I awoke to the sound of my phone ringing, and I blinked my sleepy eyes, groaning as I reached towards my nightstand, and answered the call without even thinking.
"Hello?" I answered, yawning as I did so. I didn't even bother to look at who it was.
"Morning, Sid. It's Thadwick." Thad said, and my sleepy haze cleared some. He was talking quietly, but not too quiet, so I could make out what he was saying.
"Thad? Good morning. Since you are calling me, I assume Liz spoke to you?" I asked.
He chuckled.
"I'd still be asleep right now if she hadn't. Not having a normal job has its perks. I don't even have to get out of bed. I'm trying not to wake the wife." He said, and I won't lie, a part of me was jealous at that. I don't think I've ever woke up with someone next to me before. Maybe soon, but I didn't wanna press the issue.
I didn't have to work today at least. I had texted my boss last night before I went to bed and told him I wouldn't be in today. I never used sick time or vacation, so it wasn't an issue. I'm pretty sure the dude was surprised.
"So, any idea what I'm in for?" I asked, nervous butterflies in my stomach.
"It should be fine. I know the chief of the paranormal police, and he's pretty easy going, if a tad eccentric. Just be honest, and tell him the truth. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think." He replied.
I breathed out a sigh I didn't know I was holding. I was nervous around authority figures, and even more so now. The guy had to have powers himself, and I wondered just what kind of abilities he had to get to the station he was at now.
I heard shuffling in the background. Then, Thad's voice came on again.
"You best get ready. Let me know how it goes. Ry is waking up and I want to spend some time with her." Thad said.
"Hi Sid!" Ryanna's cheery voice said from the background.
"Good morning, Ryanna." I said, trying to convey a smile in my voice.
"Good luck today. Everything will be fine. I hope you don't mind, but I need my husband for something." She said said, and I had to hide my chuckle.
"Sounds good. Maybe I'll see you both later." I replied, a slight laugh in my tone
"We'd love to have you. I'm sure Lizzie would love it even more. Now, shoo, and go get ready." Ryanna said, and I heard a slight gust of air, and a small thump.
My girl's moms were sweet, but good God, I don't know how Thad and Carl do it. I mean, don't get me wrong, they're hilarious, but that seems like it would be too much for me.
I looked at my phone and realized I never hung up. My mind was still a little foggy from the sleep. I needed to get out of bed. Then, I heard a loud gasp from the other end of the phone.
"Oh God yes. You feel so good. I want you to fuck me so hard I can't walk straight." Ryanna's voice said.
I can't remember the last time I pressed the end call button that fast. I dropped my phone like it was possessed by demons and just stood up to get dressed. I was just going to pretend that I didn't hear that. Don't get me wrong, way to go Thad, but those are just images I'd rather not have in my head.
It was roughly 30 minutes later, give or take a couple, when I arrived that the huge building that was the Wyoming Police Department. 3 flags stood high outside with a light breeze hitting them. A decent portion of the front was just glass doors and windows, with a large archway indicating the entrance.
I walked inside, my nerves a jumbled mess as I approached the reception desk. My nerves did not improve when I noticed that insanely cute brunette behind the reception desk. Today has not been good for my blood pressure.
"Hello. How may I help you?" The very cute and very familiar voice said from behind the counter.
As I got closer, I saw her eyes scan me more than once, and her cheeks had turned a light pink.
"I, uh, I'm Osidious Vanir, and I'm pretty sure I talked with you on the phone the other day. Lina?" I asked, but I was almost certain it was.
Her voice was cute, and I had assumed she was as well, but this was even more than I was expecting. Long brown hair, high cheekbones, the cutest damned button nose, and plump pink lips. Did I have two girlfriends? Yes. Could I also still look? Also yes.
She just keep staring at me, before she physically shook her head.
"Y-yes. I've been expecting you. Please, this way. Janice? Mind the counter, will you?" Lina said, and such was her beauty that I didn't even notice the older and much less attractive woman at the left counter.
"I'm not doing anything else." The woman deadpanned, and with that, Lina walked out from the behind the counter, and gestured for me to follow her.
Now it was my turn to stare with red cheeks. The white blouse she wore was low cut, showing off some cleavage, and while not large, her breasts were modest sized, and definitely very nice to look at. It was the accompanying white pencil skirt that dream my attention, showing off the longest and nicest legs I'd ever seen on a woman. She was toned, but not overly so, and when I say it worked for me, it truly did.
"Mr. Vanir?" She asked, and I blinked back to myself.
"Sorry. Lead the way. And... just call me Sid, please?" I said.
I didn't hate my name persay, but it was pretty weird and unheard of, so I just rather everyone call me by my nickname. Lina smirked.
