Chapter 54 - Strength

--- Bete's POV ---

I hate this shit.

Why the hell do I have to be the one babysitting this weak-ass piece of crap and escorting her to safety? My job should've been down there...

When I first saw that guy with Ais, I got so damn jealous and pissed off. I wanted nothing more than to teach that newbie a lesson and show him he ain't worth shit in her eyes.

But my beliefs got shattered. That bastard is the strongest adventurer I've ever seen. It's like trying to go toe-to-toe with a brick wall.

I wished for another chance to square off against him properly, but no one even gave a damn about me. And if I dared to step toward him when he was with Ais, the look he shot me almost made my balls shrivel up.

But you know what? I couldn't say shit, even if he treated me like garbage. 'Cause he's the strongest, and in this fucked-up world, the strong do whatever the hell they want.

When the others asked Ren for a spar, I jumped in too, hoping for at least a taste of a fight.

But even that turned into a total humiliation. The guy held himself back, limiting himself to a high-level 3. It was like a slap in the face, knowing I couldn't even touch him.

We all knew he had some freaky illusion powers, and his fighting style was just plain weird. But even with those limitations, he still wiped the floor with us.

What have I been putting up with all this time? Why the hell did I have to lose so much when there was a strong man like him who can handle everything?

...I swear, sometimes I just want to punch myself.

But even as they ordered me to be this weakling's babysitter, I couldn't disobey the Captain's orders.

Even if I could, just the sight of that smug bastard smiling at me was enough to keep my mouth shut.

My thoughts got interrupted as a horde of monsters finally decided to show up. About damn time.

I was itching to let off some steam, and there's no better way to do it than by kicking the living shit out of these worthless fake immortals...

--- Ouranos' POV ---

My thoughts were in disarray, unable to grasp the unfolding events.

It was undeniably the machinations of a God, for no one else possessed the audacity to tamper with my divinity so brazenly.

Yet, no God within my knowledge could be held responsible for such an aberration.

Furthermore, the foreign divinity that encroached upon mine felt...corrupted.

Though I struggled to define its nature precisely, it exuded an unmistakable impurity. If I were to draw a comparison, it was akin to a Fallen God, a notion deemed impossible, merely a legend rumored by some Gods in the Heavens.

Fels and I tirelessly searched for clues to unravel this enigma, but we were left with more questions than answers. We were at a loss, for now.

If only we could pinpoint the location of this God, we might have a chance to put an end to their machinations.

"Master, I have scoured up to the 37th floor. Regrettably, my capabilities fall short of breaching its defenses." Fels reported, his voice tinged with frustration. "I have yet to find any trace of the perpetrator, but I did analyze one monster before disposing of it forcefully–Our suspicions were confirmed. The one responsible seeks to devour souls..."

The gravity of those words sent tremors coursing through my being. There was no denying it. The puppeteer behind this chaos was undoubtedly a Fallen God.

Before I could respond, the arrival of the Loki Familia members within the Dungeon caught my attention. Accompanying them was an unexpected presence.

A Demigod, perhaps?

Were such entities still present within this World?

Regardless, it presented an opportunity. Someone of such immense power might be able to bring a temporary resolution to this dire situation.

"...The Loki Familia has descended into the Dungeon. Collaborate with them for now. I will focus on halting the influx of monsters from escaping," I instructed, severing our connection, and redirecting my attention toward the intricate network that connected the Dungeon to the Outside World.

Surely, there must exist a means to halt this encroachment. For a millennium, my divinity has safeguarded the Dungeon, making its complete eradication impossible.

Soon, I would devise a way to impede this.

However, that alone would prove insufficient. We needed to rectify this situation comprehensively, lest Orario succumbs to an inexorable decline.

If the monsters remained in their distorted state, the Dungeon would become a treacherous domain for newcomers. The already formidable challenges it posed would be amplified, making it nearly impossible for anyone without overwhelming power to venture within safely. Such a development would jeopardize the very essence of Orario, undermining the allure and profits that kept adventurers flocking to its depths.

Furthermore, if these aberrant creatures were to proliferate beyond the lower floors, it would herald the arrival of far more formidable adversaries. Beasts that dwelled on the 40th, 50th, or even more perilous levels could suddenly roam the earlier strata, requiring elite teams of adventurers to exterminate them.

Hence, a solution was imperative. I fervently hoped that the Loki Familia possessed the prowess to confront this escalating crisis.

Author's Note:

We'll get back to our main group's POV next chap, as always I couldn't evade such POV change, reasons clear to anyone reading, lol

I hope you realize a little of the dog's feelings through that. Although he's a minor char, he'll still have some space for himself.
