[Gold pouch]
[An ancient treasure that once belonged to the Great Golden King. when an object is introduced, it turns into gold according to its importance]
Kalen didn't know what to say, if what he said was true, this pouch would make him practically rich... he just had to test it to see if it was true.
Just like the bandage, Kalen reached into the scroll and pulled out a white pouch with gold fabrics. The pouch was quite small, about the size of his fist, which worried Kalen as there were few things that could fit into it.
But he had to test it anyway, so he picked a nearby flower and stuffed it into the pouch. To close it, he had a golden ribbon which he pulled on, then he send aura into the pouch.
Kalen grunted as he felt a good part of his aura being sucked into the small pouch.
But after a few seconds he felt that the pouch was not taking any more aura, so the process should be finished. Kalen opened the pouch with two fingers and saw something shiny inside.
He was visibly excited, but when he took out the gold, his expression changed radically.
'Really?'
It was only a tiny nugget of gold, but even though he hadn't expected more, the aura consumption required to turn the flower into gold was too much for the result.
Kalen took the nugget between two fingers and looked at it closely, closing one eye.
'…Not worth it'
Though he was disappointed, it was also true that a simple test would not be enough to know if it was a good relic or not. But for now, he had nothing to turn into gold and not enough Aura to try.
So, Kalen moved on to the third and final reward.
[Summoning Paper]
[A paper specially made for summoning spirits. Make your blood the payment for the summoning and make a contract]
Short and concise. A description that explained the purpose and function of the summoning paper very well.
This was probably the reward that excited Kalen the most, simply because it worked perfectly with his ability.
Until now, he hadn't had the chance to research the contracts required by his ability, but now he had a unique opportunity.
One thing that bothered Kalen was that it was such a coincidence.
His ability was related to contracts, and one of his rewards allowed him to summon a spirit to fulfil such a contract.
It was just too strange.
But Kalen didn't think too much about it, these were things that were beyond his understanding, and it wasn't worth the headache of trying to understand something that was impossible to understand at the moment.
Kalen felt that perhaps he should study and research more before using the summoning paper, but on the other hand he was too eager to know how it worked, so he pulled out the paper and reached into the scroll to look at it.
If there was a word to describe the paper, it would be complicated.
Complicated patterns of hundreds of lines created a large symbol that took up the entire paper, which was not too large, like an A4 sheet.
Kalen placed it on the floor and paused for a moment to think.
'So, I'm supposed to give my blood? I don't want to ruin it'
Kalen bit the big finger of his right hand where some blood came out and suddenly the paper started to glow bright red.
It was a sign that it was working, but what Kalen hadn't expected was that the small amount of blood that had come out of his finger suddenly began to float to the paper, merging with the symbol and causing the black lines to turn red.
But that was not all.
With the large amount of lines, blood began to flow from the small wound in large quantities, as if being forced out of his body.
Large amounts of blood were being sucked out of his body, making him feel lethargic and tired... even more than he already was.
But luckily for him, the bleeding stopped soon after and all the lines turned red. Making the pattern on the paper a blood red color.
Then the glow increased, forcing Kalen to squint his eyes.
He watched as the paper began to burn and slowly something materialized in the air.
When the paper was completely burnt, Kalen saw a small creature hovering in front of him.
'What is that?'
The small creature was something Kalen had never seen before, it was crystal blue and almost transparent. It had two small fins and a small, dog-like head.
It had an equally small tail and no legs.
If Kalen had to define it, it would be like a dolphin with a dog's head... something rather strange.
'Is this a spirit?'
Kalen watched curiously as the spirit stared at him in silence as it hovered in the air.
'What should I do now?'
That was as far as the explanation of the summoning paper went, but the part about the contract was still a mystery to him.
With no other options, Kalen carefully reached out his finger to touch the little spirit's forehead.
When Kalen touched it, he felt a strange sensation, and without knowing how, he suddenly felt a connection to the being in front of him.
He quickly removed his finger from the spirit's forehead and blinked several times.
'What happened?'
As soon as he felt that strange connection, he felt something inside of him fill up, as if the sudden connection with the spirit had occupied a space that had been empty before.
But he also felt that apart from the space the spirit had occupied, there was more free space... but it was limited.
Kalen closed his eyes, trying to figure out what he was feeling inside, as the spirit began to move around, as if studying him.
A few minutes later, Kalen came up with a somewhat hasty explanation that made a lot of sense.
'I don't know what this strange room is... but if I compare it somehow to a glass of water, then this connection to the spirit fills a part of the same glass'
Kalen looked at the spirit floating around him.
'Then the number of contracts I can make is limited...'
Kalen felt as if the spirit had filled almost 10% of the glass of water, leaving 90% available.
But the spirit looked so small that it was hard to believe that it was a powerful being like many others he had seen. It was so small that it even looked like a newborn spirit... it wasn't as if Kalen could tell the age of a spirit.
Would the glass of water get fuller if he made a deal with a more powerful spirit?
Kalen didn't know, but he would have to study it later.
Just speculating would get him nowhere. So later he would ask Jerome to let him into the library of the mansion that Adaire had mentioned to him on one of his sightseeing days.
For now, the only thing left to do was to test his skills with his new hire.
Kalen looked at his information screen but saw nothing different. He had waited for something to change when he had signed the contract with the spirit.
Besides, he wasn't sure how he had made the contract, only that he had felt a connection to the spirit since he had touched its forehead. This he attributed to the fact that he had successfully made the treaty.
It was all very strange, but somehow it was done.
Kalen looked at the spirit and it felt his gaze, so it stopped and looked back at him.
'Does it have a name, should I give it a one?'
Kalen wasn't really sure about spirit, only what Jerome had told him about the resident spirit... but this shouldn't be one of them.
'Were there other types of spirit? If so, what were they?'
Kalen was beginning to get a headache, so he turned his attention back to using his ability.
'I'm supposed to be able to use the energy of the beings I have a contract with... What kind of energy does a spirit use? Mana, aura too?'
Kalen was confused, as much as he concentrated on testing his ability, there were still many things he didn't know.
'...Anyway, let's do it'
Kalen concentrated on the spirit for a few seconds until he gave up and sighed.
'How do I use a skill?'
He remembered how Alina Becker had a skill that she had used to catch the piranhas on the second day of the Urasis test.
He never asked her how she used it, but she made it look so easy that Kalen guessed it was almost instinctive.
There was also Talika, who could hear the thoughts of beings not hostile to her.
But Kalen felt nothing when he tried to use the mind power.
'Alright... let's try it again'
Kalen closed his eyes again and for another minute he felt nothing special, but suddenly he felt something that didn't come from his own body, it was like the feeling of his core, but from outside.
Kalen opened his eyes again, remembered the location of the sensation and realized that it was coming from the spirit.
'Was it...?
Kalen closed his eyes again and concentrated on the spirit in front of him and its energy.
First, he tried to manipulate it, and as he did, he felt the energy float from the spirit to him. The spirit's energy entered his body through his chest and just like his aura, it began to move erratically within him.
It was difficult for Kalen to control and when he tried to stabilize it, he suddenly lost control and the energy leaked out of his body back into the spirit.
Kalen sighed at his failure, but he had also managed to feel the spirit energy in his body.
It was different from the aura, as this energy felt colder, but softer instead of rougher.
Although he had no idea what the other energies felt like, he had a slight thought.
'Is it mana?'
