Immediately Abigail heard Mr Awuku's statement, her mood changed from worry to anger. She had not expected what she heard, and she knew the meaning of what her senior man said. She rushed to the counter of the charge office, leaving the others behind. And behind the counter, was a face she had dreamt of never seeing again.
Amanda, her formal best and only friend, now her sworn enemy, was seated and sleeping comfortably on the long bench, leaning her back against the wall of the charge office, with her hands cuffed together and placed on her laps.
Her brown hair was a bit messy, and her face lacked the multiple layers of makeups she loves to wear in other to look a bit beautiful and presentable. It was as if she was arrested from her hideout immediately she waked up from her night sleep.
She was in a simple wine knee length straight dress with spaghetti straps, and with just a look, you can tell it was what she passed the night in. Her lips looked pale and swollen with bruises, as if she was harassed by someone.
Not long after Abigail got to the counter, she opened her eyes and looked around before turning to look at Abigail, who stood in front of her across the counter. Her gaze were cold and indifferent, and her eyes looked so reddish as if she had been crying for a while.
"You think you worn by getting me here? Then you are mistaking, you and I have just started." Amanda spat in Abigail's face coldly, just in time for Enoch and Mr Awuku to enter the charge office.
" So you don't give up, do you?" Enoch asked Amanda coldly. He heard her outburst and understood what she meant.
"You?....What are you doing here? Amanda was shock to see Enoch at the station, she then turn to Abigail. "Oh.... So is true what they are saying? And you still won't stay put? what a shame." She said sarcastically, before leaning against the wall again.
"Am sorry do we know each other? have we met?" Enoch asked Amanda coldly, which caused her to swallow the lumps in her throat and sat upright.
"Am afraid not, but who doesn't know you, Mr Damtis?" Amanda said, trying to be sarcastic but fear could be seen on her face.
Abigail should have been angry with the lady in front of her, but she felt pity for her instead. She had not been able to say even a single word to Amanda, nor was she able to move her sight away from her. The state Amanda was in made all her anger towards her disappear, and her heart ached for the girl she once called friend.
"It good we haven't met, because girls like you who get into my life, found themselves in the best place they deserve." Abigail heard Enoch threatening Amanda, which brought her out of her pitiful thought.
"She said she knows nothing about the incident, and claims killing that man was an accident." Mr Awuku said when he noticed the charge office was becoming tensed.
"An accident?" Both Enoch and Abigail shouted in shock at the same time, not believing what they just heard.
They took their time in watching the CCTV footage several times, and there was no way that could be an accident. It looked more like a planed thing and it was well strategized. They exchanged surprised look and when they turned to look at Amanda, she had a broad smile on her face. She looked like she was enjoying seeing them in shock.
"You know I can make you laugh at the right time, because I don't see anything funny here." Enoch threatened and the smile on Amanda's face disappeared.
"Why did you do it Amanda?" Abigail asked calmly that, both Mr Awuku and Enoch were shock to see how calm she was, instead of being angry.
"Wow, you surprise me you know? Are you trying to pretend in front of this guy who belongs to another girl, or you are trying to get words out of me?" Amanda asked coldly, turning her sight between Enoch and Abigail as she spoke.
" You don't know me, Amanda. I don't think you want to know how I can make you talk." Even though Abigail was threatening Amanda, she still sounded calm and not bothered with the cold and indifferent gaze Amanda was given her.
"What? Torture me again? You don't know the kind of torture I've been through, knowing you were dating my guy right in front of me. I felt tortured each day you called him your guy, and even more when you told me about the things he did for you.
I was thankful I wasn't there for you to tell me the things he did to you on your engagement day, but I am happy it all happened that way." Amanda spat out angrily to Abigail.
Her intentions was to get Abigail angry, maybe to see what Enoch would do about Abigail's anger. She stared at Abigail in the eyes, lifted and dropped her eyebrows severally to tease her. Abigail felt irritated, but she wasn't going to let Amanda win, she was going to beat her in her own game.
