And with that, she walked into the principal's office. The principal had congratulated her on her admission and early registration before assigning her to a class teacher who welcomed herand then led her to the class.
Her only prayer as she walked as that she never wanted a male as a seat mate. She knew she couldn't ignore them for long but right now she was basically not in the mood to deal with anyone;basically anyone. Luckily, her seat mate wasn't in class and she was led to her seat and wished a warm welcome by the students but no one seemed to notice her;so she thought and she was satisfied with that.
A quick glance around the class and she saw Phoebe; a friend of Anita whom she met earlier during the previous week. Phoebe waved and smiled at her. Amaya smiled back;a rare infectious smile and walked to seat with her to keep each other company. After collecting some notes, she made to go back to her seat when she saw the back of her seat mate;a male. Her heart sank. She made up her mind to ìgnore him but then he was seating on her seat. Why was fate against her on her first day?
With all the collective coolness and calm she could muster, she said,"Excuse me,you are sitting on my seat."
"Your seat?"The voice turned almost immediately to look. How could this be her seat.
"My seat," she said again.
"Sorry," He said and moved to his seat. For a split second, he was angry. How could he be assigned a seat mate.Well, now that he got one he was determined to be friendly.
"Hi. I'm Leo. Leo Whitley." He introduced." A pleasure to meet your acquaintance."
Amaya ignored him.
He took one of her noebooks." Maya. Amaya Arnold.Nice name."
She ignored him again and he thought he was sounding silly with the way she was ignoring him." How do you like your new class and your seat?"
Amaya turned to face him and he took his time to look at her." Would you mind your business? And besides, why are you wearing my hat?"she asked.
"I...I...it was lovely and I couldn't help it.Sorry."
"You should be." She snapped and had her hat on.
"It looks good on you," Leo commented with a smile.
"Don't be silly. It's my hat. It should look great on me." She said.
That was bad, Leo thought.
"Well..."Leo was saying when Amaya decided that she had had enough.
"Mr Whitley,I'd appreciate if we can have it quiet."
"I was just trying to..."
"I never asked you that."
Leo had flared up." Hey! What the fuck!"
"What? You know I just realised that I don't like my new seat and I would do anything to get changed." At that instant, Leo's memory seemed to start functioning well.
"Please don't leave," He said and walked out. Who was she anyway? He asked himself angrily. But then he chided himself Immediately. She was beautiful; no she was princess charming and he was surprised that her great yet simple and plain beauty could move him or even distract him the very minute he set his eyes on her.
Amaya was tall with a great jet crop of hair; white dazzling teeth and a lovely gap tooth;and most of all, she carried herself with so much ease and beauty that he thought she was some sort of goddess.
Leo on the other hand, was tall with a well built athletic frame, pointed nose and dazzling teeth. What's more; he's got the brains and the looks and the cash and all the girls loved hanging around himand calling him sweet names in an attempt to get his attention and he loved being thè center of attraction of those girls even though he never felt an iota of anything for them.
But Amaya was different. She was the most charming girl he had ever seen. If only she'd give him a chance. He went to seat with his best friend, Ryan Bryan.
"Take a look at the new girl, Ryan. How does she look?"
"You mean Amaya? She's a wow. An angelic being and I'm sure you are lucky to have her as a seatmate".
"She's rude."
"It's her first day, man. Give her time. Besides, you don't judge a book by its cover."
"I mean it. She's horrible despite her great beauty."
"I insist you give her time."
Meanwhile, Amaya was counting the number of pages each notes had that she had to update and sighed. The day was definitely not going on well for her. Leo stood up.
"Now what's up?"Ryan asked.
"Can't you see that she needs help?" He replied a bit irritated.
"Why do you always chase every beautiful girl? That's how a casanova behaves," Ryan muttered.
"What did you just say?" Leo turned angrily.
"Nothing."
"Better still."
"Or better not," Ryan retorted.
"It's none of your business anyway."
"Yeah and I'd pray she gives you an appropriate tongue lashing."
Gnashing his teeth, he walked towards Amaya who was about going out for recess.
"Hi Maya. "Leo greeted.
"Hey Leo," she replied."How may I help you?"
"Well, I came around to see if I could render some assistance."
"To whom if I may ask?"
"You, of course. I'd be delighted to help you with the notes".at that moment, he wished she would agree so that they could start their relationship on the right footing. But with the way she was smiling, what could she be thinking of?
"Look here, Leo, I'd appreciate if everyone leaves me on my own. I've got two perfect working hands, so what makes you think I'm not capable of writing my own ñotes?Besides I'm getting tired of your tiring tirades of speeches and would appreciate if you personally could leave me alone."
Leo stood mouth agape. What the fuck!!!
"You said?"
"I didn't realise you were deaf when I said it. I just said I don't need your help. Get out!!!"
