Chapter 6 - NEWSFLASH 1

It was the weekend. Finally, a time she could allow some air into her lungs. Sophie was not going to work, she was more than decisive about not working that weekend. Despite the tons of work laid down for her.

She was big on yoga. And on a fine Saturday morning like these, she'd have her mat spread out in the comfort of her well spacious sitting room.

Sophie's house was a lousy definition of a single female cottage.

With her walls smeared with pink and white paintings, exuding feminity. A few pictures of her hung around the wall and then there was one of both her parents, and a single one of she and her father, when she was much younger.

Her apartment was well furnished to an admirable taste, although, most of her furnitures weren't expensive they were moderate and classy.

Sitting on her knees. Sophie was covered in a black tracksuit and white socks, while leaving her hair bound in a ponytail style.

Her limbs were stretched out across the mat and her hands hung high above her head in a funny way. Her ears were covered with headphones and her eyes were closed as she brought both hands together and dropped it slowly, down to her face like one would do when saying a prayer.

Dramatically, she began to inhale and exhale successively.

But in the process, she was interrupted by the sudden alarming sound of the doorbell which disrupted everything and pulled her attention.

She frowned.

It was not until the third ring she lazily pulled herself up and sauntered towards the door unhurriedly.

"I swear to God Joe, if you…" the rest of her words got stuck in her mouth the moment she saw the lean figure standing in front of her doorstep.

Sophie mopped ahead of her to see the ever red sports car well parked. That was her favorite car, where she hardly go anywhere without.

She had blonde shiny hair, which seemed newly curled and styled. She was on a slightly shredded off shoulder black top and a well shaped design green skirt which had a vertical line that cuts across it running from bottom to top. It exposed the skin on her lap down to her tigh. Sophie knew Josette to always keep it sexy, so she wasn't amazed nor impressed.

What the hell was she doing here?

The woman before her looked a lot younger than the last time she had seen her.

Her Jade green eyes were flickering with a new kind of interest, and her pink lips were twitched. Sophie knew that look so well.

"Hi Mom," Sophie spoke first in a little voice as she bit her lower lip. She wasn't going to question how her mom found her place. So she just stepped inside a little giving her mom access to come in.

Her mother waltzed in with eyes moving around the whole place.

There was this look in her eyes. Sophie tried not to read what must be going through her mind.

This was the first time she was visiting her new place.

After much assessing, her Mom threw her a full blown smile that made her head spin.

It was a huge smile but Sophie haven't felt anything that was so unreal as that smile.

"How is my favorite child doing?"

Favorite child? Sophie echoed in her mind.

This wasn't going to be good. She felt a set up coming.

"I'm doing very great, mom," she replied with a half smile which her mom returned partially as she walked her way down to one of the chairs.

Her eyes lingered on the piece of mat that was laid on the floor. And with that observation, Sophie quickly began to pack it up.

"Impressed to know that you're still trying to keep fit," her mom cracked a sardonic smile as she remarked.

"Yeah, I bet you are. But it absolutely has nothing to do with you, mom. I love yoga," she stated as she put away the slightly crumpled up mat.

Her mom chuckled at her statement as she passed her a cursory glance.

"Do you want me to get you anything?" Sophie asked half heartedly.

Josette remainined silent for a while before uttering.

"You don't have to hold a grudge against your own mother, you know. Especially, when you know she only wants nothing but what's best for you," Sophie scoffed softly as she bit her lips.

Josette wants only what's best for Josette and then she tries to project what she knows you don't want on you. Sophie wanted to say that aloud so bad, but on second thoughts, she said something else.

"Why are you here, mom?" Josette's brows furrowed on her forehead.

"Why I'm here?" Her mother sucked in a breath from her mouth.

"Well, for starters. I'm here because I stopped hearing from my immature twenty two year old daughter. Who believes she knows better than her mother and left home for almost a year and a half. All in a flimsy attempt to throw a fit and put up an unnecessary show off," the only sound that could escape Sophie's lips was another scoff. She was getting riled up but she was not ready to give her mother that satisfaction.

"What do you want, mom? I really do not have the energy for this right now. And I know you wouldn't be here if you don't want something. So spill…what is it?" Her mother studied her for a while with a dull expression without saying anything and then suddenly her face lighten up.

"It's not what I want from you, child. You lucky b*tch," Sophie's expression transitioned into that of confusion laced with curiosity as she folded her arms while she watched her mom brought out a slightly rumpled newspaper from her designers purse.

She slowly flipped the papers out to Sophie's face.

Sophie took the paper with a frown.

"What is this?" Sophie asked warily.

Her mother started with smacking her lips like she wanted to divulge a big secret.

"I don't know if you remember because you were very little at the time. But your father used to work with a very powerful man. You're now in the business world so you should have heard about The great Harrison eagles group of companies. If you look at that paper closely you'd see the company is making the headlines. They are literally dominating across the whole country and even beyond," she paused to scrutinize her daughter's expression to know if she was following up.

"Uhh, Ok. What does this have to do with me?" Knowing her mother very well, Sophie wanted her to cut to the chase.

Her mother inhaled sharply.

"I think the chairman, Audrey Harrison is ill. He is the founder of the company and was your father's friend. There was an agreement a long time ago. It is an agreement concerning you and his son," Sophie threw her mom a quizzical look.
