Waiting in line for his coffee on the way to school, Jake who was already late for class caught a glimpse of his girlfriend taking a turn behind one of the nearby buildings with his classmate Ben. Ben was the most popular guy in his class who had everything. He had the money, the charisma, and the looks to back it up but his attitude was as foul as a rotten egg. Jake was surprised that his girlfriend, who was always so petite and well mannered, could actually walk side by side with him so he left his line to find out what they were going to do. On getting to the building and taking a peek behind it, he saw his girlfriend kissing Ben and it didn't look like he was forcing her. The sight in front of his eyes was completely heartbreaking for him to bear looking at it for too long. After taking a deep breath and holding back his tears, he continued on his way to school without interrupting them.
When he reached school, he went straight to his class ignoring his friends who were in the hallway trying to be cool with some girls. He got to his class, sat down and put his head on the desk to think. Since this was their lunch break, no classes were going on. 'Why would she do that to me' Jake thought, 'it's not like I never gave her what she wanted, so why would she cheat on me with that scum. I know I might not be as rich as Ben but even still, it's not fair.' As the bell rang signalling the end of the lunch break, the class once again became crowded with his not so quiet classmates.
"Hey man, what happened back there? You totally ignored us" asked Ryan, his best friend. He was a bit bulky with a little muscle, and was the same height as Jake, although Jake was much more intelligent Ryan was more into sports making him more popular than Jake. "Sorry dude, I just found out Gwen's been cheating on me with that scum" Jake replied. "Wait, you mean she's been hooking up with Ben? Damn, and I thought she was different from those other girls. Did you talk to her?" "No. Immediately I saw them kissing I couldn't stand it so I left" Jake answered with his head still on the desk. "So what are you gonna do? " "I don't know, just wait maybe. I'll wait and see if she shows up to tell me about it or if she's just gonna act like she's not been cheating on me for weeks now". " Tough love bro" Ryan said patting him on his shoulder, "but we should get ready, the teacher's about to get here".

After school was over, everyone went home. Jake and Ryan went the same way for a while before splitting up and heading to their houses. When Jake reached the front door of his house, he heard crashing noises coming from inside the house and rushed in. As he got in he saw his mom's favourite lamp broken on the floor along with other ceramic vases, he also saw a trail of blood leading up the stairs and called out " Mom!! " He ran up the stairs, barged into her room and saw her on the floor lying in a pool of blood with an extremely pale face and the window through which the culprit had escaped from, open.
Jake was always a good and well-behaved son who knew how his mother struggled to give him a good life, although she wasn't the richest in the world she still made sure they both ate three square meals a day. Seeing her on the floor in a pool of blood was enough to make his heart clench, it was even more painful than seeing his girlfriend kissing Ben. He rushed to her side, raised her head and put it on his legs. "Mom?" She opened her eyes and saw his eyes filled with tears staring down at her, "Jake? " she asked. "Yeah mom, it's me. What happened?" "Listen...ca-carefully, I-I need to tell you something ve-very im...portant. Go to your fa...ther's house and stay with him, you'll be safer there. Th-The truth is you...'re more s-special than you realize, with t-time you'll understand what I'm saying but until your eighteenth birthday, you must st-stay with your father".Her eyes rolled to the back of her head as her eyelids came down over them which indicated that she was dead. Jake cried and yelled out in pain. His mother, who was the most important thing in his life had just died and he didn't know who killed her. What he saw was a stab wound to her heart which was still bleeding and a note with his father's address written on it.
