Chapter 16 - Hunted

Winsor quickly rushed towards the goblin corpse. The spear had gone deep within its head and the scene wasn't one anyone would like to see before eating.

'This can't be real'

There were tens of goblin foot prints all around the area of the dead body. Some of them were far larger than those of this goblin which meant that there were even stronger goblins out there.

He was lucky that he managed to one shot this one but he knew that he couldn't really put his survival on luck all the time. He moved closer to the grotesque corpse and bent down to retrieve his spear.

He grabbed the long wooden pole that was logged deep within the head of the goblin and pulled with his whole body. He tugged at it but the goblins body followed since the spear was stuck on its head.

'I don't have much time, if one is here, there should be more nearby,' Winsor thought before placing his foot on the goblins head and putting more force on the spear handle.

Squish!

The spear came right out and the goblins foot was crushed under his shoe. Its insides were thrown all around the area and his foot.

Before he could recoil in disgust, he heard something run out of the cave hurriedly. He turned and prepared his spear towards the cave entrance. He then remembered that Lukart was in the cave so he pointed his spear away form the entrance so that he doesn't accidentally harm his new friend.

"Winsor! look!" Lukart finally came out of the small cave while cupping his hands. He had finally managed to awaken his affinity. A small earth ball surrounded by a thin bubble of water was floating just above his hands.

Lukart had a wide grin on his face and was about to start asking how to increase his control over the floating orb before Winsor raised his hand and pointed at the dead goblin.

"Gross, is that a goblin? the stories my mom to me said they were ugly but this is completely disgusting," Lukart said while wrinkling his nose at the horrible sight. "Where did you even find this thing? They move in groups so if they came here we should start moving."

"I was outside here experimenting with my affinity then this thing tried to sneak up on me so I killed it."

"It wasn't that strong but I really think we should get going since these are an awful lot of footprints around here." Winsor said as he moved towards the cave.

Swoosh!

Just as he started walking, an arrow flew by the area his head was just a second ago. Winsor saw this and quickly turned towards the direction where the arrow flew from.

Lukart quickly run back to the cave to pick his spear since e he knew he would be able to fight if he didn't have a weapon. Winsor was distracted by this and looked back at the retreating Lukart.

'I guess you should always have your weapon with you when in the wild- Ahhhhhhh' Winsor thought as another arrow shook him from his thoughts.

It flew from a slightly different direction and landed on the side of his left arm. It was a crude arrow made of sticks and stones so it didn't go very deep. That said, it still hurt a lot.

Winsor pulled the arrow out and inspected the wound. It didn't come out cleanly as the stone head had broken into bits in his wound. His arm was in severe pain but he could still move it somewhat.

The bushes rustled again and this time two goblins came out from the dark bushes. This time, one of them had a short stone sword while another had an old looking bow. It was loading another arrow in the back as the first goblin approached Winsor.

Winsor started to take a few steps back knowing that if he charged into this fight, he would get shot by the second goblin.

He was starting to wonder where Lukart was since he had already taken a while in the cave.

'No, I won't always have someone to have my back.' Winsor thought at he tightened his grip on the spear. He let out a deep breath then tensed his body.

The sword goblin kept on creeping closer and closer seemingly aware that Winsor wasn't an easy enemy. It kept on looking into Winsor's focused orange eyes as it slowly inched forward.

Winsor suddenly lunged forward into a thrust and caught the goblin off guard. It thought it was still out of the spear range but Winsor's forward lunge change things.

The second goblin couldn't fire its arrow since the sword goblin was blocking its way. It could've tried shooting above the sword goblin since Winsor was taller but it could no longer see him since he had dropped down in an attempt to thrust at the sword goblin.

The sword goblin was startled only for a few seconds then dodged out of the path of the on coming spear. Luckily for Winsor, those few seconds had allowed him to land the spear deep within the goblins side.

The goblins movement only made things worse since it cause the spear blade to cut through the side and exit its body.

[|Critical hit]

This was heavy blow but now there was nothing stopping the second goblin from shooting at Winsor.

It quickly prepared to fire another arrow at Winsor who was in not position to dodge. Winsor thought he was going to be hit so he braced himself and closed his eyes expecting a world of pain.

Swoosh!

Thump!

The pain he was expecting didn't come so Winsor opened his eyes only to see the second goblin impaled on a spear.

"Whew, I luckily came back in time." Lukart said as he quickly run up to Winsor who was still braced for impact.

"Thanks, I was in a tight spot there," Winsor replied as he let out a sigh of relief. Lukart just smiled in return and walked up to get his spear from the the now dead impaled goblin.

"I think we should leave, fast. They are weak on their own but rather dangerous in groups." Winsor said as he stood up and finished off the sword goblin.

Lukart agreed as he picked up his spear. He turned and finally noticed Winsor's bleeding arm.

"Why don't you activate the amulet and heal your arm?" Lukart said with a puzzled look.

"Activate the amulet? What are you talking about?"

"Just inject a bit of mana and it'll cast a healing spell. Wait you can't appraise it?" Lukart asked as his face fell into confusion.

Winsor was more confused than Lukart since he didn't have the appraisal skill.

'Is it normal for people here to have an appraisal skill?' Winsor thought before memories of the body flared up in his mind again.

From what he could see in the memories, the appraisal skill was quite rare for combat classes but not unheard of. Many people that had this skill were craftsmen like blacksmiths and alchemists so Winsor was wondering how Lukart had the appraisal skill.

"I don't have the appraisal skill, but we should get going, I don't think these are the last of the goblins." Winsor responded as he looked at Lukart.

"R-right," Lukart responded as though he had made a mistake and began running in the opposite way from where the goblins came from.
