It had been a while, since she last saw the amount of excitement that graced upon Josette's face.
Whenever she gets excited like this it was sadly never in her favor. Sophie braced herself for the bombshell.
"Sophie, this is going to change our lives forever. Change your life," her mother announced excitedly.
"Imagine being the wife of a freaking multi billionaire…"
"Excuse me. What?" Sophie cut her mother off almost immediately, a certain confusion playing in the stem of her emerald eyes.
"You heard me, Sophie. Audrey wants you as his son's wife," Sophie went completely numb. A myriad of thoughts ran through her mind as she tried to mentally analyse whatever it was her mother was trying to imply.
Her mind was forced to go back to three months ago, when she was still searching for a space to set up her kitchen.
Getting the space there at Redmond had came easy without her having to pay as much as she'd thought she'll pay.
The gracious female agent made mention of provisions being made for her that she didn't have to pay in full. The premium amount for the rentage. The kitchen space was huge of course and Sophie knew she was at a big advantage there and she was baffled.
She had been suspecting her father's hand in it, until, she later figured it was the doing of a certain Audrey. Apparently, he owned the land and Sophie couldn't understand what the charity was for, so she opted to meet him.
She wanted to express her gratitude towards the man, as well as know the true reason behind his generosity. So she sought out where to meet him. It wasn't easy, as she knew nothing about the strange man and the female agent tried to talk her out of it but she was determined. She was later directed to a hospital, as per the man's others on her whim to see him.
She visited him with flowers and was sorry to see him in that state. He didn't speak much with her but his eyes lingered on her the whole time which made her wonder if he knew her, by chance.
Little did she know that he was Audrey Harrison which she only found out about a second ago. And also, the hospital she went to visit him at, belonged to him. Little did she know that he was a friend of her father's.
Most importantly, little did she know that all this was a little set up to get her to marry his son.
A part of her was a bit upset.
Or was her mother just making this up and teasing her? Was she trying to toil with her emotions? No her mother didn't look like she was joking around.
"Wow, this is super rich," she started, smiling angrily at her mother.
"You didn't hear from your child, for how long? Good thing, you're the one who's counting. And you obviously do not give a sh*t. I started a life. A life free from your influence. And hell, has it been peaceful? More than your supermodel life could ever be," she snapped at her mother, eyes of daggers as she took it out on her.
"You knew I was with Aunt all these while, before I moved in here. But did you ever come to check on me? No. Did you call or text? Ok, I remember you did once. After hearing about my plans to finally open my soup shop…and what'd you say? That I would never make it as a common chef. Well, shame on you. I do not know what I did to deserve a mother like you but life without you, has been a fulfilled one. And I've been so happy," she paused as her breath turned raspy.
"I'm not gonna let you ruin that. I'm not gonna let you dictate my life ever again. I might be your daughter but I'm glad I'm not as thirsty as you are. Go marry that billionaire, yourself," her cheeks immediately burned as it turned red, feeling the finger nail scratch at the tip of her ear.
Looking into her mother's remorseless eyes while she redrew her palm that has fastened unto her cheek, she gasped. Her teeth clenched as she bite back the tears that almost stung her eyes.
"You ungrateful brat," Josette lashed out with a grimace.
"You think you've earned the right to speak to me in such manner?" Her mother scoffed as she twisted her lips in distaste.
"Oh, you think you can disrespect me now. Because of the little change you get from that thing you call a business, huh?" Sophie sniffed, fixing her hard gaze on her mother.
"Well, let me make this exceedingly clear to you, little missy. Everything you think you have now or you've achieved was because of me, because I let it happen. Oh, I see the little liberty have gotten into your head. I took care of you single handedly, after your father took the big leap. I fed you, clothed you and tended to your every need. But yet, you never skip any chance you get to rebel against me!"
"You don't know what you did to deserve a mother like me?" Josette laughed.
"You think I asked for a daughter like you? I am responsible for your very existence. If not for me, you'd not as much as have amounted to anything in this life!" Sophie felt like she's had enough. Her ears rang but she'd managed to push back the tears that stung her eyes. Her eyes were peering deeply into her mother's as she pressed her lips.
"Go home, MOTHER," Were the soft words that left her lips before she swiftly grabbed her phone and keys and bolted out of the house, not giving room for her mother to say any more word as she left her mother all by herself, in her home.
The enraged girl ran across the street with vague awareness of where she was heading to. She was numb to reality as she shut her senses and just kept padding her feet on the steep road allowing them to lead her to where she'd be very far from her mother.
The next thing that reverberated through her eardrums was a strong horn sound that came along with a lousy screech sound.
Her arms instinctively sprang up to cover her eardrums and her eyes automatically shut themselves tightly.
It was not until she could hear nothing but silence she lifted her arms from her ears and opened the shutters of her eyes.
She was almost startled by what was in front of her…apparently, it wasn't a what but a who.
