Chapter 57 - Recuperate #5

"Alright, I'll talk to you later." Henry said as he hung up the phone.

"Is everything alright?" Mnesyne asked although she already heard the call.

"That was Elijah on the phone, he said the Chief was having a meeting with the commanding HPA agent on Kyle's case about taking me off suspension." Henry said, seeming uplifted but had no expression as he continued to look at his phone.

"That's good, maybe it'll help ease your mind on this whole situation." Mnesyne said after she sat up.

"Maybe but it's only being talked about so I wouldn't really get my hopes up." Henry said as he put his phone away on the small desk near the bed.

"You were given a suspension with pay, if they wanted you fired, you wouldn't be getting paid. I hope you get your job back, you should too." Mnesyne said as she picked his head up.

Henry looked Mnesyne in her eyes, giving her the chance to see the small glimpse of light growing in his. "You're right, I do hope I get my job back." A smile slightly appeared on his face as he looked at her.

"Good, it's getting late so why don't we get-" Mnesyne was cut off in surprise as he suddenly hugged her.

Henry hugged Mnesyne tightly, embracing her with everything he felt in exchange for everything he couldn't say. Mother held him back embracing with the love she felt for being unable to tell him the truth.

"Did I choose the wrong career?" His voice trembled.

"…No, you didnt. This was the perfect one, it was your dream wasn't it." Mnesyne said as she squeezed him tightly.

"…Yeah it was." Henry said flatly as he buried his head into her shoulder.

[Village of Blüt]

"He didn't even get to start any of the books." Duchess Aliana said as she stood at the doorway to one of the bedrooms.

"Do you know why he came here?" Aeon asked as he stood next to her.

"It wasn't purposefully, he was found in the river by Reis. According to him, he came from the Kingdom."  Duchess Aliana said as she looked at him.

"The blood rise must've pulled him up the mountain, but is it even strong enough to pull a vampire's entire body?" Aeon asked as he looked at him.

"You think it could've been one of the river dwellers that brought him up the mountain. They probably thought he was a member of this village." Duchess Aliana said as she looked leaned on the door.

"Yeah, I'm gonna check the river. I want to make sure nothing foreign enters and causes problems with any of the other villagers or dwellers." Aeon said as he walked away from them.

"Hmm… make sure you bring some blood back with you. The supplies should be downstairs." Duchess Aliana said as she closed his door. "Be careful, if there is a foreign dweller in the river then it might be angry about its food being stolen."

"If it isn't a foreign dweller then I'm gonna need to find a way to mediate." Aeon said as he walked down the stairs.

Hours had passed and Kyle was still in a deep sleep even after Aeon and Lakoi returned. However they did not interrupt him because Duchess Aliana wanted him to get as much rest as he could.

For him, he was transported back to the white world. Covered in the locs of Alucard, Kyle approached and sat across just as he did before.

There were two small cups in front of him but they were empty.

"You've finally returned. Do you have an answer to my question yet?" Alucard said, looking as peaceful as always.

"No." Kyle asked as he looked away.

"Is that your answer or are you unsure?" Alucard tilted his head as he asked.

"I- I don't know…"  He said. Why did you choose me of all vampires, I went against all of you rules and the very thing vampires stand for. I am not that. Why did you choose me?" Kyle questioned.

"Is that why you try to reject my bloodline? I suppose it makes sense, you haven't learned of my time before the crown." Alucard said as he looked at him. "You are my child."

"What does that mean?!" Kyle's voice heightened. "They are your children as well-"

"Yes they are but I made a mistake, prioritizing life over love and elegance over life, I was wrong. Do you know why?" Alucard asked as he reached over to Kyle's head to turn it so they could face each other.

"…Why?" He asked.

"Because I too killed in order to survive. With No regard for life and just like you, I realized the dirt on my hands was dreadful. I killed many vampires over something as silly as territory, my own kin. Just as you killed your kin, so I left my homeland. Secluded myself to find another way for my people to live. To cleanse myself of the needless deaths I caused. I was feared and hated at first." Alucard explained, making Kyle's eyes widen in shock. "Yes, I found a way to make the river of blood flow and returned with the conviction to change my people to make them realize the monstrosity we've committed. But that is all I accomplished."

"But that means you were able to single-handedly unite and tie a whole nation together." Kyle said in surprise.

