"What's with the long face?" I made an exaggerated pout, causing Boss to roll his eyes at my antics. "Don't tell me someone rejected your Valentine's chocolate."
"No, fucktard," Boss replied aggressively, but this was his default manner of speaking, and I was already quite used to it. "A can hit me in the head."
"Hey!" I exclaimed. "I didn't mean to!"
"Right," Boss said in a tone as if he didn't necessarily believe me but was merely humoring her.
Then he became silent, and it wasn't the usual comforting silence we shared whenever we hung out in the park. It was more of a silence-induced conversation because Boss hesitated to tell me what was on his mind.
"Do you want to ask what's my deal for today's Valentine's?" I guessed, my tone gentle as if I were talking to a child.
Boss's cheeks flushed a bright red, nodding timidly.
