As the bear stood up, it released a deep growl as it smelled Kyle's body. "L-Leave or- d..die" It was intelligent enough to perfectly form words. "This m-my home."
Kyle was intimidated but he couldn't back away from the bear. It declared the castle as its own, the very place Mother called once home. For it to be lost to some bear, who just wandered in. "Even if it could talk, it was just an animal, no armor and no thoughts. It moves on instinct." He thought.
Just as he had that thought Deiamos rushed in front of him with his eyes glowing. Staring deeply into the bear's eyes, Kyle saw it's manor changed completely as it got back down to all four. Looking docile.
"Leave immediately, do not destroy anything on your way out." Deiamos said before the bear immediately charged to the glass doors that led out of the great chamber. "There is no need to fight with animals, their only goal is to live and eat." He said as he watched it run away.
"Right…" Kyle said as quickly calmed down before he turned around and picked up one of the chairs so he could sit on it..
Deiamos sheathed his sword, and plopped on the chair across from him. While Drey carried Melissa to a couch right next to Deiamos' chair. The retainers sat across from Kyle, while Graison laid down in the middle.
They relaxed in silence for a few seconds, taking it all in. For Kyle and his retainers this was surreal, they didn't have much time to actually bask in the fact that they traveled to a different world. For Deiamos, seeing one of the Members of the royal family return was the biggest amazement, the greatest sign of hope in decades.
"So Prince Kyle, what do we do now? What's the plan?" Drey asked as he slouched on the couch.
"The plan…." Kyle said as he slouched in the chair. "The original plan was to come here and recover from our loss in Alfheim, then return back prepared to get to the Queen. But if getting to the Queen means becoming King.." He was still lost about what he should do but he couldn't say. Although Melissa and Drey can sense his confusion, they didn't know how to help him, after all they are all still estranged. Only just regaining their own souls after realizing they were blindly serving some child to become vampires, having to abandon their lives for him, going against their morals even while he was "dead". .
Then meeting him for just a few hours and just as a kid, he pleaded to them about another place where blood flows endlessly , where they don't have to kill any more. "It's far." He said, not even knowing far, not even knowing that they'll follow regardless of the distance to protec himt. None of them realized the true meaning of their roles. .
However that's all it is, protecting this confused child. "The blood of the Vampire forever serves as the retainer to the Prince, that is their role." King Alucard gave those words to them before leaving his plane. They can't hate him, they don't love him, they don't know him but they follow him.
Kyle was able to acknowledge that. He blamed himself for involving them, "If I wasn't so selfish maybe I could've trusted my mother, she would've helped me... I was so stupid" he thought but he immediately collected himself. Not knowing that they didn't blame him.
"Okay, for now we'll take a break then we'll focus on Melissa's healing. We can get to the rest after." Kyle said before he put his head down again.
"I'm assuming you plan on moving after she is healed and well, yes?" Deiamos asked as he put his fingers on his chin.
"...Well, let's see how everything goes." Kyle tried dodged the question as kept his head down
".." Deiamos slightly nodded his head in agreement as he laid back against the chair.
Kyle ended up falling asleep with his down on the table, his arms crossed around his head. Only a couple minutes after he stopped talking.
"One of us needs to go to the river." Deiamos said as he looked at Drey.
"I agree.. Before we start deciding, let's ask the receiver herself." Drey said in a skeptical tone as he looked at him through the corner of his eye.
"I don't care." Melissa said quickly as she waved her hand.
"Then you would agree that this is for your companion. You should go, yes?" Deiamos said as he saw a blurred glimpse of a shadow disappear from the glass door from the corner of his eye.
.Deiamos didn't think much of it since he didn't get a good enough chance, but he assumed an insect fluttered past. After all there is a flower growing atop of the roof.
"I would, yes. But under these circumstances, I can't leave the prince unattended as I am his only capable retainer at the moment." Drey argued with a small smirk on his face.
They went on, going back and forth constantly for nearly 20 minutes before Drey ended up convincing Deiamos to go get the blood. So Deiamos went hastily, leaving his sword behind for Drey if something was to occur.
"Get a different chair." Melissa said as she scooted away from him.
