Chapter 9 - The Gods

Ever I ask

Who are the gods?

What are they then

If not tricksters and frauds?

They sit comfortably

Watching up high,

They sit comfortably

Watching us die.

Power corrupts

The heart and soul,

Power corrupts

The gods as a whole.

Why wait to see

If Medusa would die,

When you could send Perseus

To kill and then fly.

Why kill the minotaur

When you could prevent it too,

Just don't send the boar

And change all we knew.

Heracles the great,

Heracles the brave,

Heracles the cowardly

Saved from the grave.

Why be jealous

When you control love,

Aphrodite the stupid,

You could kill from above.

Don't send Cupid,

Don't send a god,

Give Psyche a relationship

So monstrous, so flawed.

How was he wrong,

Prometheus too,

Stealing gods' fire,

For mortals he flew.

Myth and legend,

Tale and story,

Paint pictures of gods

Showered in glory.

But ever you heard

Of lies they told,

Of tricking and manipulating

Mortals of old?