"As you wish, Sid." She said, then she proceeded to turn around and my mouth went dry.
I am not 15 anymore, so what the fuck? I was able to keep myself composed and follow her, but from the very generous hump I could see through her skirt, it was difficult. While I thought Nadia had a nicer ass, as did Liz, that did by no means make Lina's any less wonderous. Truly, where were these women when I was in high school? My special vision also informed me that she also had paranormal abilities, but what they were I had no idea. I wonder if they intentionally drew the eye, because goddamn.
I followed her to an elevator, and she pressed the button to call it. As we waited, I attempted to break our silence that had become rather awkward.
"So, how long you been working here?" I asked.
"Next month will be 10 years." She said, and that left me speechless again.
Did she start working here when she was 10 or 11? She was goddamn gorgeous, and didn't look a day over 21. She noticed my facial expression and laughed.
"Oh, come now, Sid. You can probably already tell we are... similar." She said with a mischievous smile, her cheeks heating again.
I could not read this woman. She was flirtatious, yet also seemingly shy. And goddamn it, I was here for it. She was right too, and while I didn't know exactly what she was or what she could do, I could see her aura clear as day. It was... red? Pink? Hmm, that's a new one.
The elevator dinged and opened, and she bid me to follow her inside. Bringing my eyes up from her delicious curves, I watched as she grabbed a strange key from underneath her shirt that was hanging around her neck, and put it in a keyhole that was underneath the elevator buttons. Huh, never seen something like that before.
Suddenly, the elevator lurched, before I felt it moving. It was not going up however, it was going down. A small panic rose up from within me. Was I wrong and was I actually being brought to some underground testing facility?
"The paranormal division is settled in an underground portion of the police station. Most of the normal officers here don't even know about it." She said, and that eased my mind a little.
The elevator opened, and Lina stepped out. I followed her out into a fairly nice looking lobby where a lone person sat at a window looking out towards the lobby area. It was a woman, middling age I would say, but I wasn't very knowledgeable about this subject as the woman was blue with pointy ears longer than Liz's. Drow?
"Ah, Lina, I was wondering when you'd be down here." The woman said, then she eyed me up and down, "Handsome, yet fairly normal looking. Not at all how I heard."
Lina looked at me, furrowed her brow, and then chuckled.
"Such a well made enchantment. I didn't even realize it until I looked closely. You can be yourself down here, if you want." Lina said, then turned to the drow woman, "Ali, let Mr. Brookerson know we are coming."
"Yes ma'am." The drow, Ali, said.
My eyebrows rose. This woman looked like she was at least 15 years older than Lina, yet referred to her as a superior. Just what was she? It was prettt obvious she wasn't going to reveal that secret, but he at least felt comfortable dropping the enchantment. It didn't drain him or anything, it just felt... weird. Like an itch you can't scratch. My long white hair fell over my chest as I deactivated the enchantment.
"Now, if you..." Lina said, but when she turned to look at me, her words stopped dead.
Her mouth hung open, like she couldn't find the words she wanted to express. It was amusing that this keeps happening to me, especially considering most of these women were drop dead gorgeous, and they somehow became speechless when looking at me. Lina's face was on the verge of combusting with how red she was, but there was also a hunger in her eyes that wouldn't have been out of place on Nadia.
"Goddamn you're a catch." Ali said, her cheeks a darker shade of blue.
Now my face was burning. I had no room to talk, as I have spent a fair amount of time looking at pretty girls in my time, but it was never this obvious. I couldn't help but look, which I was beginning to wonder if it had anything to do with what kind of paranormal I was, but it was always respectful. Looking is fine, but staring was just weird and rude. Besides, this world was far too full of nice asses that basically demanded attention.
"Uh, yeah, thanks?" I replied. Perfect response. Way to go me.
Lina seemed to finally pull herself away from eyefucking me, and she straighten her posture.
"Please, Sid, follow me." She said, and beckoned me down a hallway to the left of Ali.
"Wow. Even his ass is perfect sculpted." I heard Ali say, although it was quiet enough that she probably thought I didn't.
I snorted, and Lina turned around and raised an eyebrow at me.
"Sorry. Just thought of something funny." I said, although I'll admit it wasn't very convincing. She seemed to be content with that though, and we continued walking.
We walked down a long corridor, with people of various races passing by us. I almost chuckled at the sight of a huge muscle bound Orc with an officer's uniform that said, "Larry," on it. It wasn't that he looked funny or anything, it was just the sight of him in that getup, and his name being Larry that I found funny. I always expected paranormal's would have crazy ass names, but so far, most of them I had met were just like everyone else. Well, powers and shit included.
