Chapter 146 - The ability of the intelligent assistant

Roar!

The terrifying beasts that would frighten even the most experienced hunters attacked District 3. Their invasion was swift and sudden, but for Jacob's intelligent assistant, no one would have known.

These mutations, also known as Mutos, were a weapon that Jacob didn't expect the Capitol to use so soon.

They were Lizards, these Mutations had killed Finnick at some point in the future and were programmed to hunt down someone in particular. This time, Katniss was the target, but Jacob knew it was a gift from President Snow.

The lizards had four limbs with sharp claws at the end of each finger, tightly pale white skin, and were the size of humans. They had long reptilian tails and hunched backs.

They also had the ability to walk on their hind legs as well as all fours, which anyone who saw them described as if they were gliding.

When Jacob saw them in the distance, he knew they seemed like a mix of humans and reptiles, with faces of conflicting features. They emitted a scent similar to President Snow's white roses and had the ability to sniff out Jacob to specifically kill him, although they also killed anyone who got in their way.

They mostly communicated through hissing, but they were also given the ability to whisper "Jacob," probably to frighten them.

"Jacob, move and let's run to the hovercrafts!" Johanna shouted urgently from behind Jacob.

"Give me your weapon, I have a way to stop them," Jacob said as he turned to Johanna.

"Are you crazy?"

"No, they have a frequency that I'm already analyzing. If my tool can control how they communicate, I can stop them." Jacob took the woman's weapon, pointed it at the crying girl in the distance, and said, "There are still many people to save. Let's do our job properly."

Johanna turned her gaze to where Jacob was pointing, and there she saw a girl. When she tried to turn her head back to Jacob to tell him that she was injured, he ran forward. "Damn crazy, I hope you don't die when I come back for you!"

"[Master, the weakness of these lizards is their feet and head. I can attack in that sequence to eliminate them!]"

"Very well, I feel confident with that." Jacob didn't know where all that strength that propelled his muscles forward was coming from, but he knew there was nothing to limit it.

He didn't feel the adrenaline rushing through his body, nor fear or nervousness. Right now, it was as if his body had taken a step forward, reaching a new power. His vision improved, the wounds on his body had almost completely healed, and he was sure he felt the same sensation his intelligent assistant used when controlling his body.

"I am stronger!" Jacob muttered before raising his weapon and shooting at some mutations that were chasing a group of people. "Get out of here, head to the hovercrafts!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Jacob's accuracy had improved, each bullet successfully penetrated the heads of these two horrendous creatures, eliminating them without using much ammunition.

"How long will it take you?" Jacob asked as he watched a creature jump between roofs in his direction, but before doing so, it emitted a hiss as if communicating.

"That's it, call your friends."

Roar!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Jacob started running towards an open space where he felt safer. Positioning was crucial to eliminate these horrendous creatures. Feeling his body more agile, Jacob jumped, supported by a wooden crate, onto the roof of a house. From that height, Jacob saw the mutations heading towards him.

"[Master, in ten minutes, I will be able to initiate a reset to stop the mutations. Unfortunately, this type of creature is something even the Capitol doesn't have control over. My capabilities at the moment can only stop them!]"

"That's enough!" Jacob said as he began to eliminate the creatures.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Jacob, on top of a roof, with his gaze fixed on the grotesque mutations approaching. They were monstrous creatures, beings that posed a deadly threat to everyone in their path.

With his weapon in hand, Jacob aimed precisely and began to shoot. His unusually accurate aim demonstrated the influence of the intelligent assistant that had taken control of his body moments before. The shots echoed in the air, and each bullet found its target quickly and effectively.

"I need you to support me with the hovercrafts, destroy as many as you can!"

"[Understood, master!]"

The coldness in Jacob's eyes left no room for doubt: he was willing to fight to the end to protect those who had trusted him. His movements were agile and precise, eliminating all the mutations that approached within fifty meters of him.

As the mutations fell one by one, Jacob's coldness intensified. There was no room for fear or doubt in his mind. His sole objective was to eliminate each one of these abominations and ensure the safety of others.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of gunfire mixed with the cries of the creatures and the roar of battle. Jacob moved with an almost supernatural fluidity, jumping from one point to another on the roof to get better angles for shooting. His mind focused solely on his task, blocking out any distractions or negative thoughts.

With each mutation that fell, a sense of relief invaded Jacob's heart. He knew that his ability to confront these abominations had been enhanced by his connection with the intelligent assistant. Although he was still aware of the uncertainty surrounding his situation, he clung to confidence in his abilities and the support of those who believed in him.

A kind of sensor had filled every part of his muscles and body, something he had never felt before.

Bang! Bang!

With the last bullets, Jacob managed to eliminate two more mutations. He didn't wonder where they had come from; that wasn't important now as he had to focus on eliminating any of these creatures before his intelligent assistant could stop them.

Click!

Having run out of bullets, Jacob threw his weapon aside and unleashed his Kusarigama forward, with a knife in his left hand. His feet are positioned to increase his attack and defense power.

Boom! Boom!

At that moment, the hovercraft explosions rose into the sky, launching an attack against the mutations furthest from Jacob, trying to alleviate the burden.

"[The mutts are entering through the river, some through the sewers. Eliminate threats while the attack is halted!]"

"There's no time!" Jacob saw two mutations jump onto his roof, and from their hideous fangs, they muttered a word: "Jacob!"
