Chapter 6 - Level Grinding

Roman pushed through the crowd and was prepared to protect Clem.

He didn't understand why this was happening. In his past life, Ivan never interacted with him or his family. They had escaped their neighborhood after learning that Ivan's family had taken control of it.

As Roman approached the two, Ivan saw Roman and suddenly let go of Clem's wrist. He backed up and looked at Roman with fears in his eyes. The boy was the same age as Clem so it seemed that he was frightened when someone older called out aggressively at him.

"Clem are you okay?"

Clem couldn't look at her brother. She just nods while her head was still down. Roman turned to face Ivan but instead of seeing him, Julius Gibson, Ivan's older brother was there.

Roman knew Julius since they were only one year apart. Julius was 18, in the final year of high school. If Ivan was known as the spoiled brat then Julius was the soft hearted and kind older brother. He immediately got on his knees.

"Please Roman! I'm sorry for what my brother did! Just please forgive him this once! I will take care of him."

Not many knew but Julius would always have to apologize on behalf of his little brother. He was a constant headache for Julius.

Roman just sighed. Since he knew that Julius was a good person, he decided not to do anything to Ivan. He was sure that Julius would lecture him. He helps him up.

"It's fine. Clem, let's go."

As the brother and sister turns to leave, Julius begins lecturing Ivan. Ivan just watched the two siblings walk away.

Who knows what was going through his mind as his brother continued lecturing him.

After we got home, I tried cooking something for Clem but she wouldn't eat.

"It's fine Roman. I'm still tired. I'm just going to get some rest."

Before I could stop her, she had already left for her room. I sat at the kitchen table as I listened to her walk up the stairs and close the door to her room. I listened quietly. Once I didn't hear anything, I decided that she must have actually slept.

I pulled out my phone.

"There must be some posts about the game on Golddit."

I open up the Golddit app and type in Dream Online. There was already a fan page with 250,000 people following it. I scroll through to see how people were reacting to the game. These were some of the top upvoted posts.

'The game feels so real! I'm calling it now, GAME OF THE YEAR!'

'I can't figure out how to finish this quest. Any help?'

'How do I get these skills? I heard people talking about these skills but I don't see it on my player interface.'

It looks like not much is known about the game yet. I couldn't help but chuckle. It looks like I still have a lead on everyone with my knowledge.

As I kept scrolling, I see something that really shocked me.

'Did you see that world message? Does anyone else have a clue how he could of found it?'

Below the post was a screenshot. What shocked me was that the in-game chat had my name in it. I zoomed in to see what it said.

*World Message: Congratulations to Player Romeo! The first player to complete a 'Forgotten' quest!

Damn, that's not good! This world message thing wasn't a part of the game from what I remembered! The game would never show other player's achievements like this.

I scroll through the comments to see what was being said.

'I wonder if he got a special reward? Naming it a 'Forgotten' quest makes it sound special!'

'Does anyone want to look for these quests together? They might be different from regular quests.'

'I'm going to add him in-game! He might tell me, I'll keep you guys updated.'

I couldn't help but feel my hands get clammy.

"It seems that things are slight different here. The changes aren't huge but they are noticeable."

This definitely confirms that I'm in a different timeline and I didn't just go back in time. I need to rethink my strategy on how I approach the game.

I went back upstairs and sat down at my desk. I scribbled a bunch of notes in my journal. After 30 minutes I had a rough plan laid out before me.

"This is only a rough draft since I don't know how much has changed."

I went ahead and checked my phone. It was now a little bit passed 1 P.M. I guess I could get back into the game now.

When Clem went inside her room. Her room looked the same as it always does. However, once she sat down, she realized that something wasn't right. Her women's intuitions were kicking in.

She got out of bed and looked around. She searched under her bed. She looked in her closet. Nothing, she didn't see anything weird.

"Maybe I'm just tired."

She decides to go back to bed. She still feels a bit scared after what happened. She just assumed that was the reason why she thought something was wrong. After a moment, she was fast asleep.

If Clem just looked a little longer, she would of realized that there was a letter on her desk, hidden among a bunch of other things on her desk. This letter could change her future if she saw it sooner.

Roman POV

When I logged in, I was standing where I was before I got off. Thankfully when you logged out, your character disappears as well. I don't have to worry about getting looted.

