Late at night, a guy walks down the street and suddenly comes across a girl sitting with her head between her legs. Concerned, he approaches and asks, "Are you alright?" She looks up, "There's a wound on my thigh," she says with a soft voice. As he moves closer to inspect, the girl suddenly grabs him, "Wait, what are you doing!" and then a scream echoes through the night.
The next day, we find Haruka walking to school. Yawning as she walks, Haruka thinks to herself that not much has happened since her last battle with a demon, finding the lack of excitement a bit boring. Suddenly, Aya arrives, walking next to her cheerfully. "Good morning!" Aya then notices Haruka's tired demeanor and asks, "Are you exhausted?" to which Haruka replies, "It's just from late-night studying." Aya then reveals that they're getting a new classmate, sparking Haruka's curiosity as this is quite sudden in the middle of the year. "That's going to be pretty interesting," said Haruka, and they went off to school.
Soon, class started, and the teacher walked in. The students learned that a new student was joining. Walking into the classroom was a slouching boy with messy hair, glasses, and somewhat baggy clothes. He didn't seem too interesting and appeared very quiet. He wrote his name on the board, Takahisa. All around the classroom, disappointment filled the air. Haruka was a bit disappointed too, but she wasn't expecting much. Class continued on, and as lunch rolled around, Haruka walked through the halls.
After finishing her lunch, she decided to take a walk. While navigating the halls, she encountered a male student staggering against a wall. Concerned, she approached him and asked, "Are you alright?" He looked at her with a very tired expression, "Y-yeah, I'm ok," in a low-energized voice. As he continued walking, he nearly fell over. Haruka rushed to his side, concerned, she took him to the infirmary and informed the nurse that he seemed very sick. The nurse examined him and declared he was fine physically, but his energy seemed drained. Suspicious, Haruka investigated further. Upon exploring and listening to various people, she heard some rumors about a girl who left people tired after talking to her. Intrigued, she eventually discovered it was a female student and decided to have a chat with her.
At some point, she found the classroom of the rumored person of interest. There, she sees a girl sitting by a window reading a book in an empty classroom. Haruka sensed something strange. She approached cautiously, "Hi, by any chance have you seen anything weird lately?" she asked with a friendly smile. The girl responded in a monotone voice, "No, nothing at all." The atmosphere then got awkward as she answered with a quick response and stayed silent. Haruka could sense some tension then she spoke again, breaking the silence, "If that's all then I have to go to the restroom before class starts." She then gets up and leaves the room before Haruka could say anything.
However, as she walked away, Haruka felt demonic energy emanating from her, confirming her suspicion that this girl was connected somehow to the recent rumors and the exhausted guy potentially that she had met earlier.
School comes to an end, and everyone is leaving, heading home. The mysterious girl is walking off, and Haruka is following her from behind. Now that she knows something is amiss with this girl, she shadows her, watching where she goes next. They walk for a good while, heading into the city. Haruka continues following her, but nothing seems strange until they enter an alleyway. Though it's dark, Haruka can't leave the situation unresolved. She proceeds further into the alley, losing sight of the girl, who eventually disappears. Panicking, Haruka searches around, trying to figure out where she might have gone.
Suddenly, she feels a touch from behind, she tries to move quickly but starts feeling lethargic. "What's going on with me!" Haruka realizes her energy is being drained. Pulling out her kunai, she stays alert, looking around, but the girl is nowhere to be found. She decides to run out but is attacked again, losing even more energy and falling to the ground. Helpless, she sees the girl approaching. As she starts feeling faint, a mysterious man arrives, fighting off the demon. Closing her eyes, she drifts off.
Later, she wakes up on a roof, unsure of how she got there. The new kid from her class appears, startling her. "Wow, hold on there, didn't mean to startle you." He reassures her. Haruka, surprised that she does not remember the fight, questions why she's here and how he knows she's tired. The boy then explains, "I witnessed the whole fight watching from the rooftop, and when I saw you on the ground, I had to jump in before things got bad," and then offers her a drink, advising her to rest.
After all this, Haruka starts to wonder who this guy is and how he knows about demons. He then decides to take off his glasses, brushes his hair back, and says, "Don't you remember who I am? It's been a while." It takes a second before she realizes that the boy is actually her cousin from the ninja village. Surprised, she asks what he's doing here. He explains, "I was stationed to live in town and work with you." She expresses gratitude, realizing that without him, she might have fallen prey to the demon. When she questions why he didn't reveal himself earlier, he mentions wanting to keep a low profile and planned to reveal his presence eventually.
She then asks where he's staying, and it cuts to Haruka's house where her mom and sister welcome Takahisa. It's revealed that he will be staying in one of the empty rooms in the house, and they enjoy a feast together, celebrating his arrival. Haruka reflects on the day's events, acknowledging that she let the demon escape and resolves to be ready for the next encounter.
Later, in a different location, hidden away from everyone, the demon girl from earlier walks into a room. In this hidden area, three other demons start talking to her. One of them remarks that she got caught by a ninja. The girl apologizes, explaining that there was no way for her to know the other girl was a ninja. The figures express doubt in her ability, and one warns her that she needs to get rid of the ninja. The girl assures them she understands and walks away, worrying about what might happen if she fails again.