"Yes, I became their king but I also took away the one way they knew. I saw first hand the disgust, anguish and terror I put into my people and I abandoned my home without a word. Endlessly wandering around the continent and when I returned, I saw a different way and chose to lead my people that way to end the killing between us.  You are in the same boat that I was in, however along with those feelings of terror and anguish and disgust, the people also saw the beauty and understood that it was your way of life. Whereas I thought you'd dragged us through the mud but contrary to that you carried us while you stepped in the mud. Dirtied your feet for people you've only just met and for a species you have never met. The original way vampires lived, you proved to me that there was a way to keep it intact with beauty and elegance. You are an upstanding vampire better than I was, you are my polar and I know you'll grow to be much greater than I am." Alucard explained as he put one in front of him. "Are you satisfied with my reason?"

Lost for words Kyle just looked on in disbelief. Alucard could see it in his face. "How often do those memories play in your head?"

"…Everyday, it's like I can't remember my own life without others playing in my head." Kyle said as he stared at the table.

"I see it makes you speak differently as well… so once you've made up your mind. You will see me again, and we'll have a nice little drink."  Alucard said as he reached over to him with his index finger pointed out.

"A drink?" Kyle repeated before he felt Alucard's fingernail press against his forehead. Sending a wave of sensations through his body.

His vision went dark, feeling as if a gentle breeze downwards on his entire body before he was able open his eyes. Kyle was back in the lodge, he moved the book from his face and sat up.

"I need some fresh air." Kyle said as he walked out of the room, bringing the book along with him as he headed towards the stairs.

Noticing the entire lodge was dark, he assumed the duchess family had fallen asleep already and headed downstairs to the door to leave the lodge. However, just as he got in front of the door, it opened on its own.

"Kyle? What are you doing, the sun is already rising?" Aeon asked as he stood on the other side of the doorway with a cloak over his body.

"I wanted to go for a little walk for fresh air and to read this." Kyle said before he showed him a book that looked similar to the "Book of Birth" but this one was labeled the "Book of Alucard".

"I see, it is quite dark in here. Allow me to give you a cloak to protect you from the sun." Aeon as he walked into the lodge.

"Thank you but I'm fine. I don't need it, the sun won't affect me." Kyle said as he stepped out of the door.

"Is that right, well then I'll let you do what you do. *yawns* I'll go get some rest, be careful." Aeon said before he walked away.

"Alright." Kyle said before he walked out.

As the sunlight landed on his skin, a feeling of warmth settled over him as he took in a deep breath.

*Exhales deeply* "Greater than the great King… yeah right." Kyle thought with a smile on his face as he walked to the river, following the rich aroma.

As he walked through the forest, the wind made the branches sway beautifully back and forth, leaves fell from these branches, gliding through the air kindly. The animal villagers looked at him in surprise, never seeing a vampire walk about so freely in the morning suns.

Amongst all of the animals who just observed, an all white tulpar approached him, trying to push him away so he could go back to the lodge, thinking his life's in danger.

"Move." Kyle said as the tulpar stood in his way.

The horse neighed and stomped its hoof while shaking its head.

"What…?" Kyle said as he looked at his hands. "Oh right, I'm fine.." he said as he tried to walk past but the tulpar slapped him with his tail.

*Neigh* the tulpar blew out its nose while stomping on both of its hooves. His reflexes took over in that moment making him slap the tulpar's arse as it was the closest part to him.

Making it run away from the shock. "My bad." Kyle said to himself as he looked at his hand and continued walking to the river.

Once he got to the river, and finally took his first glance at it. He was starstruck, he dropped the book and fell to his knees, thinking of it all. All that he did and went through to get here.

Kyle cupped his hands in the river. "There's so much! It's endless!" He raised his arms and watched the blood drip from his hands. "We did it Christian, we made it!" He said gleefully as tears formed in his eyes.

As he looked at the ruby river, a memory started playing in his head.

[ "K-Kyl-" Jeremy's voice called out to him, in the darkness.

He bolted awake from the taste of blood in his mouth, seeing Jeremy giving him blood from his forearm as blood leaked from his forehead.

"I can't let them have any trace of me, so I'll give you everything you need to survive." His thoughts flowed through his bloodstream.

"N-no." Kyle could only watch as the blood flowed into his mouth.]

"We did it Jeremy, Michael, Urie." Kyle said as his tears fell into the river.
