" I looked at Isaac's wish coin. "I-I don't know. What about you?" Isaac picked wish coin up and said. "I'm satisfied with what I have."

I looked at Isaac in confusion. Isaac smiled and said. "It's rude to wish for the dead to be brought back. Instead, we should cherish whatever moments we have now. Besides, they will forever be with us no matter what." Isaac pressed his hands on his heart.

I smiled. "Ya. You're right. I may not be able to see Ma, but I know she lives in my heart, so that's fine to me. My memories with everyone will live inside me, and I'll carry them to the future." I looked at Rona and Ronald, who were still holding their wish coins. "Promise you all will stay beside me?"

Rona replied without hesitation. "Forever!" Ronald nodded. "Me too." I looked back at Isaac. "Even though being with you is a complete hassle but it was enjoyable, so I don't mind staying." I laughed. "No taking it back because, unlike most people, I'm a born troublemaker."

We turned and looked at Mr. James. "We are quite fulfilled with whatever we have. So we don't need these." We gave the wish coins back to Mr. James. Mr. James smiled. "This is the first time a winner of 'The Grand Maze' refused a wish coin. How bizarre." Mr. James gripped the wish coins and threw them into the air. The wish coins shattered into dust. All 4 of us suddenly felt sluggish. 'Oui... The fatigue finally took a toll on us, huh?' My eyes slowly close. The last thing I heard was. "Congratulations again. But unfortunately, this isn't the end for you. But rather the beginning, especially for you, the pawn." Mr. James pointed at me, and my body finally gave up as I slammed to the ground.
