JUNE' S POV
"don't give me that bullshit again. your rent is due and I want it now" my landlady yelled " am sorry, I know you've been nothing but patient with me. I promise I will have your money by the end of today. please bare with me" I pleaded. "okay but this is going to be the last time" she warned me as she turned to leave. "thanks" I yelled out to her as she left. I closed the door and leaned against it trying to figure out how I got to this point in my life.
My name is June Parker. I was born into a very rich family. We were very happy just me, my mom and dad. Everything changed when I was eight years old. My parents' business went bankrupt and eventually crumpled. My parents turned to their close friends and associates but everyone of them turned their backs against them and left them hanging. We lost our house and everything we owned. My father turned into a drunk and gambler and eventually died. My mom stepped up as the sole provider but my dad left debts for us to pay. my mom could not take it anymore, no matter how hard she worked the debts were just never paid off. At age ten, my mom was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and she died few months later. I was moved from different foster homes until I aged out of the system. I was determined to make a name for myself so I worked hard and saw myself through school. I graduated with so much difficulty. I had to work two jobs and it still wasn't enough. I got a scholarship from Stowe foundation which were the owners of Stowe industries. As a result of the scholarship, I got a job offer from the Stowe industries after graduation. I worked in the marketing department as a graphics designer. I was in charge of their ads and poster creation for their latest projects.
I quickly snapped out of my thoughts and went to prepare for work. I went into my room and stripped out of my clothes and made it into the bathroom for a shower. I came out about twenty minutes later and proceeded to start my skincare routine. I searched through my closet for a perfect outfit that screamed rich and successful even though I knew I wasn't, it wont be bad to feel like it, right? I settled for a gray trouser suit and a white camisole. I paired it with a pair of black red bottom heels and a black handbag. I wore my earrings and wrist watch. I curled my thick black hair and let it fall over my shoulders.I checked myself out in the mirror, I looked great so I blew myself a kiss. I put my phone, laptop and other important items in my handbag. I went to the kitchen for a quick breakfast of coffee and leftover pizza. I quickly emptied my coffee into my mouth and washed the mug and threw the empty pizza box into the bin. I locked my apartment and proceeded to the flight of stairs since I stayed in the second floor. "hey, June what's up?" Henry my neighbor greeted. "am good and you?" I replied, "off to work I guess?" he asked "yeah" I replied flatly trying not to carry the conversation on. "have a nice day" he wished me "hmm" I hummed as I made my way out of the apartment complex. I hailed a taxi and got in, I told the driver my office address, the ride to the office took about thirty minutes and I was glad I had made it to work on time today at least I won't have to deal with my boss today. I quickly got down from the taxi and paid the driver. I stood in front of the the huge building which I can say is the largest in the city. Despite having worked here for some time I still can't wrap my head around how big this building is. I strolled inside the building. "June, hold up" I heard Avery, my best friend and colleague call. "hey, good morning Avery" I said with a smile. "someone looks hot today" she said grinning. I rolled my eyes at her statement " like as though you haven't me in this outfit" I said to her. "but today's own looks different and I can't just place my hand on it" she said as we got into the elevator, she pressed the button for our floor. " yeah, right" I said.
We had light conversations about work and other things until the elevator stopped at our floor, we stepped out and I headed for my cubicle after saying goodbye to Avery as she went off to her cubicle. I entered my cubicle, I took out my laptop and other documents I had in my bag. I sat down and mentally prepared myself for the day. I opened by laptop so I could finish up with the work from yesterday. I had to finish it before the deadline unless I had my boss to face I don't want that, I try to avoid his path as much as I can.
While I was busy working, my office landline rang, I picked up the receiver "June Parker, how may I help you" I said. "Miss Parker, I want you in my office now" I heard Mr Peters say. "okay, be there in a minute" I replied then the line went dead. So much for avoiding my boss, now I have to meet him face to face this morning.
Well Mr Peters, my boss is one of those people that merely looking at them can make your skin crawl and not to mention his numerous advances I try to play dumb to.
I quickly got up, straighten my clothes and left my office for his. Let's see what the problem is today.
