"I've never apologized to you, have I?" Mom asked.
Evangeline looked up from the hospital tiles, which she was busily staring at until now. She blinked rapidly, wondering where this came from.
Weeks have passed since Evangeline (and Emman) decided to take care of Mom. None of them knew how long Mom will last, so they were trying to make time with her as much as possible.
"What for, Mom?" Evangeline queried.
Mom smiled, her features appearing older than she looked.
"For 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨."
Before Evangeline could say anything, Mom continued.
"I'm sorry for ruining our family." Mom spoke with a soft, gentle voice.
Evangeline hadn't heard this tone (and Mom in general) in a while, so hearing it again no longer calmed her but caused a deep pang in her heart.
