Chapter 37 - The Veterans Are Not Dead

Wuwuwu…

Seeing that the company commander did not speak, Chen Ran and the others naturally did not dare to ask or say anything. They just sat there like tombstones and waited.

Squeak!

After almost an hour, their car finally stopped in a dense forest area.

BANG!

Li Xiang opened the door. When he jumped out of the car, he shouted to Chen Ran and the others, "Get out of the car."

Chen Ran and the other three got out of the car silently, then walked to the company commander's side and stood there.

Li Xiang's expression was cold as he glanced at them and said, "This is the border of our motherland. This is also the reason why our Tiger Company has stationed troops here."

"The border?"

Chen Ran turned his eyes to look around and indeed saw a stone tablet standing beside the company commander. On it were the words "Fire Country".

"It seems that the company commander brought everyone to the border. I believe he wants to fire up everyone's hearts."

Li Xiang continued, "As a soldier, it's nothing to be strong in combat. You have to be familiar with the forest, snowfield, desert, and rainforest. As a future general, you have to be familiar with all the terrain to be able to deal with it accordingly. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

Chen Ran and the other three also became serious when they heard this and replied in unison.

Apart from Chen Ran, who had roughly guessed what the company commander meant, Yan Poyue and the other two were very confused.

"Company Commander, what do you mean? Are you planning to bring us here for secret special training?"

As new recruits, they had indeed not experienced jungle training. They were both puzzled and expectant.

While the three of them were puzzled, Chen Ran, who was at the side, was excited and his eyes lit up.

"Isn't the Grade S disguise talent that I just acquired enough to deal with the jungle that the company commander mentioned?"

Li Xiang continued, "The combat terrain is divided into four types: jungles, snowy plains, deserts, and rainforests. You must be proficient in every one of them before you can be considered a true soldier. And jungle warfare has always been the Fire Country's most specialized way of warfare. Our soldiers have relied on the wisdom of the jungle to fight their way into the world. Our ancestors were all children of the jungle when they fought in the jungle…."

As Chen Ran listened, the S-Class Disguise skill that he had just fused flashed through his mind.

"Didn't that talent say that it could disguise as everything in the forest?"

"Company Commander, these words seem to be tailor-made for you."

Li Xiang said coldly, "Stand here quietly and don't move!"

"Yes!"

In an instant, Chen Ran and the other three stood up straighter. They just stood there quietly without saying a word.

Boom boom boom!

Not long after, the sound of thunder suddenly sounded in the distant sky. After a large amount of lightning danced like crazy snakes, it quickly rained.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The rain came very quickly and very heavily. At first, it was a raindrop the size of a peanut, but in the blink of an eye, it turned into heavy rain.

Li Xiang was also standing in the rain, and he had no intention of letting everyone take shelter from the rain. He looked at Chen Ran and the others and ordered, "Stand properly. Don't move. Just stand there."

Not long after, the five of them were drenched by the rain. However, no one, including Li Xiang, moved. They just stood there.

Suddenly, the most primitive bugle call sounded from the mountain peak.

Beep, beep, beep…

A loud and clear sound came along with the mountain wind. It passed through the rain and clearly entered the ears of Chen Ran and the other three.

"What… is that sound?"

"Is that the sound of a charge?"

Hearing such a charge, Chen Ran and the other three had serious expressions on their puzzled faces.

Li Xiang's face was expressionless as he said, "This is the Charge. Every soldier, upon hearing this Charge, will charge out without a care for their own safety."

As soon as he finished speaking, his entire body tensed up. A strong killing intent rose from his body, sweeping out like a storm. He looked like a sharp blade that could attack at any moment.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Even though Chen Ran and the other three were still rookies who had never experienced actual combat, when they heard the battle horn that pierced through the clouds, their blood began to boil.

That's right, when the war horn sounded, it would be the time when the Fire Country's army would be drenched in blood as they charged forward. No matter how strong the enemies in front of them were, how many of them were there, or how powerful their weapons were, when the war horn sounded, even if it was the cookhouse soldiers, they would all rush forward with kitchen knives in their hands.

On the battlefield, once the horn was sounded, the warriors would not retreat even if they had to fight to the last person.

To the enemy, this was a deadly sound.

At minus forty degrees Celsius, the Fire Country's warriors would be able to destroy the most powerful enemy in the world, and that was the spirit of the Charge, the spirit of the Fire Country's warriors to fight to the death against their enemies.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Chen Ran and the other three listened to the continuous sound of the battle horn. Their eyes kept looking. At first, they were puzzled, then they were determined, and then… their eyes were filled with fighting spirit.

As soldiers, everyone yearned to go to the battlefield. They could not help but be surprised when they heard such a signal.

"Why is there a Charge here?"

Chen Ran and the others were very surprised. They could not help but look into the distance and begin to search for the person who blew the horn.

In the army, they listened to the trumpets every day. There were also such horns, but the same trumpets did not give them such a strong feeling. The feel was completely different.

They had never heard such a murderous and hot-blooded command.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

Chen Ran and the other three followed the direction of the sound and swept their gazes over bit by bit. They all wanted to see who was the one who blew this ancient charging horn.

Suddenly, Li Xiang raised his head and pointed to the northeast corner. Although he did not say anything, the next moment, Chen Ran and the other three looked over and saw a figure.

It was a veteran, a veteran in a worn, patched, old-fashioned military uniform.

The veteran had a medal on his chest. With his left hand on his waist and his right hand holding a worn-out charging horn, he was blowing the charging horn.

"It turns out that senior is blowing the horn!"

Seeing this scene, everyone's hearts trembled slightly, and their blood instantly boiled.

Beep beep beep!

A loud and clear horn sounded continuously, echoing between the heavens and the earth.

The sound of the Charge was passionate, and it made one's blood boil. However, as Chen Ran and the others listened, they unknowingly felt an infinite sense of desolation in the depths of their hearts.

"What's going on? Why is this happening?"

The four of them, including Chen Ran, were surprised. They frowned slightly.

That's right. When the Charge started to sound, they indeed felt as if their ears were filled with overwhelming battle cries.

Accompanied by this shout, thousands of soldiers charged toward the enemy like a torrent. Those soldiers rushed forward without caring about their lives and tore the enemy into pieces…

In the end, the blood on their bodies was dyed red. The land they had protected…

"But, but now, why does it feel desolate?"
