It was a disaster. A complete utter disaster. Kameron had walked into the huge auditorium, determined to make his mark on this world. To prove that a person's magic didn't define them. What he wasn't expecting was for Apep to cause a little spectacle.
JIa had led him and Sam over to the right side of the Main Hall where hundreds of new students sat, waiting to be tested for their magical attribute. "Just sit here until your name is called." Jia said before leaving to sit with a large group of similarly dressed students to their left. Kameron assumed that these were Balance students. And Zach had gone to sit with Order students.
"Attention, all students. I welcome you to Xalladdiem, School of Magic. I am your headmaster and Head Of Order, Sophilicles."
A loud voice boomed. The hall quieted and all attention was directed to the stage in the middle of the circular room. There stood multiple adults. In the middle was a tall blond haired man. Kameron squirmed in both nervousness and excitement. But something about the man threw him off. In more ways than one.
'Stay away from him. He's dangerous.' Apep snapped. Kameron could feel the god's annoyance within.
'Sure. But why?' Kameron asked.
'He's an order user. He hates Chaos. I can feel it. Just…stay away from him.'
Kameron sighed but agreed to stay away from the man.
"Now we will begin testing. If your name is called please step up."
With that they began. Names were called and people were sorted into their respective Attributes. Soon enough it was Sam's turn.
"Samira Singh." The Headmaster called. Sam swallowed and squeezed Kameron's hand before she slowly made her way over to the stage where a large glass ball sat suspended in midair.
"Please place your hand on the orb."
Sam obliged, placing her palm on the surface of the orb. Almost instantly the orb glowed a soft blue and Kameron could vaguely hear the sound of running water.
"Attribute: Destruction! Subclass: Water!" The headmaster shouted. Sam grinned as the Destruction students cheered. She walked over and joined them. Kameron clapped and wooped as loud as everyone else.
And then it was his turn.
"Kameron Lejoe."
Kameron sighed and got up making his way to the stage.
'Calm down. Too much emotion will make this worse.'
Kameron frowned. 'That's so helpful, Apep.' He snapped as they reached the stage. The snake cackled.
"Please place your hand on the orb." Sophilicles said. Kameron slowly reached out, hesitating. With a deep breath he touched the orb. nothing happened. Kameron frowned, shifting uncomfortably. "Um...." He muttered. He could see the other teachers frowning.
"Maybe I should...." Before he could take his hand off the orb, it exploded. A swirling mass of red and black magic emerged from the destroyed orb blowing everyone near it off their feet. It cackled and took the form of a snake.
The hall erupted in screams and shouts of help as people stampeded for the exits. "Please remain calm!" A large redheaded man shouted. The teachers instantly began throwing magic at the snake but it laughed again, unphased, before rushing towards Kameron enveloping him. "No!" Sophilicles shouted.
Too late.
The magic began to seep into Kameron and he screamed as his head burst in pain. He could feel Apep screaming with him, only the snake god was screaming in pure joy. Then it was over. Kameron fell to the floor, his vision slowly fading away. What had just happened?
He could hear students screaming, teachers yelling for help as warm hands picked him up. Then it all faded to black.
The heads of magic had reconvened in Sophilicles' office sometime later. It was silent. "So…Care to explain why the fuck chaos magic was sealed inside the orb?" Karl, one of the order teachers asked. The headmaster sighed. "I am unsure. BUt it is obvious now that the boy has a Chaos attribute." He said. Sana, Head of Balance placed a hand over her mouth in shock and other teachers murmured in surprise.
"So what do we do?" She asked.
"We get rid of him." Sophilicles snapped. As the head of Order no one hated Chaos magic more than him.
Tyran, head of Destruction frowned. "No. We will not harm the boy. We can still teach him."
Sophilicles laughed. "It does not matter. Chaos cannot be trusted. You know what happened with the last Chaos student. We cannot make the same mistake." Tyran shook his head an crossed his arms.
"I refuse to hurt a child due to your biased opinions!" He snarled. Sana cleared her throat. "I agree. I think we should teach him. It would be beneficial. We can prevent something like what happened last time from happening again." She said. Sophilicles was silent. With a sigh he waved his hand.
"2 months. I give him 2 months. If no incident has occurred within that timeslot than he can stay." He muttered.
