"Do you think they will try something?" Claire asked Alex
"I do." Alex responded.
After leaving the town, Alex, Claire, and Adelia decided to head into the woods and wait for the townspeople to try something. Alex felt there was something more going on here that nobody was telling them. So he decided to wait in hiding for them.
"Look over by the river!" Adelia warned everyone.
They spotted a small group of a little over a dozen men armed with pitchforks and makeshift spears.
"A small militia, huh?" Alex said.
"They're going after the wolfkin, aren't they?" Claire asked.
"Without a doubt." Adelia responded.
"Let's warn the wolfkin now that we have confirmation." Alex said.
"Yeah, let's go, although Claire, since you're more stealthy, keep an eye on them." Adelia said.
"I will; I'll warn you when they start closing in." Claire said.
"Right, stay safe, Claire." Alex said.
Alex and Adelia moved towards the cave where they had found the wolfkin earlier, and soon a figure approached them.
"I thought I told you to leave!" the older of the wolfkins said.
"I know we're here to warn you." Adelia said.
"Warn me?" the wolfkin said.
"Yes, the townspeople have gathered an armed militia, and they're heading this way." Alex said.
"How can I trust that you didn't help them?" the wolfkin asked.
"I gave you that potion earlier; what point would that serve if I planned to sell you out anyway?" Alex said.
"Dammit! Daria!" the woman yelled.
"Yes mom?" Daria responded.
"Is Reyna feeling any better?" the woman asked.
"No, she's still not awake, so I haven't been able to give her the antidote" Daria responded.
"I can help with that!" Alex said. "Just trust me to help you, please."
"Daria, watch every move he makes; go ahead and help her human." the woman said.
Alex followed Daria back to the cave and spotted the girl who was sick earlier; just like the other two wolfkin, she had milk chocolate skin and long white hair; however, he couldn't tell her eyes color due to them being closed.
"Does she have a fever?" Alex asked.
"Yes, we've tried cooling her, but it hasn't worked." Daria said.
"Has she woken up since we left?" Alex asked.
"No, she's been unconscious for two days now." Daria said.
Alex started to think of a solution. "Damn, it'll be difficult to give her the antidote then. Well, there is one method, but..."
"There is only one thing I can do to give her this antidote; just don't punch me, okay?" Alex said, looking at Daria.
"What are you going to do?" Daria asked.
Alex raised Reyna's head and held it in place by placing a hand on the back of her head.
Soon Alex drank the antidote but didn't swallow any of it and put his mouth to Reyna's shocking Daria just from the sight.
"What are you-" Daria said before she stopped herself, she saw the antidote going down Reyna's throat from her gulps, and Alex soon moved his lips away from Reyna's.
Daria, seeing this, was blushing as Alex wiped off his lip.
"She should get better soon, but first we have to head back to your mother." Alex said.
"R-Right." Daria responded.
Alex and Daria ran out of the cave seeing Adelia, Claire, and the mother wolfkin talking outside.
"Alex! The militia guys are closing in." Claire said.
"Okay, so it's time to make a decision here: one, we could try to dissuade them from doing this, or two, we fight. It's up to you, um...what's your name? Alex asked the wolkin.
"My name is Severa, and obviously we fight; if we don't, they'll try to kill my daughters. I refuse to allow that."
"Well, Claire? Adelia? How about you two? Last chance to back out; I won't force you to fight if you don't want to." Alex said.
Claire and Adelia both nodded, saying they were ready to fight.
"Well, it's time to strategize a bit." Alex said.
*A few minutes later*
The militia, led by the mayor, slowly approached the caves with no sign of the wolfkin.
"Where are those damn dogs?"
"They should be here." the mayor said.
*BOOM*
A purple lightning strike hit the center of the militia group, knocking out one of the militia members.
"What the hell?"
"What the fuck was that?"
"Magic?"
Alex jumped down from the tree behind the group, with all of them noticing and turning their weapons toward him.
"You! What are you doing here?" the mayor said.
"Protecting them from you." Alex said.
"What? You pity those ugly beasts?" the mayor said.
"If anyone is a ugly beast here, it's all of you assholes." Alex said.
"What did you just fucking say?" a militia member said.
