I stammered, not knowing what to say. My cheeks turned red, and I started shaking.
"W-w-what?!"
Seeing my reaction, Death suddenly grinned. He pulled away from me and burst out laughing.
"Just kidding!"
I growled, swatting him harshly on the arm.
"Ouch!" Death winced dramatically, pretending to nurse his arm.
"Asshole!" I shouted, yet I found myself giggling.
'Of course,' I thought to myself. 'There's no possible way that Death incarnate himself would've fallen for me.'
As I looked up at the sky, I felt a bittersweet smile on my lips.
'Even if I already did for him.'
Death hummed, watching as the ducks—fake ducks that were mere fragments of my memories—formed a line as they swam on the pond. Like last time, Death and I stayed on the bench where Boss and the younger Evangeline sat.