Eventually, we came to a large set of double doors, and the plack on the door read, "Bookerson." I gave a nervous gulp as Lina just walked in like she owned the place. I wasn't exactly sure if I was in trouble or not, as Lina had made me feel pretty welcome, but still...
I followed her inside and I just blinked. It reminded me of any police chief's office I had seen in movies and shows, but the biggest difference was the caucasian version of the Incredible Hulk sitting behind the desk. I could see his muscle definition through his button up dress shirt, and I could even see his veins sticking out as well. He had a neatly trimmed beard complete with a mustache, and his hair was slicked back, cut off just past the ears.
"This guy has to spend thousands of dollars a month on protein. Jesus fucking christ." I thought.
I thought I had gotten pretty big and muscular with my change, but this was a different level of buff. This was the guy who probably came out of his mom's womb wielding a sledgehammer and instead of his mom's tit, he was fed raw eggs and steroids.
"So, this is him. Osidious Vanir?" He asked, and even his voice was monsterous.
I was sure the wooden furnishings rattled when he spoke.
"Yes. He is here, as you asked sir." Lina said, and she seemed not bothered in the slightest. She even had a smirk on her lips.
"Uh, hi." I said. Oh yeah, I nailed it.
"I got a call from my friend Thadwick today. He told me you are a good kid, with a good heart. He told me you are dating his daughter, and her best friend as well." He said, probably trying to figure out just how I managed that one. To be honest, so was I.
Lina seemed to look at me with a new found look in her eyes. There was a gleam of excitement there, and it made me nervous almost immediately. I scratched the back of my head.
"Yeah, my life has gotten pretty crazy in the course of a few days. " I said, and it was true im every sense of the word.
The man seemed to study me for a long while, and the longer we sat in silence, the more nervous I became. I really just hoped that I wasn't in trouble.
"Osidious Vanir, my name is Clyde Bookerson, and none of this is the reason why you are here. Obviously. No, the reason you were asked to come here today was because of this." He said, and he grabbed a small remote from his desk and pressed a button.
I heard the noise of something moving to my left, and when I turned to look, a large screen was dropping out of the ceiling of his office. Not gonna lie, it was pretty sweet. I'd love to have something like that in my room. The screen, which had to be at least 70 inches, came to a stop, and with another click of his remote, it turned on. It looked like whatever he was gonna show me was ready to go, and even though I already knew where this was heading, my heart still sank. He pressed what I assumed was the play button, and just like that, a video began to play.
It was a video of the front of the bank, and I could hear men and women shouting. Many were giving orders, and many were taking them as well. It was a very clear video, and as the camera zoomed in to survey the scene, you could see inside of the bank very clearly. I gritted my teeth as it played the scene of that human sized popsicle holding a sharp point of ice to that little girl's neck.
Suddenly, a loud thunderclap sounded all throughout the area, and there were shouts of concern and surprise. I think I heard "what the fuck is that?" at least 6 times. A blur of a lightning bolt shot past the camera, a very me sized blur, and crashed through the thick sheet of ice like it was a wet napkin. I didn't notice this at the time, but when I punched that guy in the face, the air around my fist distorted, and the sound of my fist impacting his face sounded like I smacked him with 3 tons of bricks. The camera actually vibrated at the exact moment of impact, and then the fuckface went flying through the bank wall, flying across the street behind the bank, and he came to a stop in the wall of a different building on the other side.
The rest of the scene played out exactly the same as I remembered it, however the end was where I truly got nervous. It was where I began to talking to people after I had taken out the rest of those thugs.
"Hey, Ben, can you pick up what he's saying?" A man asked, and while the camera did not pan away from me, the man behind the camera grunted.
"I'll try the directional mic. I need to get a little bit closer." Ben said, and slowly, he inched closer towards the bank, his camera still locked on me the whole way.
"Oh no, no no no no." I thought to myself, the scene before me an almost exact replication of what plays through my head almost every day now.
The voices were muffled, and then the camera man got closer, and closer still, until finally...
"Who are you?" A voice asked, and I think I might have actually screamed outloud.
"I am the King." I said, and it was much, much worse in the 3rd person.
Then, I flashed away, electricity left in my wake. Lina was staring at me incredulously. She must not have seen this yet, and it was almost like she was in awe, and also embarrassed for me all in one. I couldn't even read Clyde's face.
The scene ended, and the video went black. I actually might have started crying. I wasn't too sure, as I was busy supressing the urge to run home and lock myself in my room. Finally...
"Osidious Vanir, that was no doubt you, was it not?" Clyde asked.
"Y-yes sir." I said stiffly, and at this point, I was just waiting for my punishment.
However...
"That was goddamn incredible. Well done, boy." He said, and I just stared at him, blinking rapidly.
"Huh?"