"If you side with them, then we'll kill you all the same." another militia member said.
"You can try; you won't succeed, though, and it's not just me you have to worry about." Alex said while smiling.
Soon, two members of the militia were completely frozen in ice.
Adelia walked out of the woods on the other side of the militia.
"YOU BITCH!" The mayor yelled out.
"Well, now, Mr. Mayor, that's not very nice." Adelia said.
Then another militia member screamed out in pain.
"Justin, are you okay?" The mayor said, however, the sight in front of him horrified him to the core.
"Hello again, Isaac; it's been awhile." Severa said as the man in front of her dropped dead.
She had clawed out his stomach, leading him to bleed out quickly.
"Severa!" the mayor yelled out.
Then another member of the militia dropped dead with a throwing knife in his head.
Claire walked over, completing the encirclement of the militia group.
"We're surrounded!"
"Dammit!"
"Calm down, everyone!" The mayor yelled out.
"Now, you have us surrounded, that doesn't mean anything; we'll still kill this bitch and her daughters even with you three here." Issac said.
Alex sighed as he closed his eyes to think. A quote from his favorite anime, which he knew all too well, came to mind.
"When there is evil in this world that justice cannot defeat, would you taint your hands with evil to defeat evil?"
There was more to the quote, but that didn't really apply to the situation.
Alex nodded to himself as he reopened his eyes, now with an even colder look.
Alex unsheathed his sword, putting the remaining militia members on guard.
"You've made your choice, Mr. Mayor." Alex said before he quickly cut down two of the militia members.
Severa, Claire, and Adelia did the same, killing more of the members.
As each militia member dropped dead, Isaac became more and more worried. He was an old man after all, but the youngest and strongest members of the town were dropping one by one until he was the only one remaining.
"Please spare me!" he cried out.
"Would you have spared me or my daughters?" Severa asked.
"Severa, the mayor's fate is in your hands now." Alex said.
"Wait, you're human; how can you just sacrifice me to these abominations?" Isaac pleaded with Alex.
"I didn't do anything; you made every decision today; these men here are dead because of you; their wives are now widowed; and their children are now fatherless because of you. All you had to do was leave these people alone. But your hatred for non-human species led you to these actions. Blame only yourself." Alex said before turning his back to Isaac and walking away.
"Wait! Wait! Kngh!" Isaac tried yelling out before his throat was slashed by Severa's claws.
Isaac, bleeding from his throat, tried to yell out in pain, but only muffled noises came out.
"This is for my husband!" Severa said before using her claws to rip out Isaac's heart.
Severa threw his heart on the ground and started crying.
It was all over; she had not only finally saved her daughters but also avenged someone she held dear to her heart.
After the battle, everyone returned to the cave where Daria was waiting; however, there was also a surprise: Reyna had awakened and was now sitting on a rock covered in a blanket waiting for them.
"Reyna!" Severa yelled out as she ran to hug her daughter.
Severa cried into her daughter's shoulder; she had been worried sick as her health had deteriorated over the past week.
"Mom, thank you for helping me!" Reyna said.
Severa nervously looked at her daughter.
"It wasn't really me; it was these humans who really helped you." Severa said.
Reyna looked confused; however, when she saw Alex, she blushed. She had never seen a human with such distinct purple eyes before.
"Alex, Claire, Adelia, Im sorry for how I treated you today. You saved my daughter and helped me avenge my husband. I owe you a great debt. Please stay here tonight with us; it's getting late, and I doubt you're safe going back to Thornwell." Severa said.
"Mom? Are you sure?" Daria asked her mother.
"Yes, we owe them a lot, Daria, and I want to pay them back anyway we can." Severa said.
"Wait, what happened while I've been asleep?" Reyna asked her sister.
"I'll catch you up soon. Trust me, you won't believe what I tell you." Daria said.
"Huh?" Reyna asked.
"If you will accept us, then we'd love to stay here, since there is no chance we can go back to the town." Adelia said.
To prepare for the night, Alex, Adelia, and Claire set up their camping tents outside of the cave and went to sleep for the night. However, one person inside the cave couldn't go to sleep after hearing about what happened.
"He did what!"
