Chapter 4
"Ah, six months in this hellish job, and I can finally play the game I've been yearning for—the game that made me endure all this torment. Ahh, let's stop dwelling on work and head home," I muttered as I left my workplace.
After a while, I walked out of my office, ready to escape from the day's burdens, when the imposing figure of the big guy appeared once again.
"Oy, have you finished everything you needed to do, or are you still bound by the contract?" he inquired.
"Stop right there. I've completed everything for today; I have nothing left to do, so I'm leaving," I responded with an annoyed expression.
"Is that so? Then you may go," the big guy said, thankfully retreating back inside.
During these past six months, a lot of things have transpired. We relocated to an apartment in the city since I couldn't bear staying any longer in that wretched house without internet access to use the dive device.
As I entered the apartment, a modest space with two bedrooms and one bathroom, I found it far more comfortable than our previous dwelling.
"You're back early today," Sara greeted me as she appeared before me.
"I finished early because my order is due to arrive now. Has it come?" I asked with excitement in my voice.
"You seem thrilled. Yes, it arrived an hour ago, so I placed it in your room," Sara replied.
"Oh, then I'll go check it out," I exclaimed, rushing towards my room.
Upon entering, I laid my eyes on it—the long-awaited DMMO-RPG YGGDRASIL. Finally, I could indulge in the game I had been longing to play. I opened the box, connected the wires to my head, and commenced the game.
Just before the game initiated, Sara entered my room. "You actually did it," she said something, but her words were lost amidst the game's commencement.
"I hope she doesn't accidentally disconnect the wires from outside," I thought, filled with trepidation.
Lost in my thoughts, a screen materialized before me, urging me to begin the game. I clicked on it, and suddenly, I found myself standing in the midst of a grand hall teeming with players.
"Where am I?" I pondered aloud. Numerous introductions and guild information popped up before me, but I skipped through them. Who had the patience to read all that information anyway? Then, three choices materialized.
\[Choose your race:\]
-\[Humanoid\]: A race bearing a human-like appearance.
-\[Demi-human\]: A variation of the human race with some animal features.
-\[Heteromorphic\]: Known as inhuman or monstrous.
I glanced at the options and swiftly made my decision. Of course, I would opt for the Heteromorphic race, as it appeared to be the least favored by other players. I clicked on the Heteromorphic option several times, but then another choice appeared before me.
\-Choose your gender:
-\[Male\]
-\[Female\]
Due to my multiple clicks on the Heteromorphic option, I inadvertently selected the female gender.
"Hey, what happened? Why can't I go back and choose again? What happened to the player freedom they boasted about? I can't even change my gender if I mistakenly selected the wrong one. Cheh..." I grumbled for a few minutes before shifting my attention to the new set of options.
Now I had to select my race class. I decided to opt for a race that did not possess gender specialization.
Scanning through the menu brimming with options, one particular race caught my eye.
-\[Skeleton Mage\]: A type
