That was the horror image that welcomed Eder, Freya, Matt, Khan and Emmett when they entered the cave cell. Eder's breath caught in his throat like everyone's. None of them wanted to believe that it was her. His brain stuttered while his feet subconsciously rushed him over to his wife's body and his arms wrapped around her to gather her in his arms.
"Dahlia" he called breathlessly assessing her all over and shook her to get a response. Her eyes were still slightly opened but there was no response. Her body was cold in his arms. His eyes fell upon the hole that was left gaping in her chest and he froze. It was empty, her heart was there no more. He subconsciously reached out his trembling hand to touch it, to know if it was real but he couldn't. He couldn't bring himself to. Then the realization of the truth dawned on him. Her heart was ripped out and now she was dead.
