"No way, that can't be considered as him winning." the girl who had just finished fighting with Kevin said when she took off her helmet.
"Why not?" Anna asked. "I said magic was allowed and Kevin used his magic."
"But...But..." the girl stuttered.
"But nothing," Kevin said, "I won fair and square."
"That's the advantage of having strong magic, you don't always have to fight." Jake said.
"Yeah, and I can win without lifting a finger." Kevin concurred.
"That doesn't mean you shouldn't work hard." Anna said to Kevin. "Your possession magic will not work on everybody, just like how it didn't work on Jake during your fight."
"Why didn't it work on Jake?" Kevin asked.
"I told you, it's because I'm stronger than you." Jake said.
"That's kind of true." Anna said.
"What does that mean?" Kyle asked.
"It means, the reason why Kevin's magic didn't work on Jake could be because Kevin's magic isn't strong enough to possess Jake." Anna explained. "With the level your magic is currently at, there are some people you won't be able to possess due to how high their mental fortitude is. So in a way, you can't possess Jake because he's stronger than you, same way you can't possess me because I'm stronger than you."
"So after all that long talk, you still said the same thing I said." Jake told Anna.
"It wasn't long talk," Anna said, "I was explaining in details why Kevin couldn't possess you. Let's forget about that, who's ready for round two?"
Looking at the large television screen, the names of the students who had lost their fights were on the right hand side of the television with an 'X' next to them, while the students who had advanced to the next round had already been matched with their opponents.
"The first fight happening in round two is between Smith and Rick." Anna said. "Come over here and put on your helmets."
"Try not to hesitate this time Smith." Kevin said.
"He's right, you should try not to hesitate." Jake said.
"I'll try." Smith replied with his lack of confidence evident in his voice.
Walking forward to meet Miss Anna, Smith and Rick took the helmets from her and put them on.
Appearing in an arena with abandoned buildings, Smith saw his opponent, Rick, a couple of feet in front of him.
"Give up, there's no way you're going to beat me." Rick shouted from where he was.
'He's probably right.' Smith thought. 'But I have to try my best to win.'
"Don't try running into any of the buildings, it will only make this fight longer than it has to be." Rick said as he walked forward.
Getting into a fighting stance, Smith was ready to fight as best as he could so he could win. When Rick was close enough, Smith sent a kick to his legs and as Rick moved back to avoid the kick, Smith immediately punched him on the side of his face.
Quickly following up with another punch, Smith's fist was hit with the fist of Rick and they both were at a deadlock.
'How can this little wimp have the same amount of strength as me?' Rick thought as he tried to push back Smith's fist but couldn't.
'I won't let him win.' Smith thought as he made an unsuspecting attack with his other hand and gave Rick an uppercut.
Moving back by a few steps after receiving the uppercut from Smith, Rick was angry and began throwing a flurry of punches at Smith.
Dodging and evading some of the punches being thrown at him, Smith started to shake due to the number of punches that were hitting him. He wasn't able to block all of the punches and he was also able to deliver a few attacks to Rick.
Putting his hands together in front of him, Smith was trying to block all the hits coming from Rick then suddenly he fell to the floor and rolled to the side before quickly getting back to his feet. 'He's obviously stronger than me, so I have to use my head if I'm going to have a chance at winning this fight.'
Running towards Smith, Rick threw out his fist and sent a kick towards Smith's side.
Seeing the punch and kick coming towards him, Smith fell to the floor again and used all his strength to hit the one leg of Rick which was still on the ground.
Also falling to the floor, Rick sent out a kick to Smith's head but Smith evaded it by getting up to his feet and hitting Rick on the waist with his leg.
Grabbing onto Smith's leg, Rick dragged him back down to the ground and got on top of him. Pounding on the two hands Smith used to cover his head, Rick was not taking a break and just kept pounding. "You're lucky my type of magic is to sense the location of beings with magic. If I had a better type of magic, I would have won this fight by now."
While timing the way Rick was throwing his punches, Smith was using his magic to heal himself. It wasn't doing much because as he was healing himself Rick was hitting him again and again. Now knowing the timing of Rick's punches, Smith waited till he was sure one of Rick's arms was pulled back and the other arm was coming down on his hand.
Using one of his hands to deflect the punch that was coming down to hit him, Smith used his other hand to punch Rick in his stomach and immediately on his chin. Pushing Rick off him, Smith got to his feet and as he turned around to face Rick, he felt something go through his throat.
Dropping to the ground and putting his hands on his neck, Smith felt something sharp lodged inside his neck and he could feel liquid which he knew was blood, gushing onto his fingers.
Looking at the piece of glass he had picked up from the ground and shoved through Smith's neck, Rick pulled it out of Smith's neck and threw it away.
"Hey can he do that? Is he allowed to use weapons?" Jake asked.
"Yes. If you can remember, I never said the use of weapons weren't allowed." Anna answered. "And anyway, there weren't any items you could have used as weapons in the arenas you guys fought in."
