Chapter 4 - Four

EVELYN POV

"Let's get married" Liam said looking at me with no emotion while I just stood there like a fool.

I was on my way home to grab some things for mom when I saw him standing in front of the hospital. I wanted to believe that he had something to do here and was about to pretend I didn't see him when he walked up to me and demanded to talk in private.

I didn't want to cause a scene so I followed him to this high end restaurant where we were now seated in a private room and the first thing he blurted out is we should get married.

"Are you crazy? What's all this all of a sudden?" My eyes were wide in disbelief but could you blame me? Who proposes to one just like that?

"I know you are pregnant with the child and I am ready to take responsibility for it, that's why I want us to get married at least on contract for a year" He was so calm as he spoke like he wasn't talking about something big.

"How did you find out I was pregnant?" I didn't even tell mom yet so no one was supposed to know

"I have my sources"

"What if it's not yours? It could be anyone else's" I sputtered at the audacity of this man.

"We both know it's mine so skip these excuses you're trying to come up with. I don't want you terminating my child Evelyn"

"Fuck you Liam. I wasn't going to terminate MY baby. I already planned to give birth to this baby but you will have nothing to do with my baby okay?" I was boiling with rage that he thought he could just come and demand marriage.

"If you get married to me, I'll be in charge of your mother's medical bills throughout the year and she'll get the best medical care as well."

"How dare you try to use my mother as a bargaining tool, don't approach me again. My baby nor I want anything to do with you."

I grabbed my purse and stormed out of the restaurant. He was so annoying and I felt like ripping his eyes out.

How did he manage to find out that I was pregnant for him? The only person I told was that lady from the hospital but I doubt she knew Liam and even if she did, I didn't say his name. He really was a sly person.

I admit that at first I was reluctant to keep the baby but I couldn't bear to kill an innocent soul who did no harm. I would keep my baby and do my best to take care of them and mom. I know mom's going to get better soon and she'll also love her grandchild.

I was so lost in thoughts that I didn't realize I went back to the hospital instead of going home. I guess I'll go home another time. I didn't want to stay too long away from mom and I also had to go to work later in the evening as well.

I made my way towards the ward where mom was and stilled at the door. The bed she usually occupied was empty.

I rushed into the room and began searching everywhere like a mad woman but she really wasn't here and neither were her items.

My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach at the thought that something might have happened when I left

I ran towards the receptionist in panic and fear.

"My mom, she isn't in her room. She..she.. she was there when I left so what happened? Did something happen to her? Please tell me where she is?" I was spewing all the questions in my head at once.

"Calm down miss, what's your mother's name?" The nurse at the station asked me

"Juliana Campbell" I rushed out and she started typing something into the system

"Nothing happened Miss Evelyn, your mother has been moved to the special ward. Just take the elevator to the 4th floor and you'll find your mother in room 410" She didn't complete her sentence before I started dashing towards the elevator.

I found the room with ease and ripped the door open. My hands flew to my mouth as I stared around the large room that was bigger than our house.

"Evelyn, come here my love. You didn't tell me you had such a nice person in your life" wait, what? I looked at Mom who had a big smile on her face. I bet she was so comfortable on that bed and it looked really soft too.

"Mom? How come you are here?" I asked confused with the sudden change

"Come and sit first. You have a lot of questions to answer Missy"

I took a seat beside her still in awe of the room and how expensive everything looked. It was the kind of room assigned to VIPs only in dramas.

"I am so disappointed in you Evie. You are pregnant and you didn't even think to tell me, why?" My eyes widened in fear.

"How do you know that mom?"

"Liam told me. He said he was the father of your baby and would like to get married to you but you refused. He changed my room to this one and made sure I got the best medical care. He said he was going to make sure I get better" Mom had such a hopeful smile on her face that I hadn't seen in such a long time.

"Mom it's not that I didn't want to tell you, I didn't want to make you worry and Liam may be the father of my child but I want nothing to do with that man"

"What do you mean? He's such a nice guy. He wants to get married to you and take responsibility. It's not everyday you find a rich guy who impregnate you and wants to marry someone way below his class"

"Mom!!! I would not marry him just because of the money" I gasped.

"I know my dear but what would happen to you if I'm gone? I want you to have someone with you so you won't be alone. If you marry Liam, you'll have him and your baby to keep you company"

"Mom what are you saying? You aren't dying anytime soon. Stop saying that" I scolded her.

"Evie, we both know I'm not doing too well so I don't want to give myself false hope. I want you to be happy. I don't want you to suffer so please, accept his marriage proposal. At least for me"

"I'll think about it" I muttered and the smile on her face broke my heart. I hated saying no to her but I may have to this time.
