Chapter 10 - I’m not letting you go

"Sorry for calling you out so late."

"Well, it's not like was busy or anything…"

Remi wiped my wound clean with some alcohol, closed with medical glue and then bandaged it up. I had only called her a few minutes ago, but she had managed to understand the situation quickly and rode here on her bicycle with a medical kit. It looked like she hadn't even had the time to put on shoes, and arrived in her pyjamas and slippers.

"Don't worry about this cut, okay? I got worse when I was little and broke some cups on the way down the stairs… I'm more concerned about what's up with her."

Remi pointed at Kimiko who is now curled up on the floor.

"Did she cut you?"

"No, it's more like she tried to cut herself."

"Ki-chan did?"

I nodded. Remi ran over to Kimiko and lifted her up.

"What the hell were you thinking?! Are you on drugs or something?"

"Leave me alone. You wouldn't understand."

Kimiko pushed her away.

"What do you mean I wouldn't understand?! Are we friends?"

"I… I'm sorry. I'm going home."

Kimiko tried to walk away, but Remi grabbed her.

"Are you actually insane?! I'm not letting you go after hearing that."

"Remi… I don't want to hurt you as well."

"What? Are you going to cut me too? You can go right ahead and do it, because I'm not letting you go."

It is been an hour since Remi invited us to her house and arranged a sleep over. Since it's a Friday, my parents are fine with it. The other two had already taken a bath and now it is my turn. Remi had tied a plastic bag over my bandaged hand to stop it from getting wet.

I lay back in the bath, with my cut hand hanging out, and tried to relax. It would be nice is we are able to talk this out today, but, if Kimiko had really killed someone like she said, then it probably wouldn't be that easy.

The police haven't come looking for her or anything, so it's still likely that Kimiko hadn't really killed anyone and just had… I don't know, severe hormone imbalance or something? That would explain the french kiss at least.

When I had finished the bath, we ate dinner cooked made by Remi's dad who is a full time house husband. Remi's mother is a doctor and worked at a hospital in the City Centre. Remi thought that it would be a good idea to have her mother take a look at Kimiko. Unfortunately, though, Remi's mother wouldn't be home until late at night.

"Wait, so you guys kissed that time outside the toilets! I kind of have some mixed feelings~ Hey, Ki-chan want to kiss me too?"

Kimiko didn't reply and just sat on the carpet hugging her legs and rocking gently. She probably had her reasons for all her strange behaviour. What those reasons are I have no idea and Kimiko refused to say anything. As I was about to give up go to sleep, Remi said something else.

"Wait, Mimi, your hand was cut in two places, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No it's just that, I was wondering what kind of knife it is. You know since a kitchen knife is blunt on one side."

"It's not a kitchen knife…"

Kimiko looked over at us.

"It belonged to the person I killed."

…There is nobody that I could think of that carried around a knife like that. Of course, it's unlikely that they wouldn't show off something like that. But how did Kimiko take it off the person that she killed? Why did she keep it? Especially since she looked like she felt guilty about what she did… Well, at least she regretted it.

I still hope that Kimiko hadn't really killed anyone, but just had some kind of misunderstanding. Or maybe she just feels responsible for someone's death, like what happens in some novels. Although that isn't good either, it's something that we could deal with and get her help for.

There is no mistaking, however, that that knife exists, I had a cut on my hand and to show it. But Remi didn't seem very concerned about what Kimiko said. She just laughed.

"Next you're going to tell us you used that knife to kill him. Stop trying to scare us! Are you possessed or something?"

But Remi hadn't really seen Kimiko's unusual behaviour first hand. If she had, I'm sure that she wouldn't have been able to dismiss the possibility of Kimiko killing someone so easily; I thought back to that feeling I had in the café.

"Ki-chan, keep your creepy nonsense to yourself, or you're sleeping on the floor!"

After saying that, Remi climbed onto the bed and lied down next to me, but Kimiko stayed where she was.

"I don't mind sleeping, on the floor."

Remi threw a spare pillow at Kimiko.

"Suit yourself."
