· — it's in the eyes.
it's always the eyes.
Yume heard the recess bell ring before he dozed off in the history period. It has been hell for him, as he didn't sleep the last night due to excitement for his first class in his new school. He was excited, but his feelings died in the very first period. He blames those stupid boys who are his classmates. What a pain in the neck for him!
He saw how Kiyoshi and Ryobe blended in with the other students in the class. The girls were crushing on them because of how handsome and approachable they were, but they were maintaining their distance. Yume felt envious of his own best friends.
I mean, how could he not? His friends are everything girls and boys fall for, unlike Yume, who is nothing like that. He is introverted, anti-social, and unapproachable.
He wishes to simply drown himself in his soft vanilla-scented blankets and bedsheets in his bedroom and never come out, but life sucks. Yume doesn't think much about his life much or whether it even matters or not. He believes that his existence is a mistake. He should've died instead of his parents that day. Tch...
It was all in his head. All his feelings and emotions get bottled up and cause these intrusive thoughts. He shook the thought off when he heard a voice calling his name from the other end of the spacious classroom.
"You didn't answer me! Are you a girl or no, Yume-Chan~?" Yume flinched at the sudden loud voice. He didn't like loud noises; they gave him headaches, just like now.
"You're ignoring me. I just want to know if you're a girl or not so that I can hit on your pretty ass, Yume-Chan." The boy said, trying his best to sound seductive, this time louder. His friends laughed with him. Yume slowly covered his ears.
"You don't have the right to call him Yume-Chan, you little piece of shit." A deep voice, understandably angry yet calm, which belonged to Ryobe, called out.
"You dare to swear at me?! Want me to teach you a lesson, jerk?" That boy retorted, his voice getting louder simultaneously. Yume squinted his eyes shut and clutched his ears firmly. The loud noise was making him sick.
"Yume? Are you okay?" Kiyoshi asked, concerned for the boy.
"K-Kiyo... It's too loud." Yume muttered under his heavy breaths.
"Will you guys shut up? You're troubling Yume!" Kiyoshi finally yelled, and Yume lost it. He pushed Kiyo out of the way before running out of the class down the hallways, not knowing where his feet were taking him.
He was out of breath when he got tired of all the running. He didn't know where he was, but it was very calming and quiet. He looked up and saw the signboard saying the library was ahead. He smiled a little, as he walked up to the library doors.
He pushed open the blurred glass door, feeling the sudden cold of the air conditioner. It was quiet, as a library should be. All Yume could hear was his footsteps. The school library was surprisingly quite spacious. He looked around to see labels hanging from the ceiling, indicating the respective shelves of different subjects' books.
He started looking for literature. He prayed to find some romantic fiction book to read and pass his recess time, and his prayers happened to be answered.
He found one, though it was not quite a romantic book. He smiled at the cover. Then, after opening a random page, he smelled the book. It smelled so lovely to him, as if he was smelling some sweet aromatic flower. He didn't think he would find a copy of what he was reading back at home.
He walked up to the closest seat and sat down, but something caught his eye. He could see from his peripheral vision that a figure in a black jacket sat in the chair by the window. He whipped his head and saw this boy with jet black hair, his eyes buried in the book, although his eyes were covered with his long, somewhat disheveled hair. His long pale fingers held the book ever-so-softly.
Yume's heart skipped a bit when he realized how beautiful the boy's hands were. He wondered what it would look like around his thro— LET uS nOt go there, yeah? Yeah... (frick)
He drooled internally as his eyes ogled the boy's silhouette. He seemed tall, but Yume couldn't predict whether he was actually tall or not, as he was sitting even though he had visibly long legs. He has very pale skin. Yume's dreamy hazel eyes went to the boy's lips. They were pink, plush, and kissable. His nose was small and cute. His cheeks were smooth and seemed pillow-like soft.
The feminine urge to graze them a little was troubling Yume.
A nuclear bomb dropped in his chest, making it almost stop and causing his little body to flinch when the boy looked up at him. He looked away and facepalmed, wanting to just jump in a pit and die in it. He slapped and screamed internally. He cursed himself endlessly.
'What the hell is going on?!?!' Yume thought incoherent stuff. He didn't even notice when the boy sat beside him so quietly. Yume flinched when he felt a big cold hand coming into contact with his shoulder.
"OH MY–GOD! When did you come here?!" Yume screamed. The librarian hushed him, flustering him in the process.
"While you were cursing yourself internally." The boy chuckled, and that, my readers, was Yume's first time hearing such a cloying and beautiful voice. His heart went brrr at the vibrations of the boy's voice.
"I— shit... I'm sorry for staring at you like a creep. I didn't mean to." Yume apologised, looking down while fiddling with his fingers.
