Silver was in school when she received an important call from her mother requesting her presence at home. She wondered what could be wrong due to the urgency in her voice.
She considered staying for the last class but thought against it since the longer she stayed, something bad or even worse could be happening at home.
She bade her friend Carlotta goodbye, promising to call her when she sorts things out at home. She entered her car and drove away at full speed. Different thoughts filled her head as she wondered what the problem was. She could only wish that nothing bad had happened.
She arrived home only to see about six cars lined up at their gate making it difficult for her to go in. She quickly looked for a space to park and alighted from the car. Her heart was pounding fast as the feeling of dread washed over her.
'What exactly was going on?'
She ran into the compound and the sight her eyes came to see halted her next move. Men dressed in black suits and dark sunglasses surrounded the house. They looked like they had just come out from the movie 'Men in Black'. Their conspicuous dressing and grim faces made her heart sink in her stomach.
She quickly ran into the building, tears clouding her eyes as she feared for her parent's fate.
"Mother, Father, Where are you?" Tears were laced in her voice. She knew she wasn't supposed to start crying at what she didn't know but the stern-looking men outside were enough for her to imagine the worst.
"Silver, sweetie we're on the patio" She heard her mother's voice and sighed in relief when she noticed that she wasn't in any form of danger.
She was about to enter inside when she bumped into someone. She rubbed her forehead soothing the pain.
"How can one's chest be so hard," She thought. She looked up to see the owner of this hard rock chest only to see dark sunglasses on his face. Even with the glasses on, she could feel him boring holes into her face. It seemed as if he was scrutinizing her. She touched her face checking if there was anything on it.
She scowled at him so he would stop staring at her only for his aura to change. He had this cold demeanor before. But the moment she scowled at him, a chill went down her spine. It was as if they had increased the air conditioner to the highest. She shivered slightly rubbing at her forearms. He noticed this and the coldness seemed to dissipate a little.
'What the hell just happened.'
She took a step back and that was when she noticed that he wasn't alone. Two guys were at his back, acting like his bodyguards. They were also cladded in the same attire as the men outside. The only difference was that one of the guys behind him held some documents.
'What's up the sunglasses? Are they like some secret agents?'
"Sweetie, is that you?" Silver heard her mother's voice and was reminded of the reason she rushed back home.
She moved to the side creating space for the strangers to pass while she went inside. Her mother stood up from the chair immediately after she saw her while her father remained seated wiping away beads of sweat from his face.
'What's with this atmosphere? What exactly happened here?'
"Mother!" Silver cried running into her mother's outstretched arms. She hugged her tightly sniffling into her neck, happy that nothing happened to her and her father.
"Why did you ask for me to come home immediately? I thought something was wrong. You gave me a scare" Now that she noticed they were fine, she was angry at the way her mother called for her with urgency.
"I'm sorry sweetie, but something very important came up. Why don't you have a seat first, you look tired" She guided her to sit down and handed her a glass of water.
She gulps down the water without taking a rest. It seemed like she was thirsty after all her running around.
"Father, are you okay?" He jolted in shock at the sound of her voice.
"What are you thinking about so seriously? You didn't even notice when I came in" He smiled at her and tapped the space beside him inviting her to sit with him.
"My darling. I'm sorry" He took her hand in his and patted it softly. She looked at him and he smiled, only that this time the smile didn't reach his eyes. His face looked gloomy.
Silver looked at her mother to get answers on why he was behaving this way only to see her silently wiping away the tears that trickled down her cheeks.
She was now getting worried. She could feel the tears gathering in her eyes, ready to spill at any given moment.
"Mother, Father, can you please tell me what's going on? I seriously don't like the way you both are behaving."
"I'm sorry sweetie, but you're getting married soon" She heard her mother say before she burst out wailing.
'Did I just hear married? Like marriage??'
At this moment, Silver wanted to believe that her mind was playing tricks on her and she didn't hear her mother's words clearly but the next words from her father's mouth seemed like a bullet was shot into her skull.
"Your mother is right darling, you're getting married soon" He was trying very hard not to let the tears that were gathered in his eyes spill.
The news of Silver's marriage was a bombshell to her. Her father started saying something else but she couldn't hear. There was this ringing in her head and the only thing she could hear over and over again was...
'You are getting married soon.'
