After the wicked announcement given by the man in the sky called Laurius Rein, people had stopped running. It was obvious to everyone now, there was no point in running, for there was nowhere to run to.
They planned on killing us all, it didn't matter how much we tried to run, or how fast we could run, as the evil man had said, we were all bound to die.
So everyone just sat around, on the street floors, on top demolished buildings, anywhere they could rest their shaking legs. Everyone had accepted their fates.
Some were busy tying up their wounds, while others sat there watching burning buildings and vehicles. Others like us who still remembered their families were trying to reach them.
Since the evil man in the sky didn't give us any specifics, no one knew where the so called portals would be opening, we could only let our minds wonder, and our bodies wait.
"Skye," I called.
"Hmm?"
"Isn't that Janet?" I pointed and her eyes and head turned to look at the body of a girl not so far from us. Her legs were cut off and her neck bent backwards. She was dead.
"Oh Lords! Shit, it is Janet." Skye whispered.
"Damn, she was good with skirts," I stated.
"Yeah, she really knew how to design all kinds of them,"
"She was better than us."
"Way better. She was the best."
"That could have been us on the floor." Skye's eyes opened wider as I said those words.
"Oh no, Kiva, please don't say stuff like that. My body is still shaking, and I'm just trying to pretend that seeing all these bodies around doesn't affect me, but it does. And I don't want to freak out, and stress you out, so please don't say stuff like that."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to freak you out." I quickly apologized. "I'm not in my right mind either. I can't get a hold of mum, or the boys, or Kira, I'm just sincerely scared too."
"Hah, Kiva Quin, scared? Fear doesn't go well with your name." She joked.
"But don't worry, as tough as you are, your family is tougher. I'm the only softy here," she shrugged and I laughed.
"So I'm sure they're all going to be fine, they're probably trying to reach you now too. So chin up Kiva Quin, I'm counting on you so I can survive."
"Yeah, I need to get my sugar-coated bestie out of this madness." I nodded and the distorted sound of my phone ringing in my pocket made me jerk.
"This phone is super strong to still be ringing." Skye joked as I frantically tried to pull it out with my fidgeting fingers.
"It sure is." I laughed dryly.
"Hello, mum?"
"Ah, Kiva, thank God you're alright. Oh baby, thank God you're okay." Maybe it was the speaker of the phone, or the network itself, but mom's voice wasn't very clear. It came in cracks and extra echoes, but we could hear her. I could hear the fear in her voice.
"Oh, Skye? How about Skye? Is she alright too?" She asked
"I'm here Alice. I'm fine." Skye assured her.
"We're both fine, mom." I nodded.
"Ah, thank God."
"Mum, what about Kyle and Karl? Are they alright? What of Kira? Did you find her? Is she alright?"
"Hey Skye. Sis, for once it's actually nice to hear your voice."
"Yeah, I knew you wouldn't get blown up, and Skye still sounds sexy even when the world is ending." I laughed at his words, Karl was still as crazy as ever, even when the world was ending, he still tried to flirt with Skye. Still tried to sound cool, but I could hear the fright in his voice, in both their voices.
"Hah! Kyle, Karl, you dimwits." I laughed at the words that my brothers spoke.
"What about Kira?" I asked "Let me talk to her too, I want to know if she ran in a girly style or if she threw her Barbie girl lifestyle away and ran like a cheetah. HAH!"
Kira always said that; ``Running isn't girly. Girls are meant to catwalk, not run, and if a girl should ever have to run, then she has to do it in the most girly manner possible.`` Those were the words Kira used to say, and I always told her that when the need arose, she would run faster than a cheetah.
Who would have known that such a horrible situation would make everyone run beyond their capability?
What followed my questions was silence. Cold, painful heart-aching silence. The kind that would have your mind wandering to different horrifying directions, and make your entire body shiver because of the multiple conclusions your head was drawing… that kind of silence.
"M_ mum, what's wrong? Why aren't you answering?" I asked as I noticed the unnerving silence.
"Mum, mum talk to me! Where is Kira? Mum! Why are you so quiet? What happened, where is—"
"I don't know," came the voice of my mom. "She had gone to the beach earlier on with her friends. When all this started, she had called me that there were people who were after them, and while she was still talking, something happened, I don't know what. But the line got disconnected. I've been trying to reach her since and I can't."
My body trembled. My vision blurred as tears welled up in my eyes. My palm covered my mouth, trying to muffle my whimpers.
"I was going to find her, but our car got blown up and so did other cars and buses. Walking all the way to the beach takes about six hours. We've been walking for hours, trying to hide from those monsters above us, hoping to see her coming toward us too, but we still haven't seen Kira. We have no idea where she is. Now we—"
"World 599, it is time."