"I didn't mind at all. By the way, I'm Kira, Akihiko Kira." He sets out his hand for a handshake, politely, while Yume, also being polite, accepts it, not failing to notice how small his hands were comparing to Kira's. He blushed.
"Takahashi Yume. Nice to meet you and I apologise again." Yume said she did not make eye contact at all, simply being too scared and flustered to do it.
"If you're apologising, I don't accept it." This made Yume whip his head and look up at the boy who introduced himself as Kira. That's when Yume saw that Kira's sleepy siren eyes were different for a Japanese person. Too different for a normal person, let alone a Japanese.
Kira's left eye was emerald green, while the right one was ocean blue. Yume can literally drown in them forever.
"But why?" Yume asked anxiously in despair, pushing the eye matter aside. His apology mattered more than that. He disappointed a person he had just met.
"I will accept your apology if you compensate for it." Kira said with a smirk and intense eye contact. It made chills run down his spine and dug a pit called love in his chest. He was about to slip and fall in it.
"What do I do to compensate for this?" Yume asked calmly. His heart was racing in his ribcage, on the verge to jump out of his throat at this point.
"Be my friend." Kira said, sitting back on his chair, a playful smirk dancing on his lips while slender arms crossed over his toned chest.
Yume fell. Well, not actually. He fell into the pit which Kira made in his chest.
"You scared me!" Yume exclaimed, with a hand on his chest as a gesture of relief. Kira chuckled heartily, and that little laugh was music to Yume's ears. It was better than his top favourite song. He smiled unconsciously as he saw Kira's subtle smile while they kept eye contact.
"You seem new. I don't think I saw you here before, have I? " Kira questioned. Yume nodded.
"That's right. I'm new. It's my first day here. Yume said softly.
"Well, welcome to Saitama High School. I hope we'll be good friends. " Kira said genuinely. Yume smiled brightly at the statement. Kira's eyes got wide behind his hair. Yume's smile was the best thing he ever saw.
"Thank you."
"Which class are you in?"
"I'm in 3-2."
"Oh wow, you're in your third year. My junior! I'm in 4-3." Yume chuckled. Kira felt butterflies in his stomach. A new feeling emerged in his chest as he heard the boy chuckle.
"You know, you have a pretty unusual set of eyes for a Japanese person." Kira comments, and Yume nods simply.
"My aunt says I have got them from my mum. My mum had a lighter shade than I have." Yume said as he opened his book to read. Yume's eyes were doing something to Kira. He couldn't understand it, but he was feeling it. It had an avant-garde feeling.
"Akihiko-San, your eyes are also quite unique. You don't seem to be wearing contact lenses, do you?" Yume asked cautiously, careful not to offend his new friend with his words.
"Oh, you mean my two coloured eyes? No no!" Kira laughed.
"I have had them since birth, so yes it's natural but also very unnatural for a person like me who is also Japanese. It's very rare in the general population too. My parents say that I have heterochromia, so that's why I have such unique eyes." Kira explained. He loved how fascinated Yume was just by his eyes. The younger's eyes sparkled in amazement.
"Wow! That's impressive, Akihiko-San!" Yume was intrigued by Kira and his features. He had this inner urge to get closer to him and get to know him more. Maybe even cross the boundaries. Kira's eyes went to the book Yume held.
"What are you reading?"
"Oh this? This is a book by Adam Silvera. In this story, two friends meet online and they find out that they are gonna die in the same day. So they try to live their lifetime in their last day together as much as they can. In a single day! Literally." Yume explained briefly while Kira patiently listened.
"This book is called 'They Both Die At The End,' and it's really emotional." Yume finished with a sigh as he looked up at the boy who had his head resting on his hand while leaning on the table with his elbow, listening and watching him intently.
"That seems interesting. I would love to read that." Kira said softly with a sweet smile. It made the butterflies in Yume's stomach go berserk.
"S-sure! You can take this one." The younger stammered.
"But you're reading it?" Kira was enjoying how easily the blondie would get flustered without much effort.
"I have a copy at home. It's okay."
"Okay, thanks!" Kira said before they heard the recess bell. It was time for them to return to their class.
"Oh boy, time to return to class." Kira shrugged.
"Aww! Already? I was enjoying my time with you!" Yume whined, which made Kira mess up his hair, making the boy giggle childishly.
"Haha! Maybe tomorrow, bub. I'll be right here waiting for you. Also, call me Kira." Kira said, caressing Yume's soft cheek with his cold hand, causing him to blush furiously. Also, mind the nickname~
"Okay, Kira-Kun..." Yume got up, smiling and made his way back to class, leaving Kira behind, who was wondering how it would be to be friends with that hazel-eyed boy.
