Chapter 13 - Project: Orion Rising

All of the Heroes returned to the American command post in Italy and arrive to find Gerneral Dozier and Holland awaiting them.

Dozier said, "Ah come in. There is someone here who would like to speak to you."

Suddenly, a familiarly horrible, raspy voice shot out from behind them. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I would love for you to meet Project Orion!"

The worst part was that they recognized the horrible voice as that of the Red Skull! Before they could gain a grasp of their situation, the Red Skull and 10 Nazi German soldiers had machine guns trained on them, as well as did general Dozier!

Deciding to eliminate the Invaders before the German's big counter-offensive, to guarantee they could not fight alongside the Allied Forces, Red Skull had opted to play his trump card -- A Hypno-washed General Dozier. Dozier had snuck Red Skull and his accompanying platoon into the base just over an hour before the return of the two hero teams, while everything was quiet (Most of the American soldiers were away preparing for the upcoming battle). Red Skull, his men, and General Dozier then all began opening fire on the two hero teams.

After readily and ably defending themselves against the men and the traitor Dozier, Red Skull began to realize that things were not going as he had planned. He then began to flee, making it out of the General's command tent, and heading straight for an American supply truck. Once in the truck he sped off towards German border lines. There were no other vehicles available to give chase, and given that he traveled at 70mph while his soldiers futilely fought on, he easily escaped.

After the Heroes defeated most of the nazis, General Dozier fell unconscious. When he awoke he was unable to remember any of the events from the past several days. He seemed to be released from the effects of the Hypno-wash, and free of the Nazi mind-control.

After the fight, The invaders then requested that the Young Avengers stay with them to aid in the upcoming battle to quell the counter-offensive.

By this time, Captain America had begun to deduce that the Young Avengers were "from the future". He insisted they stay a short while longer to participate in the battle against the nazis, to help the Allies and to maintain the continuity of history. He suggested that the Young Avengers even wear some of the Orphu cloaking-bracelets to disguise them from the prying and curious eyes of war correspondents and historians.

Reading about the upcoming engagement in Crane's historical record book, Wiccan discovered the following bit of text: "...The Allied Forces pulled a victory from nowhere when a small contingent of soldiers garbed in strange red and blue regalia showed up to turn the Nazis back…"

He deduced that they were supposed to be a part of the historic conflict, one of the turning points of the war, and if they chose to do otherwise, their own future could be so radically altered that the "recall: button in their Time-machine would have no clear destination.
