Chapter 9 - The Big Bad Wolf

It was a lot darker than Kameron thought it would be. The treetops were dense and only a few rays of light broke through the canopy of leaves. This forest looked similar to the one Sam and him had woke up in. 'We're gonna die. Have you not noticed?' Apep said. Kameron sighed. The snake god had been pestering him for the past few minutes.

"Apep we are fine. There's nothing here." But even so, Kameron couldn't shake the feeling that something or someone was watching him.

'Someone.' Apep said. He sounded annoyed. "What do you mean?" Kameron asked stopping for a second. He heard the god sigh and his presence gradually disappear from his mind. 'Remind me to teach you how to sense auras if we survive this.' With that the god was silent. "Apep?" Kameron called quietly. "Please don't leave me." But Apep did not answer. Stifling a whimper of fear Kameron kept going forward, his eyes darting around, scanning the darkness for any movement.

He really should have asked Sam or Zach to come with him. But too late now...

"Stupid forest." Kameron muttered. Suddenly he lurched forward and he felt excruciating pain in his ankle as he tumbled forward. There was a steep drop here and as Kameron fell hitting rocks and trees he realized that maybe he should have listened to his reptilian friend.

Joel was confused. Very much so. There was way too much going on. One minute he's out hunting near the school and then suddenly he catches this delectable scent and of course he follows it. When he reached the village he was even more confused. They hated him calling him a demon wolf. Told stories of how he prowled the woods. It wasn't his fault. He was hungry! A wolf had to eat...

And speaking of...

The boy...The black haired one. He had smooth looking light brown skin and curly black hair. He looked kinda short. But then again it might just be because Joel was too big. But he looked like a half elf but he had no pointy ears...But the one thing that captivated him was the massive magical aura pouring off the boy...Joel could almost taste it. And a part of him wanted to taste the boy too. So who could blame him if he followed the boy into the forest next to the village.

He was content with just watching him. But the boy seemed to be talking to himself which really confused him. But no matter. He was still pretty. And he smelled nice. Then Joel saw the boy trip and fall down a steep hill and a part of him almost leapt out of the shadows to catch the boy.

But hoping to observe him more he stayed hidden.

When he reached the bottom of the hill the boy was lying on his back groaning. Those sounds were a little too...enticing. Maybe a closer look wouldn't hurt...he stalked out of the shadows and approached the boy. When he was only a few feet away did the boy notice him. With a cute yelp the boy scrambled away. He tried to get up but cried out and collapsed. Ah, his ankle was swollen. Probably sprained.

"Please don't eat me..." The boy whispered. Joel almost scoffed at the notion. Maybe he would take a bite or two later but for now his mate's safe-wait, wait, wait...mate?

Mate.

Mate.

Mate.

The boy was his mate! Wait, how do you court your mate? Wait this isn't how he imagined this would go...

Joel stepped closer and the boy whimpered and closed his eyes expecting to be bitten and killed. But instead Joel opened his jaws and licked the boy. He continued to do so messing up the boys hair. The boy was surprised for a second before he started giggling. "S-Stop that! That tickles!" He laughed.

But Joel did not stop. Actually the boy tasted kinda nice. Finally after the boy was on the ground struggling to breathe as he laughed did Joel relent.

The boy sat up smiling. "I thought you were gonna eat me." Joel snorted. Why would he eat this tiny human?

Joel stepped forward and sat down next to the boy. They sat there for a few moments in comfortable silence. "So do you have a name?" The boy asked. "I'm Kameron."

Kameron.

Oh, how Joel wanted to say that name. Stupid wolf snout. "I know. I'll call you...Tempest." Joel turned to stare at the boy before huffing and laying down. "No complaint huh? Tempest it is."

"You know you are a lot bigger than any normal wolf I've seen. Your shoulder is like up to my elbow." Kameron said smiling. Joel huffed again before rolling over almost crushing the poor boy. "Oi! Stop that!" He shouted. Joel did though he found the boy's protesting funny.

Why was he listening to this boy like a dog would listen to a master? He didn't like it but deep down he knew he would do anything for him. Maybe even suicidally. Or not.

Joel suddenly tensed hearing shouts from the village. Ah, they were looking for Kameron. "Oh. It seems like I have to go. But I'll be back, ok?" Kameron got up and began walking away. Joel whined and bumped into him. "Stop. I have to leave." Kameron said, annoyed.

Joel growled and bit part of Kameron's robe and pulled almost making the boy fall. "I said stop!" Kameron shouted and Joel flinched. He lowered himself, whining and flattening his ears. He didn't want to make his mate angry. He just wanted him to stay. Kameron sighed. "I'm sorry for yelling. But I'll be back I promise. Now stay Tempest!" Kameron said before jogging into the trees. Joel whined again. Maybe he would see him later. Maybe. For now he could be happy with the scrap of cloth he had torn from Kameron's robe. It smelled like him so...

It was probably time for class. With that Joel walked over to a tree and disappeared into its shadow.
