After the death of his mother, Jake Cayden didn't waste any time in holding her burial ceremony, he didn't want to mourn her for too long because it was too painful for him.
At least he had some of his friends with him at the burial along with his best friend Ryan "Sorry about your mom bro", "Thanks. I just don't know who would kill her and why. She was always so nice to everyone. If I ever find who did this, I'm gonna kill him. Or her". Ryan stared at him for a while before saying "Calm down dude. You can't go around claiming to kill someone when you don't have the slightest clue of who to kill". " Yeah man he's right" said Adam, one of his friends present at the burial. Adam was tall, lean and was more handsome than Jake but not more than Ben, and his shoulder length hair was almost as black as Jake's.
"I know. I'm just so freaking angry."
...
The funeral ended peacefully and everyone went to their various houses. Jake, now alone in his house, was looking at the address his mother gave him. Jake and his father weren't exactly close but they still spoke to each other at least twice a year, he knew that his father had a son with another woman but never spoke with him. The address stated that his father lived almost on the other half of the planet with his half-brother but no stepmother because she died three years ago when his half brother was still thirteen years of age.
A week after his mom's death, he decided to head to his father's house. "That man will never be my father." Jake told Ryan over the phone, the day before he would go to his father's house. "Bro relax." "How can you tell me to relax, the man didn't even show up for my mom's funeral. No calls, no texts, nothing. It's like he doesn't even care." "Maybe he got caught up doing something, who knows. He might still give you a call." "Yeah whatever" said Jake in a clearly angry tone. "Are you gonna tell Gwen everything that's happened? " "No way dude. She can go to hell for all I care. That cheating bitch."
"Just stay in touch bro. We're gonna miss you here." "Yeah man, I'll miss you guys too. Bye, I gotta talk to the guys. Later."
Jake was getting ready to hit the sack after talking to his remaining friends when a call from an unknown number rang on his cell phone. He stretched his hand out and grabbed his cell phone from the nightstand.
"Hello?" "Hi Jake. It's your dad. Wait, hold on. Before you drop the phone, let me explain. I know you're mad I didn't call about your mom's funeral after you told me about it and I'm sorry. I couldn't call because after I told you I'd call back, Sky came back with a fractured wrist and I had to take him to the hospital. After that, I had a couple of problems at work, my boss found out one of my colleagues was stealing from him and asked me to find out who. I'm really sorry I couldn't call, can you forgive me?"
"I guess I'm not supposed to be mad, so yeah I forgive you." "Thanks. So when are you coming?" "I'm leaving tomorrow." "Ok. Don't let me keep you up, good night." "Night."
