Blake went straight to his office that morning. His mood darker than ever before. The events of the previous day playing over and over in his mind. He did not know why he had allowed himself to be swept up with Michelle but he had, and now he had lost his mate. Maybe forever. He picked up his phone and wrote another message to Marie.
I know you don't want to talk to me but could you please just let me know that you are ok. He watched his phone for a few minutes but the message remained on unread. His anger bubbling up to his chest. He threw his phone down in rage. Blake knew he needed to do something to distract him. There was a large pile of paperwork on his desk. Pack work. He sat down and started working through what needed to be done.
A knock on his door broke his concentration. He glanced up from the paper in his hand and saw Steve walking in.
"Morning Blake. how you holding up?"
a low growl left his chest, telling Steve all he needed to know. Steve sat in one of the leather office chairs on the opposite side of the desk.
"Blake, I know this isn't the best time, but....." Steve hesitated. He knew Blakes mood was dark already.
"Spit out Steve. I am not in the mood for.." Before he could finish his sentence, the door to his office flew open.
His mother came barging in. fury and anger covered her expressions.
"BLAKE MONROE" she roared "WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE"
Blake stood from his chair and started to walk around the edge of his desk. A Sudden pain gripped his chest causing his steps to falter and he reached for his desk to balance himself.
Both Steve and Sophie's eyes widening in panic and they rushed to his side.
"What is it my boy?" Sophie asked as she reached his side.
Before he could speak another sudden and excruciating pain ripped through him, a pain that went far beyond the physical. He fell to his knee's grabbing at his chest. Hid breath becoming short and fast. Another wave of pain hit him, harder and deeper this time. His hand flew to his neck where the pain was radiating from. Darkness started to cloud his vision. His chest tight and his heart beating so fast he thought he was bound to have a heart attack.
The door to the office burst open once more and just before Blakes body fell lifeless onto the floor he saw the pack doctor rush in.
When he awoke, he found himself in a hospital room, disoriented and in pain. His vision gradually cleared, and he saw Steve and his mother, looking on with deep concern and worry etched on their faces.
As he struggled to sit up, the pain he felt still lingering in his heart, Blake's eyes met those of his closest confidants. Their presence offered a sliver of comfort in the midst of his turmoil.
"Blake, you're awake," Steve said, his voice filled with relief.
Sophie, reached out and gently touched his arm. "We were so worried about you, dear."
Blake's throat felt dry as he tried to speak. "Mum, Its Marie. The pain it was from the bond"
His mother nodded, her eyes filled with sadness. "Blake, the pain you felt was that of the bond breaking. The bond... it's gone," she managed to say, the words heavy with sadness.
Blake looked between his mother and Steve, confusion, sorry and pain filled his eyes
"What do you mean? We have not rejected each other. The pain i felt. She must be in trouble. I need to go to her" Blake said loudly as he began to lift himself of the bed and towards the door.
"Blake, Stop" Steve placed a hand on his shoulder.
"reach out, try and feel the bond Blake"
Blake stopped, he reached out with every fiber of his body, but as hard as he tried he could not feel the bond he once shared with Marie. As the realization sunk in, he turned to face his friend.
"Something is wrong. Marie loves me. She would not take another. There is something wrong. We must go now. She needs us"
Without waiting for a response Blake marched out the room and used the pack link to tell his pilot he was on his way and the jet was to be ready to leave. .
Steve and Sophie looked at each other with sadness in his eyes
"Please go with him Steve. I feel he may need his best friend at the end of this"
"Of course Sophie" Steve paused looking back at Sophie before he left the room "What if he is right Sophie? Marie loved him. She has only been gone a day, how could the bond be broken. What if she is in trouble?"
Sophie looked at Steve with her eyes soft "Then he is still going to need his best friend to help him"
Steve nodded as he left the room. Steve caught up with Blake and following him in silence to the jet which was stood engines running, ready and waiting to deliver Blake to whatever his fate may be.
