Chapter 1 - Peaceful life

Petal POV

______________

Reaching to touch the roses that had bloomed just recently in the garden, the texture was soft against my hand. The red color was a beautiful sight to behold. I bent down to smell the roses. inhaling its scent, I closed my eyes, feeling relaxed already.

Opening my eyes, I was met with the sight of Ethan training the dogs. Now that they live with us, my relationship with them has become closer and stronger. Especially Max, somehow I feel that this dog understands everything I feel and I find myself very comfortable around him.

It's been two months since I woke up from the coma. Everything still feels foggy sometimes, but with Ethan's help and his family, I was able to recover faster than I thought it would take. Ethan's mother visits us every day to check on me. I always see the feeling of guilt reflecting in her eyes, but she never admits it, and I didn't talk about it.

Ethan's family blamed herself for what happened to me but it wasn't no one's fault, it was meant to happen and after I woke up from the coma I came to realize that if that unfortunate accident didn't happen, me and Ethan would have never got back to each other. What happened was a tragic thing to happen, but it was destined, and we couldn't stop it no matter what we did.

Ethan told me that a sniper was hired to kill us both but I protected him that day and I'm not regretting it, because if something happened to him, I wouldn't be strong enough to handle it so I'm thankful for that.

"What are you thinking about?" I heard Ethan say.

I was lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice that he finished training the dogs.

"Nothing." I signaled with my hands, smiling at him.

I saw Ethan pull the chair and sit close to me. He seemed to not believe my answer, I just sometimes wonder how he knows when I'm telling the truth.

"Still thinking about what happened?" He asked, and I just laughed spontaneously.

I reached to take his hand in mine, entwining our hands together, telling him that I'm fine. Ethan held my hand tightly as he stared into my eyes, concern mixed with love in his gaze.

It seems no matter what I do to assure him that I'm doing alright nothing convinces him, so as Lana Ethan's mother told me that there are things that you need to leave for the time to heal it.

Ethan brought my hand to his lips, kissing the back of it, his eyes never leaving mine."It makes me more concerned when you are not speaking what's on your mind to me. You know that this will never be a barrier between us." He said as reached to caress my throat.

He was referring to my disability and I was touched by his deep concern. But I no longer think of that as a barrier between us, I just don't want to worry him with my thoughts.

I stood up and took two steps closer to him before I sat myself in his lap, and he naturally warped his hands around my body in a protective way. I rested my head on his chest, specifically on the spot of his beating heart. Physical touch seems to be the only way to calm him, and I could feel his body relaxing as he held me. The trick worked, and I was glad.

I looked up at him and he was already staring at me as he ran his fingers through my hair, his actions relaxing my body and lulling me to sleep before I knew it my eyelids closed on their own and I was draped to sleep, feeling comfortable and safe from everything in his strong arms.

Ethan POV

I watched as Petal continued sleeping in my arms, and I stayed there, sitting unmoving, unable to disturb her peaceful sleep. Her calm facial expressions as she slept reduced my conscience. Unlike last night when she was in pain and she couldn't sleep peacefully.

Removing her hearing devices, I positioned her head in a much more comfortable position. Pushing back her hair, my eyes fall on the scar on the side of her head just behind her ear. The sight of this scar always reminds me of that unfortunate day.

I tried to convince her to do a scar revision surgery, but she refused and said that she doesn't wish to enter hospitals again and I could relate to what she was feeling.

Being in a coma for two years isn't an easy thing for a human being to go through. Even if she was sleeping all the time and wasn't aware of what was happening around her.

I gently and slowly traced the tender tissue of the scar a few times before I stopped and lowered my head to kiss her forehead. Standing up steadily, I walked inside the house, heading to the bedroom. The dogs immediately followed me, executing their new orders to be around Petal all the time.

Carefully laying her body on the bed, I reached for her shoes and removed them before I pulled the covers over her body so she wouldn't feel cold. Because Petal had to wake up alone in a dark room, I turned on the lampshade and the soft light,  lighting the room.

Taking one last look at her, I gave the dogs the order to sit and watch over her before I left the room heading to the kitchen to prepare the lunch for Petal when she woke up.
