Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Trust

Fun fact abt me: The moment I discover about BL genre, straight romance has lost its appeal. I haven't read it for years

After Stefan sent the message, his life was the same as always, and more importantly, there was no harassment from Damon. It's like the calm before the storm. Through these few days, he kept receiving red roses from whomever he knew. So to avoid upcoming headaches, he does what he is best at: ignores them. Besides, he discovers something weird about him; technically, he's a weirdo, but this is even weirder. He can take someone else's pain away mentally.

Yeah, that sounds crazy, but define crazy. If people told his old self that vampires exist, he might scoff at the idea, but he's already encountered two vampires with witches, so crazy doesn't exist in his vocabulary anymore. Anyhow, one night, while he was in his car with Caroline to send her home,he tried to wake her up from her nap, but suddenly darkening blood vessels that begin at the point of contact and work their way up from the fingers to the arm towards the chest and neck were formed.

He quickly pulls his hand away as his eyes widen while Caroline starts to wake up. Caroline thanked him before getting out of the car without feeling hungover. He was sure Caroline complained about headaches and could hardly walk by herself.

After that discovery, he comes to the conclusion that he can take or absorb someone else's pain. This was the first time it happened, but he himself is still not sure how it works. While he was busy thinking about that, he heard his door being knocked on. "Hello?" His hand froze on the door handle when he heard a girl's voice.

"Open the door,Alexander," he practically sang at my name. My body stiffened upon realising who it was. "She's bleeding an awful lot." He continued. "And why should I believe you? I don't know what trick you playi-" "She's Matt's sister, the one you saved in the woods. Does that ring any bell?" he cut me off with impatience laced in his voice as I was hesitant to open the door.

"OPENED THIS DOOR ALEC OR SHES GONNA DIE." Damon growled. I could just let her die since I'm not that close with her, but she's Matt's sister, and I could never forgive myself if I let someone die due to my selfishness.

"Come in," I said as my hand tightened on the door handle, and Damon smiled, flashing his sharp fang towards me. I don't understand why he would come to my house. Didn't Stefan say he took care of it? He threw this question at the back of his mind as he eyed Damon, who was making himself comfortable on the couch while Vili? Matt's sister is lying on a towel on the other couch. He doesn't want his new couch to be stained with blood, okay?

"Why exactly did you come here, Damon, and why is she with you?" I asked, feeling annoyed. "Dunno," he replied lazily. I narrowed my eyes at him. Stefan, say you're not coming back," I purposely ask as Damon is immediately in front of me. I flinched when he came close. Oh, did he, Alec?" Damon squinted his eyes as he asked in a playful tone. "Too bad,he underestimated me." Damon muttered, going back to the couch, and I decided to head to bed, already feeling exhausted from dealing with Damon.

It didn't take long for his eyes to close as sleepiness slowly crept in, but before he could even go to dreamland, he felt someone occupying the other side of the bed. He sat immediately but was held back by the arms that were around his waist. "Hush, just go to sleep, Xander," Damon whispered in his ears.

He cringed at the nickname and tried to remove Damon's arms from his body. Keyword tried. Damon's hold on his waist tightened. He feels uncomfortable sleeping while hugging like this, and both of them were men, for god's sake. But he eventually gives up his resistance, knowing Damon won't let go. Though feeling a bit uncomfortable, he fell asleep at last.

Alec awoke to find himself alone in the bed, which he appreciated. Before going to the toilet, he quickly made his bed. "Oh sh*t, sorry," he replied hurriedly, locking the door and searching around for Damon with a scowl on his face. Imagine his surprise when he discovered Vili on his toilet. Damon was drinking Bourbon in his kitchen at this hour, he discovered.

Seriously? What did he get that from? Alec isn't interested in knowing."Why are you still in here?" His voice was dripping with venom as Vili finally made her way to the kitchen. "Oh hey, you're Alec, right? Were we partying last night?" She asked, and Alec just stood there dumbfounded but nodded his head when he realised Damon must have compelled her.

Then he saw Damon and Vili start to suck each other's blood. He made a disgusted face on the display before going to his toilet. After he was done, and thankfully whatever they were doing was over, he entered the kitchen, and while he was drinking his coffee, Damon suddenly appeared beside him.

Alec looked at him from the corner of his eyes and said, "The door in front; I won't show you the way." He said this while sipping the drink. "I can't do Alexander; my brother took my ring," was all Damon said with a dramatic sigh. Alec looked at him sceptically, wondering what the big deal was. "Come on, you're smart; think, Alec, think," he urged, smirking. Alec looked around his house before gazing at Damon. He observed that all of the curtains were closed to keep the sunlight out.

"Your weaknesses are the sun," he realises, his eyes widening. You can't go outside without the ring." I informed him calmly. "I wouldn't say weakness, but 10 points for you." Damon clapped his hands, as if I had accomplished something significant.

"If I open the curtain, would you-" he hadn't even finished the sentence when, suddenly, music sounded from his living room as Vili was singing loudly. Damon was nowhere in sight, and he sighed again, feeling his headache coming. "I'm so over Tyler!" I heard Vili shout while dancing around as Damon was standing there, shirt open, which I just realised.

She kept complaining before lying on his new carpet, which still had small blood stains. He grimaced, knowing it would stain the carpet. "Jeremy, Elena's brother, huh?" Damon asked while still drinking the damn bourbon. Alec just sat on the couch, watching their interaction. Vili then walked up to Damon, asking why he doesn't have girlfriends and whatnot. Damon answered in typical jackass fashion.

