Chapter 9 - How do you tell someone to f**k off nicely?

An angry Dhiraj entered his office. Never in his life had he felt so helpless. Why didn't Nakul want to be with him? Dhiraj recalled the events that had taken place just a few hours earlier.

After Nakul's cold reply, all Dhiraj could do was sigh. His brain wasn't able to function properly, and he desperately felt the need to be left alone. He just replied that he would pick Nakul up for the next counseling session due in 3-4 days.

'Aren't Monochromes totally obsessed with their chromes? I get the 'not-gay' part. But babe I'm confident in my skills. You will like me, no doubt. It's only a matter of chance.' Dhiraj couldn't help but wonder.

Sitting on his chair he decided to let go of this topic for now. If he lets it sit alone for some time, he'll come up with a better solution for sure. He closed his eyes and focused on his breathing, trying to get himself to calm down.

The sound of the door opening halted him. It was Rajat.

"Sir, here is the report about his past." he calmly stated.

That perked up Dhiraj. "Tell me."

Rajat cleared his throat and began.

"Had 2 girlfriends. One when he was 16. She was in his high school..."

'His girlfriend must've been a monochrome too.' Dhiraj pondered upon.

He brought back his attention to Rajat.

"She was a monochrome too. They both went to a school exclusively for monochromes." Rajat paused for a second.

"Yeah. I know."

"Okay. They were together for 2 years. And at the end of their schooling, they broke up. His next girlfriend was in his 2nd year of college. A Normal person. But they broke up 2-3 years later. He didn't get into any relationship after that." Rajat finished his reporting.

"Any information on why they broke up?"

"Well, his 1st girlfriend broke up with him on the grounds that in their universities they might meet their chromes. And she wouldn't want to hurt Nakul when she found her 'fated partner' '' he said air-quoting the words 'fated-partner'.

Taking a pause he continued, "and the 2nd one had a savior complex of some sort, I guess. She felt good about the fact that she's dating a mono. Trying to show that she isn't like other people who won't accept them. But later I guess things got exhausting for her. So, she broke up." he gave a light shrug.

"So, his girlfriends were basically douchebags. Hmmmm. No wonder he is so afraid of relationships." concluded Dhiraj, maintaining the streak of his classic trait of jumping on conclusion without any valid basis.

Hearing about Nakul's past and the conclusion he drew on his own [that Nakul is afraid of relationships] made him feel at ease. He relaxed on his chair, closing his eyes. With a smile he declared,

"Guess I'll just have to try harder."

It was night. And Nakul was replaying the events that happened during the day. He was utterly exhausted. He remembered the cold air that took over after what he said.

Honestly, he was just at a loss at the moment. He just wanted to get out of the tricky situation because he had no answer to Dhiraj's questions. And he had to stand firm on his ground. Dark memories of the past swept him, and his heartbeat got erratic. He needed to avoid the consequences at all costs.

Nakul knew he had to end this. As soon as possible. The more he gets entangled in this, the messier it will get.

He picked up his phone and dialed a number. The ring went through. Few seconds later the person on the other side picked up the call.

"Kuku! What Happened? Why are you calling so late? Is everything fine?" the lady on the other side questioned her worries.

It was his older sister.

"Di..." Nakul paused, unsure of what words he should use.

"What happened?" Naina asked.

"How do you tell someone to fuck off nicely?"

Trivia:

Nakul and his sister are really close. She is 5 years older than Nakul. She not only sees herself as his older sister but as his mother too and is very protective of him.

Nakul spent most of childhood without friends because the kids around him considered weird. Seeing her brother sitting all by himself, she took upon herself to be his best friend. So, they spend most of their time together as kids.