"I am." Drey said as he put his hands up as if he was surrendering while getting up and moving to Deiamos' seat. "He was barely human in the first place." He said as his foot crossed over the other.
"What?' Melissa said confusingly as she adjusted her body to lay on the couch.
"His mother was a vampire so even before he started turning he had vampire blood. So Queen Aria didn't choose, he is a part of her bloodline. His turning was probably like going through puberty. His cells must've also activated at that time." Drey said as he looked at Kyle.
"This is his people, his mother is the 5th princess of Queen Aria. And according to Deiamos, every member of the royal family besides Kyle's mother has been locked away in the other nations. They can't claim the crown l for some reason. However, since he was born after the war, he is the next and only prince. Making him the next king." Melissa added as she looked at the ceiling.
"That's probably why he's worried but I don't understand, he agreed to become the captain of the ANM branch, it's almost the same." Drey said as he moved closer to them.
"I think he agreed with Michael just to get it over with, he was impatient up until a few hours ago." Melissa said as she looked around.
"It must've started to click for him that we aren't in the lower realms anymore." Drey said as he looked at her. "Earlier in New York, you said King Alucard gave you the medical and anatomical knowledge of vampires, right?" Drey suddenly asked.
"I said that." Melissa confirmed.
"All of our emotions are connected somehow. Do you know why that is?" Drey asked as if he dropped the previous topic.
"Well, I believe it's because Kyle's genes run through our blood. Whenever a vampire doesn't finish the person they're sucking blood from, a bit of blood leaks from their gums and seeps into the person's bloodstream." Melissa explained before her eyes widened as something came to her mind. "What I don't understand is how he can see people's memories by drinking their blood."
"According to Kyle, blood is the source of life with not much explanation on that. To be honest I don't think he knows why. But since it's the blood of life it has one of the aspects to carry memories as well. But I have never seen anyone's memories, my dreams have been weird though.." Drey said as he crossed his arms.
"Kyle said he felt as if he was living through memories that weren't his. Do you think he has those dreams as well?" Melissa asked.
"They're probably worse.. You know this may be random but I thought you would have felt weird with us after everything that happened." Drey said.
"It is.." Melissa said bluntly. "It was weird at first but I thought that would make me a hypocrite, I did the same as you under the same conditions. I don't have the right to judge or blame either of you and if I didn't go with him, I'd be the only one there." She continued as she looked around the room almost as if she was embarrassed.
"You know, I was never really a historian, that was just a cover because I was already being chased by the government before running into Kyle. So my life wasn't exactly ruined when we did meet." Drey suddenly brought up as he started fidgeting with his fingers.
"Really, so you were like this even before everything happened." Melissa said as she stared at the ceiling.
"Of course, I would never change my perfect personality." Drey said as flaunted his hands.
"That's great for you, I guess." Melissa said while chuckling. "..When I remembered everything it felt as if the very thing I built my whole life was crumbling, seeing what I did to those innocent people. Hundreds of them, even children. And as a nurse, someone who was trying to be a doctor.. I feel like.. a failure." Melissa said in a dispirited tone.
"I get what you're saying. I thought I was going to be able to protect people but instead I was doing the opposite. I thought I was gonna have to run from them forever, but now I see that's not the case. I know what it's like killing someone for the first time, especially when that person is innocent." Drey said as he looked at her. "This old couple I met once told me, life is a given that was granted to us by a grand and divine being. Life has only one favorite and that is the living, death loves only one thing and that is life, however love is always eternal. So long as you are the former, you should feel blessed even when you meet the latter." He finished
"That was cute but it wasn't helpful." Melissa said as she stared at him confusingly. "You know I just thought of it but the memories must've also helped him realize something. He knows how to fight better and seems to pick up on certain stuff faster." She said as she looked at Kyle who sounds asleep snoring silently.
"Yeah, it must've been all of those HPA soldier's but his moves seem to be more closely related to the ANM's fighting style. Maybe something he picked up from the previous captain, Jeremy." Drey said as he looked to the ceiling to remember his previous fights.
"Yeah.. I wonder how his friends in school were, he never talks about them." Melissa said as she tried to cross her legs.
"I wonder if he even tried to contact them before he left." Drey said.