"Let's see. There are a few quest I should complete once I get back into the city. Some of those quests aren't needed but some of them do unlock skills that I think will be useful later on."

Since I wasn't in a hurry, I figured that I could train in the forest a bit. I need to prepare for the next big event happening next month.

-

After several hours of hunting in the forest, I went ahead and called it a day. I already finished my hunt a while ago, I just had to finish cleaning up the meats and separating everything. Looking at the sun, it must of been around lunch time.

Before leaving, I check my stats. I wanted to see how much XP I gained. I pulled up my player interface and looked at all the tabs available.

The tabs are:

'Inventory'

'Player Info'

'Armor & Weapons'

'Quests'

'Skills'

'Friends & Guild'

The tab I wanted to see was 'Player Info'. This tab not only showed my character's attributes but also how much XP I gained and in which skill I gained it in. It also shows what new skills I unlocked. I press on it and it opens up. The 'Player Info' tab itself was split into two different tabs.

One tab was 'Character Attributes' while the other was 'Character Activities'. I select 'Character Attributes' first. I wanted to see if my character level went up or not.

Character Name: Romeo

Registered Name: Roman

Character Level: 5 (+3)

* 1000 xp until the next level

HP: 256 (+45)

MP: 210 (+7)

Attack: 168 (+50)

Stamina: 200 (+35)

Defense: 120 (+15)

Agility: 150 (+45)

Boosts: +100 to all attributes (Ring of Deus). Double XP (Ring of Deus)

I couldn't help but be happy with the attributes. I've gained a lot in one session. I back out and check on my 'Skills' tab. I need to see what level they all were.

The skills were put into alphabetical order:

This was good. I gained a lot of combat related levels too. These skills will be useful once the game comes to the real world.

Finally satisfied, I made my way towards the town.

-

As I returned to town, I could see that they were almost done preparing for the festival. After talking to a few NPC, I figured out that the festival officially starts at 4, I had 3 hours to kill so I guess I could do a quest and try to finish it before then.

Making my way through the town, I head towards the only place that I could sell my loot for a decent profit.

The Adventure's Guild.

I just needed to register myself and I could sell any loot I have, no questions asked.

The guild was built in the town square, so it wasn't a problem trying to located it. It was the fanciest building around. The building was made of a clean white marble stone with golden accents that brought out the marble even more.

As I walk up to the door, I take in a deep breath.

"I hope I don't run into any trouble. It's to early in the game to be making enemies."

Once I finish preparing myself, I walk in through the beautiful doors. As I walk in, I look around to see what the inside looked like.

The inside was reminiscent of a tavern. There was loud music playing and rowdy drunk people. There was men sharing stories of their battles and women gossip about the hottest topic in town. There was even children playing.

A lot of these people were NPC but some were actually players too. These players were talking to the NPC and guild staffs. I'm guessing they were hoping that someone could offer a surprised quest for them.

I go ahead and ignore them. I walk up to the one line that wasn't long and waited for my turn.

While waiting, I hear some NPC close by talking about something that shocked me.

"Yeah man. Did you hear? They found another child in the forest. He was found in the same way as the rest of them, pale and completely drained of all the blood in his body!"

"What? Again?! When will that damn mayor do something! It's his damn job to protect us ya know!"

When those two guys finished talking, I was surprised by what happened next. My player interface opens up and automatically takes me to the 'Quests' tab. A new quest had appeared after I overheard the two men. The quest read:

~Confronting the Mayor~

Quest Details: You overhear two men talk about a horrific event. As the hero, you wish to get to the bottom of it. Confront the mayor in front of 5 other people (min.) and forcefully get answers from him.

Time Limit: One Day

Reward: +1 level to all current skills

Will you accept?

"It's already happening…"

This was the quest that marked the beginning of the first major in game event! All players are forced to stay within the territory of the town at the beginning of the game. It wasn't until the first major event that players were finally able to leave and explore the entire continent and even the other great continents!

The only problem was…

"It's not suppose to happen until February.. in the real world…"

Something is pushing the quest forward and we the players will be forced to take part in the event sooner! Some players won't be prepared in time.

-

A/N: DAMN. I can't wait to finish up all the info dump. I believe I already explained how skills are gained so now I need to explain what each character attributes does. I will also need to show how our MC compares to other players as well as a few other things. Once these things are complete I can begin to show you guys the world and it's history.