Tyran smiled and Sana clapped.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Someone asked. Out of the shadows glided Malach, a vampire and Head of Shadow.
Sana glared at him.
"Yes. We can teach him." She snapped. She had always hated the vampire not only due to his personality but how he always seemed to debate everything she or others said.
"Enough." Sophilicles snapped. "You are all dismissed." The teachers filed out of the room and Sophilicles sat down at his desk and placed his head in his hands, He sighed. God, he was so tired. And now he had to deal with a Chaos student on top of it all. But it did not matter. The boy would mess up and Sophilicles would be able to get rid of him.
In the infirmary Sam, Zach, and Jia sat beside one of the medical beds where Kameron slept peacefully. It was silent. Finally, someone spoke. "So…did you know?" Zach asked Sam. She glared at him, his hold on Kameron's hand tightening. "No. I didn't. But that doesn't change anything."
Jia frowned, her tail swishing nervously.
"I know he's your friend Sam but he's dangerous. You have to be careful." She said. Sam laughed. "He wouldn't hurt me. Why are you guys here if you're gonna judge me and him?" She asked. "We do care, Sam." Zach said softly. It was silent after that. Suddenly Kameron groaned, his eyes opening slowly.
"Kameron!" Sam shouted, launching herself at him and hugging him tightly. Kameron coughed, the air knocked out of him. "Nice to see you too. What happened?" He asked, noticing Zach and Jia by the bedside.
The two exchanged a look before looking back at Kameron. "Well, you're a Chaos user for one." Zach said, shrugging.
Kameron frowned. Right. The Main Hall. The Attribute Orb. "Can…you guys leave for a sec? Please?" He asked. Sam shook her head. "Absolutely not. I'm not leaving you alone." She snapped. Kam glared at her. "Sam! Please." She crossed her arms for a few seconds before relenting. "Fine. But holler if you need anything." She said, squeezing his hand one last time before leaving. Zach waved as he left while Jia gave him what he assumed was supposed to be a comforting smile.
'Apep. We need to talk.' Kameron thought. The snake stirred. 'Of course. Come in.'
Kameron closed his eyes and relaxed. When he opened them again he was back at the huge Yggdrasil.
Apep sat on one of the branches in front of him.
"So care to explain what the fuck happened?" Kameron asked, sitting down next to the snake.
Apep sighed. "When I was sealed centuries ago, the rest of the gods split my soul into pieces. You had the largest piece. It seemed another piece had been sealed inside that orb. And when you touched it, it reacted." The snake explained. Kameron looked up at the glowing leaves of the tree in thought.
"So if you get all the pieces your soul and power will be restored?" He asked. Apep nodded. "Don't worry. I won't leave you Kam. I like you. You are the most interesting human I've met." The snake god said, brushing his shoulder against Kameron's. Kam smiled.
"Thanks. But everyone knows what we are now."
Apep laughed. "So what? We have the power to destroy them all. Anyone gets in our way we will demolish them."
Kameron glared at the snake.
"No demolishing." He snapped. Apep grinned, a little embarrassed, something he wasn't used to.
"I think now would be a great time for you to start teaching me what you know. Just in case, I mean." Kameron said. Apep smiled, fangs glinting in the light of the tree. "Of course. Let us start simple. With just summoning your power in general."
Kameron smiled and nodded. He watched, fascinated as Apep flicked his wrist a wave of red energy emerging from his fingers enveloping the world around them. WIth a boom the red disappeared and Kameron found himself staring at a giant stone circle on the ground surrounded by red grass.
"Whoa." He whispered. "You'll learn that eventually." Apep said."Now concentrate. Try to just summon a little magic within your palm."
Kameron sighed and closed his eyes. He reached within and concentrated on his outstretched palm. He felt a small spark of…something in his hand but it sputtered and disappeared. He took a deep breath and tried again. This time the spark stayed. As he opened his eyes he glanced at his hand which was glowing red.
"Amazing." He whispered slowly, turning his hand and the red magic glided over his skin. It felt warm and Kameron? He loved it. He wanted more of it.
Who said power was a bad thing? If anything, he wanted nothing but chaos. And if chaos reigned would that be so bad?