"And did you have a girlfriend, Alec?" she directed the question to him as she walked wobbly towards Alec, "or boyfriend." Alec just shook his head, thinking he was straight as a ruler. "I've been in love. It's painful, pointless, and overrated. No more talking. Let's dance." Damon said while he and Vili started to dance following the song's beat.

He rolled his eyes before deciding to eat breakfast, which is a bowl of cereal. Hey, don't judge. "If I didn't watch you dance last night, I wouldn't know you could have fun." Damon's voice sounded behind me just as I finished eating. I ignored him while putting the bowl into the sink. "Where's Vili?" I asked after I noticed there was no sound of music or her voice in the living room.

"Vili? You mean Vicki," he said, chuckling. "Right, Uhurm, where's she?" I asked, clearing my throat when I said her name wrong the entire time. He stared at me for a second before shrugging his shoulders. "Damon, what did you do?" I asked, frowning, feeling something amiss.

Without further ado, I ran to the living room only to be greeted with Vicki lying on the ground. I went to her side to check for her pulse and started to panic when I couldn't.. I turned around and almost fell when Damon was in front of me. "You killed her. Fuck." I muttered a little breathlessly as he just grinned like it was normal. I never thought he would kill her, but again, this is Damon we're talking about.

"She'll wake up soon enough. No need to fret, Alexander. I feed her my blood, remember?" He said it as a matter of fact. I scooted a little far from him before asking why he did this as I trailed Vicki's lifeless body and scrunched my face in pain seeing her neck. Damon clearly killed her by snapping her neck. "She'll thank me," was the response, "and you don't seem too scared. Hmm, did you kill people too, Alec?" Damon asked, and Alec glared at him, to which Damon just sent him a smug smirk.

"Shut up, I'm not like you, and I've seen someone die in front of me," he snapped while muttering the last part to himself quietly. "What if she killed people once she became a vampire?" He was worried.

"Oh well, this is Stefan's fault," Damon shrugged while wondering what Stefan had to do with this matter. Stefan's message resurfaced in his mind as he tried to connect the dots. "What happened?" A voice groaned from the floor, and Alec still felt it was hard to believe someone who had died was alive now. Well, technically she's dead, but alive?

"You're dead." He heard Damon inform Vicki, who was still out of it. "Yeah, you drank my blood; I killed you, and now you have to feed in order to complete the process," Damon told Vicki flatly while walking a little closer towards her and standing beside Alec. "I would let you drink from Alec, but he's off limit. The only one who could taste his blood was me." Damon grinned and gazed smugly at Alec at the last sentence. Alec scoffed at that, but he also knew why.

"Why?" Vicki asked while standing up from the floor. She prepared to go out. "You don't want to be out there all alone, Damon said as he leaned against the wall. "You're about to get really freaky," Damon said, then moved to stop Vicki, who was prepared to open the door. "Okay, I had a really good time, and I want to go home," she said.

Uh, Vicki, what that asshole said was right," I said, trying to persuade her, ignoring the look Damon gave me. He came closer towards both of them, who stood at the door. "He's right. You're going to start craving blood, and you'll feel out of it if you don't." Damon informed her. "Come on, move," she muttered, pushing Damon weakly. Damon just laughed as Alec held Vicki's arms before she could get out. Black veins started to form on his own arms, and he let go quickly, ignoring Damon's questing gaze.

"I'm feeling a little bit better now. Let me go home, okay?" she said, which Alec gladly let her do, but not before Damon suggested to her that she go to Jeremy's house. Alec glared at him for making that suggestion.

"What was that, Alec?" He heard Damon's voice as he closed the door. "What was what?" He tried to sound like nothing was off. "I might be an asshole, but I'm not blind," Damon replied sarcastically. Uh, it's uh-" "What?" Damon cut him off, and Alec swears this guy just keeps disturbing him by talking. "I don't know, okay. It just happened suddenly. And why are you still here anyway?" he said, feeling annoyed.

"Do that to me," Damon said as he stood face-to-face with Alec. He wanted to refuse, but Damon had already taken his hand and held it. "Come on, Alexander," he simply glared at Damon before doing it nonetheless. He was unsure if he could do it again but stopped himself when the black veins spread from his hand and he felt pain in his head. Damon then let go of his hand, staring blankly at him. "Huh. Interesting." Was all Damon said as he was still massaging his throbbing head.

"I don't feel pissed with Stefan, but I'm still going to torture him anyway," Damon said cockily, resuming his usual self. "You're such an interesting person indeed; there's always another surprise." He said it again while smiling at Alec, though this time the smile seemed genuine.

He ended up spending time with Damon the whole day, listening to Damon's purpose for coming here. To free Katherine from the tomb, whom Alec believed was dead but was actually a vampire. He felt shocked when Damon just told him that. His reaction was an understatement since Damon was not the type to tell people his plan, and the guy seems to have trust issues too.

Of course,at the end, Damon threatened him not to tell a single soul about this, or he would drain his blood dry. Still, he feels flattered when Damon trusts him enough to tell him about that. But his good feelings for Damon disappear when the guy keeps annoying him to no end. "See you later,Alexander." Damon said it with a sh*t-eating grin before he was gone. "I'd rather not," he muttered to himself as he let out a sigh of relief when he was finally alone again this night.