"Really? You know that suits you better. If every betrayer gets this kind of torture, I think there wouldn't be a need for a cell." Abigail said sarcastically, and the smirk on Amanda's face whipped in seconds.
"You know what? Either you admit it or not, I know you did it and I have proof of that. What you just said is even another proof." Abigail continued talking when she noticed Amanda was angry.
"I care less what you have, I didn't do anything to you and that's final. You can't force me to say anything." Amanda shouted angrily.
"Okay. You know what day today is right? let me remind you that you might spend days here and continue at the prison after, and you won't sit on that seat forever, you will be with the rats." Abigail said teasingly, pointing to the cells.
Amanda begin to panic, her face turned pale as she realized it was Friday and if she's not granted bail, she'll have to be in the cell till Monday before getting bail. That is, if she'll be granted one. She shifted her sight from Abigail to Mr Awuku, thinking of getting help from him.
"Sir, you can't keep me here. I didn't do anything, you have to let me go please." She pretended to be carrying as she begged, but Amanda's pleading was meaningless to either of them.
"Oh, you've started crying already? Don't worry, I'll be here too. The only difference is, you'll be in there and I would be out here, and you won't get to apply that many layers of makeup. And if you are lucky enough, the rats in there will design your long nails for you." Abigail couldn't help but teased Amanda even more, which upset her.
" So it wasn't enough you taking my guy away from me, you also want to lock me here so you can have him all to yourself right? I'll be out of here in no time, all I need is a call to my lawyer." As if she wasn't scared, Amanda said sarcastically.
" That's if am allowing you to make any calls." For the first time since Abigail got to the charge office, she sounded angry.
She didn't waste any more time with Amanda and just left to the chief inspector's office. She saluted the officer in charge and took a seat after, then the other men joined her.
"We don't have anything against her concerning your case, so we can only charge her with the murder of the man. She claims it was an accident and if she gets a good lawyer, her sentence will be less." Mr Sarpon, the chief inspector, in charge of the police station said.
" What? Sir, I know the video doesn't prove her involvement in my case, but the man she killed was the same man who was arrested on the day of my case. I plead you to do something about it." Abigail was beginning to get angry, not able to accept the outcome of the investigation.
"I think there's something you can do, but am not sure how it will be in your favor." Mr Sarpon said, getting the attention of everyone, especially Enoch, who was ready to do anything for Amanda to be behind bars, for the sake of Abigail's safety.
"May I know what it is? Enoch asked impatiently with an expressionless face.
" Abigail will have to wait for the girl's first case to be settled as she faces the public, then she can be faced by Abigail. But Abigail needs to get a strong evidence and witness to attest in her favor." The chief inspector explained.
Enoch and Abigail exchanged looks and from the gaze they gave each other, it was as if they were communicating with their mind. A light smile appeared on the lips of Enoch and Abigail nodded before she also gave him a smile in return.
Mr Awuku smiled and shook his head upon seeing how the two lovers were silently communicating. He lifted his face and looked at the chief inspector who was also dumfounded with the looks Abigail and Enoch were sharing.
"I suppose Mr Damtis will help Miss Abigail out in finding the right evidence and also be a witness?" Mr Awuku said suddenly, breaking their silent communications.
"Yes.. sir. I sure will, and I think I know how." Enoch said in response, not knowing how to address the two older men.
Plans were made to get Amanda behind bars for what happened to Abigail, and the two officers promised to help in any way they can. They stepped out of the inspector's office after a while and made to leave the police station, when they heard Amanda talking loudly from the charge office.
"Don't think I'll rot in here, am going to get back to you. I wish that man just killed you instead of trying to rape you." Amanda cursed angrily.
"Oh, so you know she was almost rapped? I don't think anyone said that to you here?" Mr Awuku got angry and stepped into the office again.
Abigail tried to follow him, but Enoch held her hands and asked her to wait in his car, which she did. He came back after a while and just drove off to God knows where, without saying anything to Abigail nor Gideon.
