Chapter 14 - Hunting I

As Flock looked over his stats, he heard everyone else in the room begin to murmur and ask questions but he just ignored them.

'I don't know if these stats are good. I can't go around asking since I would draw attention. I need to calm everyone down first.' Flock thought as he stood up from the corner he was in.

He knew that this system thing would surely make everyone here more powerful so he wanted to control the situation.

'If they all choose crafter classes hoping the rest of us to protect them, we'll be sitting ducks.' Flock thought as he looked around the room.

The murmur had now grown into a noisy mess around the room as the people had begun to panic. Honestly, Flock's heart was racing too but it wasn't out of anxiety or fear but excitement instead.

"Everyone quiet down!" Flock suddenly shouted as soon as he reached the center of the hospital ward they were in. All the students and even the adults in the room turned and looked towards him.

The noisy room soon fell silent as everyone's gaze was drawn Flock.

"Have any of you not received the floating screen?" Flock asked as he stepped up onto one of the beds. He asked the question like this since he assumed most had received the screen.

It would make the majority of the people keep quiet since they had the screen and make things way easier to handle.

"This is similar to a book I read before. There was a scene with the characters in the exact same situation we are in now," he lied. He rarely read any fiction books but that didn't mean he didn't read any.

"The warrior class focuses on physical damage. Think of stuff like swords, bows and daggers. So you'll easily get a weapon and be able to defend yourself and friends." He added as everyone's attention was drawn to his words.

"B-bows? Is that some kind of joke? If guns don't work how are arrows supposed to work?" One of the students yelled. He was wearing a different uniform and was on the other side of the room. He and his friends looked to be the popular kind so Flock knew that if he answers it badly he would lose control.

'Ok nothing I can't fix but that kid is gonna be a problem,' Flock thought as he looked at the guy.

"Yes bows, it's better than using fists. Or are you saying you can make bullets once they run out? You think you can get enough guns to supply all of us?" Flock responded. He expected such a question so he thought of the answer beforehand.

"We shouldn't be stingy with what we arm ourselves with. Just know that none of us knows a single thing about magic as of now so if you choose it, make sure your smart enough to learn spells on your own." Flock added once the student who had questioned him earlier had failed to come up with a retort.

"If you don't want to fight, you can pick the crafter class. You'll have to find someone to protect you though since you won't be as strong as everyone else." Flock added in a kind but threatening tone. "Now please choose your classes. We don't know if the the screen will disappear."

Flock was internally jumping up and down with excitement since he could already see his words affect everyone as they chose their class. He wasn't sure if they could be changed later on but he really didn't care.

'With this, there will be a ton of meat shields.' Flock thought internally as he moved from the center of the ward and went towards his sister, Miya.

In a village not too far from Rarden

"Hurry up Winsor we don't have all day," Miss Aiko said as she started back at Winsor. He was still handing his horse over to the stable boy who was going to care for their horses.

They had travelled out of the city to the nearby forest for their training. As Winsor expected, they didn't bring any servants or food besides the one they packed the day before. They travelled from morning till high noon but there was a comfortable breeze blowing through the empty fields that bordered the forest so the rde was pleasant.

"Are we going camping? We haven't brought a tent and it takes half a day to reach here by horse." Lukart asked as he followed Miss Aiko up the rough forest path. Winsor wasn't far behind and was listening in on their conversation.

"We are, don't worry I'll teach you how to survive." Miss Aiko replied. She was carrying three spears and a large bag on her back. The two boys tried to take them from her earlier but she insisted on keeping them.

The three kept on walking through the forest as the trees became more crowded and the path rougher. She taught them the different ways on how to collect water and food in the forest and what things to avoid.

There were poison mushrooms and vibrant looking flowers that she taught them to avoid. There were also some animals that she taught them how to catch.

One of them was a raptor like bird that was the size of a chicken. She sprung a trap and showed the two how they worked. Lukart was amazed at the different things since he often never went out of the amor like this.

Once the basic survival skills were taught, she taught them basic spear techniques like thrusting, blocking and slashing. The slashing bit was what interested Winsor the most since he only knew of the first two.

"What's most important about spears is their center of weight. If you learn to control your spear's center, you'll always exert much more force than you put in." Miss Aiko explained as she spun her spear.

She let the two of them practice with their spears till they got the basics down. She even taught them how to activate skills but neither of the boys managed to do so.

Since there wasn't much daylight remaining, Miss Aiko decided to continue with the hike even though Winsor and Lukart were getting tired.

"We are coming up to one of my favorite spots," she said as she slowed down a bit. Lukart was out of breath due to the length hike and couldn't even push himself to ask any questions.

Winsor was behind him but wasn't fairing much better either. He had taken notes about what to eat and what to do on a paper he had managed to get from the manor.

"What do you think?" Miss Aiko said with a big grin as she passed some bushes ahead.

'What could be so good that'll make her grin like tha- Woah,' Winsor thought as he passed the bushes. The view he was seeing was nothing short of beautiful.

They were on the top of a massive cliff that rose far above a massive alpine forest that sprawled across tens of hills into the mountains.

The mountains that once seemed so far were now just before his eyes. He could see various peaks and even the summit of the mountain if he squinted form where he was.

"Wow," Lukart said while looking at the sight before him. He was speechless and couldn't think of what else to say.

"OK we are taking a break. We are going to eat then set up." Miss Aiko said as she put down her bag. She removed bottles of water and some of the premade sandwiches she seemed to have prepared before the trip. She handed them the sandwiches and two very expensive looking amulets she pulled out from her pocket.

"What's this for?" Winsor asked as he put on the amulet. Lukart did the same and turned towards Miss Aiko while looking for an answer too.

"It is to help protect you. Not from hits though." Miss Aiko replied as she sat down and began eating her sandwich. The two were confused by her answer but they didn't think much of it though as they started eating.

"How are we going to set up camp? We didn't bring any tents or anything." Lukart asked as he finished his sandwich.

"Oh? We aren't camping, you two are going to hunt monsters, 10 each." Miss Aiko said with a matter-of-fact voice. She didn't even pause eating while she ate.

"What?? It's getting late, we can't fight in the dark!" Lukart responded as he stood up quickly. He and Winsor hadn't put down their bags so he was thrown a bit off balance when he stood up.

"Yeah you will, don't worry. I'll come get you if I think your in danger. Until then, each of you needs to hunt or else this'll be your new home." Miss Aiko said as she finished eating.

Winsor was also confused at this turn of events since he wasn't expecting to fight at night time. He also stood up and went beside Miss Aiko.

"We are exhausted and barely know how to use a spear let alone hunt!" Winsor said. Miss Aiko didn't react at all and looked as though she didn't care at all.

"I already taught you both of those, so-" She said before opening her palm. A large ball of wind was concentrated in her palm before she launched it towards Winsor and Lukart.

voosh!

The wind blast hit them directly and it pushed them straight off the cliff.

"-go and do as I told you." She finished her sentence as Winsor and Lukart's screams of sheer terror could be heard slowly disappearing down the side of the cliff.
