Raz's body didn't move at first; Shinsusa, who couldn't be bothered with Raz's indecisiveness, picked him up and carried him away from the noises with Reina following close behind.
Once Shinsusa thought they were a safe distance away, she put Raz down, "Look, unlike street fights and practice, this is a life-or-death situation. If you hesitate for even a second, you will die."
Raz wasn't oblivious to it; the day he set out on this journey he had tried to ready himself for situations like these, but, of course, he had no idea what actual battle is like and as such was stunned by the situation he was in.
Shinsusa kept watch from where they had heard the sounds. Raz attempted to mimic, though all he saw was darkness.
Eventually, Shinsusa whispered, "They have discovered our campsite. Prepare to fight."
Without missing a beat, Reina began casting a spell. This time, however, the spell was in a language that Raz didn't understand at all and thus couldn't make it out. Though, when the spell was cast, he felt as though he had just been given a rush of energy.
"Five are headed toward us; two to our right, three straight at us. We'll take the two out first, silently, and then do the same with the other three," Shinsusa announced.
And thus began their operation. Shinsusa went ahead whereas Reina pulled Raz close and cast a spell, "Oh Godess who watches over me, numb the sound of our feet, pad the bottom with wind."
Once Reina was finished, she and Raz followed Shinsusa. They stumbled through the dark, their footsteps not making any sound. Suddenly, Reina is pulled down. Raz gets ready to fight, only to see that it was Shinsusa's doing. She whispers something to Reina and then hands Raz a knife.
"Stay here," Shinsusa instructed Raz and set off.
Once she was some fifteen feet ahead, she crouched and waited. Then, two men wearing peasant clothes and carrying axes came walking towards Shinsusa. It was too dark for Raz to make out whether or not they had any blood on them, but he could see some darkening on their clothes and bodies. The passed Shinsusa without batting an eyelid, which allowed Shinsusa to stalk them. Once she was close enough, she stabbed one of the men in the back and slit the other's throat with a single slash within the matter of a few seconds. Shinsusa stabbed their bodies again for good measure, picked up their axes, and walked back towards Raz and Reina.
"Two down, three to go," she announced.
Having completed part one of Shinsusa's plan, they moved around behind the other group of bandits and crept up on them.
Once they were close enough, Shinsusa turned to Raz, "You must assist; I cannot defeat all three without causing a ruckus. I'm gonna take the left one and the center one, you stab the one on the right here." Shinsusa touched her jugular to show Raz where he must aim. Raz nodded in acknowledgement.
Shinsusa and Raz stalked on the bandits even further; this time one of them was carrying a sword, one was carrying a war-hammer, and the third was carrying an axe. Raz had to take care of the one with the sword while Shinsusa took on the other two. Once they were close enough, Shinsusa suddenly attacked her targets.
She masterfully handled her situation, taking both of her targets down with ease, and turned to face the third who had now been alerted. Raz jumped up onto his target's back and drove his knife deep into the target's neck, cutting his jugular vein. They both fell and Raz's target clenched his wound and wriggled in pain.
Raz watch as the man he attacked bled, tossed and turned in pain, and finally went limp. He had killed for the first time in his life. Before the realization could set in, Shinsusa grabbed him and pulled him to his feet.
"Stab him in the neck again, make sure he's dead," She commanded and Raz obliged. Shinsusa gathered their weapons and set back towards Reina. "We need to leave right now, we'll come back to our camp in the morning, take whatever has not been stolen, and set off," Shinsusa advised Reina.
Reina studied Raz, "Okay," she said.
