Chapter 1 - he rescued me from the pits of hell

it was already morning when I opened my eyes. I was so tired from the previous night. my family and I were moving from our house in Georgia to a new house in Atlanta. my dad passed away last week.

OMG!!! sorry guys I forget to introduce myself. my name is Anna Hawkins. I'm 14years old. I love to play soccer, basketball and I'm an athlete. I have a little brother Mike and an older sister Jessica. my dad was a doctor and my mother is a sales representative with a company.

anyway back to present, I rolled out of bed even though I barely had up to 2 hours of sleep. I was used to running on very low amount of sleep. I went straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. clean freak y'all.

am I the only girl that doesn't see the need for skincare, spa and makeup every single day? I hope not.

I heard a knock on the door, who could that be?

I pulled the door open. it was mum

she's the only one that ever knocks in this house.

she looked so tired with these panda eyes of hers. I almost felt sorry for her. don't get me wrong, I love my mum but sometimes she's something.

good morning mum, I greeted.

morning sweetie, thank God you are already up.

the movers will be here in about an hours time, she said peering curiously into my room.

I pulled the door closer to block her view. yes mum, I'm done packing. you have nothing to worry about.

alright then, breakfast will be ready in 10 minutes, she said as she turned and went back down the stairs.

I closed the door and went to finish the rest of my packing.

I looked around the room and was filled with nostalgia. This was the room I spent most of my life in. it was my identity. now I wasn't sure if I had any identity anymore.

I wasn't really a popular kid. I was just one of the those guys. I was smart quite alright but most times it's not enough. I was very shy, an overthinker. I was very insecure about myself, I always thought everyone was far better than myself. my room was the only secure space I had and now I was leaving it.

my dad bought the house as his wedding gift for my mom and now that he's gone. mum can't afford to maintain the house anymore. the bills are too much so she placed a mortgage on it and rented it out to another family.

we were going to live with my grandmother in Atlanta. I zipped up my last suitcase and looked around again. my room was empty aside from the furniture in it. I was going to miss this place but I dare not show any weakness

it was just as hard for everyone as it was for me but I have to be strong for mum.

I quickly took my bath and put on my clothes. I told you I wasn't a skincare kind of person. I went downstairs and saw that breakfast was already ready. breakfast was orange juice, bread, bacon and eggs. everyone was already at the table.

I sat down and started digging in without a word. the atmosphere was already tense. I wonder what had happened.

I could feel the anger radiating from my sister, it would not take long before she exploded.

5... 4.... 3... 2...

she slammed her spoon on the table and stood up. I closed my eyes and waited for the outburst.

I don't know why we have to move, she shouted. Georgia is our home. All our friends are here. Griffin is here . Ps: Griffin is her boyfriend. how am I going to leave them?

my mother stood up and tried to pacify her but she pushed her away.

I hate you and I wished you had been the one that died in that car crash then Dad would have still been here and we wouldn't have to move.

my mother slapped her hard. I know that it's hard on you. but it's also hard on me. I had no intention of any of this happening.

Tears started flowing down her eyes ruining her makeup. I almost felt bad for her.

she ran up the stairs to her room and slammed the door and mum went after her.

I looked back across the table at my brother Mike. he was just 10 years old and now he just witnessed this mess.

everything is going to fine, I told him.

Jessica will be fine and mum too.

he nodded and I loaded his plate with more food and he went on eating.

Jessica was already 16 soon about to enter college.

mum and dad were on their way back from a movie which mum had insisted they see even though it was already late, when their car was hit by a runaway driver. Dad died on the spot while mum had some injuries.

I had never seen them argue before, they were perfect and happy. everyone was okay and no one quarrelled. it was as if he was the one holding the family together and now he's gone.
