"Patience my love, I spoke to the mistress of dreams, and she thinks we can bring my case before the living tribunal."
"Finally, some recompense for what Mori has done to us." Her eyes regained a glimmer of hope. The cottage began to tremble, and they looked at each other, realizing what this meant.
"Until we meet again, my love," Ciaran kissed her lips, and she closed her eyes as the dream faded.
She opened her eyes and found herself in her room, tears streaming down her cheeks, and for the first time in a long time, happiness and hope filled her heart. She couldn't remember her dream as usual, but she felt peace, which she hadn't felt in a long time. After Kim's death, she had fallen into a deep depression for the past few months. She couldn't get out of bed, every waking moment was agony, and it didn't help that she had some of his clothes in her apartment, a constant reminder of his absence. She felt as if she were in a bad dream, and that one day she would wake up and he would return to her. Discovering his engagement ring and learning he intended to propose to her broke her even more. She couldn't quantify or explain her emotions because she had shut everyone out in her pain. She needed to get herself ready for school as the winter semester approached. The world would not come to a halt for her. Her phone rang, and it was her mother who was calling; she didn't want to talk, but she couldn't keep ignoring everyone. She was irritated by the buzzing sound from her phone and wanted it to stop, so she caved and answered.
"Hello Delilah, how are you?"
"Hi mom, I am fine, how are you?"
"You haven't been returning my or your father's calls, these past few weeks. We are so worried Delilah. We know you are mourning Kim, but don't push the people who love you away. We are here for you, my love."
Something in her broke when she heard her mother say that. She started sobbing and couldn't stop; her chest hurt as if it were about to burst and spill all the sadness she was holding in.
"It's ok dearest, let it out, it's ok to feel these emotions. Feel all the emotions that come to you, sit with the pain and sadness, and learn from them. But don't let them stay too long."
"Thank you, mother," said Delilah as a snort ran down her nose and face.
"You are most welcome and most loved, don't hesitate to call me if you need anything."
The call ended, and once again she was alone with her thoughts and sadness.
…
Delilah was walking through the mall after finishing her shopping when she came across a psychic sitting in front of a table with cards spread out. Delilah was not one to indulge in such things, but she reluctantly went when the lady pointed at her.
"Would you like to know what your future holds?" "The cards will tell you everything you need to know."
"Sure," Delilah said as she sat down. When the lady took her hands, she gasped and pulled her hands away from Delilah's.
"What is it?"
"You've been marked by a powerful magic child. The kind which I've never seen before."
"I don't understand."
"Who are you?" asked the psychic.
"Uhm I'm Delilah." Delilah was taken aback by the psychic's reaction.
"Is there a problem?"
"Please leave, I don't see anything in your future, the cards aren't showing me."
Delilah stood up and walked away, murmuring under her breath, "scammer."
Her phone rang Joyce called.
"Hey,"
"How are you, Lilah?"
Joyce had a feeling something was wrong with her.
"The strangest thing just happened, I'm walking through the mall and this psychic tells me I'm haunted by darkness or something."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah, it literally just happened."
"Those people are scammers, don't take anything she told you to heart. They will say anything to make money from you. Next thing you know they offer you spells and all types of juju."
"Delilah laughed; "you are right."
"So, am I seeing you later tonight?" asked Joyce.
"I don't think I'm in the mood to be out Joyce, but I don't want you worrying too much about me, I promise I'm ok"
"Have you spoken to Felicia? lilah I'm so sorry, I didn't know she would run back to Kim and tell him all that I told her. I am truly sorry Lilah." Joyce felt super guilty about the role she played, she didn't realise that Felicia was just fishing for information from her and she betrayed Delilah by offering it up to her.
