CHAPTER 13: FIRST QUARREL IV
Diana sat at home, she had woken up from her sleep and realized that her husband wasn't back yet. She had kept calling but he refused to pick her calls until the voice of the customer care on the other end of the line said, "the number you have dialed is currently switched off".
Diana panicked and felt tears roll down her cheeks. Was he still so angry with her that he wouldn't even pick her calls and he must not have eaten anything since morning either. She bit her lips crying and thinking about what to do when finally she decided to go to his office.
On her shorts and polo with her hair packed in a bun and a few strands dangling from the sides, her fluffy loafers on her leg, she stood up and turned to Nicodemus who had been standing by her side for a while now.
''I'm going out Nic''. Diana said wiping the tears off her face.
''Where to Ma'am, if i may ask and by this time?" Nic asked worriedly, trying not to sound too overbearing. He was starting to like her, something he rarely did so her safety was his utmost concern aside her being the bosses wife.
"I'm going to find my husband Nic," Diana responded a little too strongly than Nic expected.
"But Ma'am he will surely come back, just give him some time," Nicodemus made an attempt at persuading her again.
The tears that had already dried from Diana's eyes came pouring out again in torrents.
Nicodemus looked at her and sighed as he said to himself 'not again'. Earlier when she was crying, he didn't know what was making her cry but he guessed that she must have quarrelled for the first time with his boss and it was getting to her really bad and for the very first time, he did not know how to comfort her and now she was crying again. What was he supoosed to do now.
''Uncle Nik i really need to go. What if he comes back and pursues me out of the house what will i do then hmm?. I did something really stupid this morning and i did not even apologize i also kinda insulted him, so uncle Nik you see, i really do need to go, so please let me". Diana said with her head bent trying to look as pitiful as ever.
Nicodemus could not bare watching her like this so he quickly agreed. ''No problem'', Nicodemus started, ''but at least you should change first''.
''No need, there is no time" Diana responded as she rushed out of the house before he could stop her.
Before Diana reached the gate, she saw a car approaching her at full speed. The car stopped just in front of her as Antonio got out and opened the door for her.
"Nicodemus called me ma'am, i will take you to his work place".
''Okay'' Diana responded as she nodded and got into the car with Antonio.
The guys were just rounding up with their work when a knock was heard on the door.
At first the knocking seemed small but James heard it and did not pay much attention. The second time the knock was louder, it made the three men look at themeselves in unison.
''Are you expecting someone?" James looked at the both of them.
In both Angelo and Jared minds: its your office boss we should be asking you, but they only shook their heads in reality.
''Who's there?'' James voice sounded cold from inside the office.
''It's me boss'', Antonio's voice rang out.
The two men who were holding their breaths earlier unknown to them, sighed in relief.
''Come in,'' James said.
When the door opened, the person they were expecting to see wasn't the person who appeared at the door.
Diana appeared at the door and there she stood fairly tall at 5-8 inches in height, slender with ebony black complexion and small round eyes. Her arched brows, pointed nose and round cheeks that increased when she smiled giving a very unconventional touch to her typically good looks. The best feature in her face was by far her full natural red lips with a slight sensual pout giving her face an uncanny glamour.
James blinked and swallowed hard as he looked at her. He felt his throat go dry and had to swallow again to wet it.
What the hell was she thinking coming to his office in tight shorts that accentuated her curves perfectly and showed off her long legs, thick and shapely thighs coupled with a big polo that did nothing to hide it from his eyes and those fluffy slippers that made her feet look extra cute. Was she trying to mess with his mind?
But looking at her closely, he could tell she rushed out of the house in a hurry because he didn't miss the sweat that slipped off her head. Was it because he did not pick her calls, just why exactly was she here.
If he said he wasn't surprised as hell he was a fucking liar. He was slightly happy and relieved that she was here, but he was more pissed that she even came dressed like this and that damned Antonio just had to bring her here against his orders. Well he was definitely going to have a word with him.
James looked at the two men sitting before him and saw how they were shamelessly gawking at his wife especially his brother who was more on the ogling side.
He picked up two fountain pens from his desk cup, opened it, and threw it directly at the two men. The pens hit the mark it was targetted at which was their face. It stuck directly immediately it came in contact with their faces.
Both Jared and Antonio winced at the same time as they held the side of their faces and turned to look at a stone cold James glaring at them.
"Did you both forget your manners?"
Diana did not even notice the two men until he had spoken, she just kept looking at him since she appeared at the door.
Angelo quickly swallowed and unpinned the pen from his face as he turned back to Diana, standing up and bending slightly. ''Good evening ma'am''.
''Angelo!'' Diana said in a cheery voice, "how are you?"
''I'm very fine ma'am'', he responded to her raising his head back up and smiling lightly at her'.
She turned to Jared with looks that asked 'and you are?'
James looked at Diana and pointed towards Jared. ''This is my younger brother Jared''.
''Oh, brother-in-law'', Diana said as she walked towards him smiling and hugging him at the same time.
Jared was taken aback by the hug at first, but then he quickly overcame it smiling sheepishly as he hugged her back.
Angelo turned to look at his boss and felt his face turn green then red from anger and back to black.
Jared hugged her back for only a short while before she pulled away. He grinned and cooed slightly, ''i didn't know my sister-in-law is this cute and sexy!" He smiled and tugged at her already pointed nose affectionately.
Diana smiled feeling a little embarrassed at the compliment.
James had just had enough when he called out to his brother in a low warning tone that sounded more like a threat, ''Jared!"
Jared wasn't stupid, he quickly got the gist and just smiled lightly at her.
Diana looked at her husband and looked at the two men before she said, "can the both of you excuse us, i need to speak with my husband alone".
'Oh', so she remembers she has a husband James thought, and she was shamelessly hugging my younger brother few moments ago well he was not having any of her bullshit.
Just before Angelo and Jared could react, James scoffed and spoke coldly. ''They are going nowhere. If you have something to say, say it in front of them".
Tear's gathered in Diana's eyes and instead of letting them fall, she bent her head and swallowed it back before she started speaking.
''Look i'm really sorry about this morning, i only realized it few hours after you were gone and then i tried making it up to you, i went to the shopping mall and got really nice gifts and even made a table full of dishes for you but you wouldn't come back and then i started calling but you switched off your phone so i hurriedly rushed out of the house to come find you against Nicodemus and Antonio's idea, i really regret and if you could just come back with me...." Diana choked on the last word and swallowed before she continued, "so if you could just come back now with me i promise it won't happen again''. Diana finished in one breath.
Jared looked at her and immediately felt pity for her. He had liked her the moment he saw her standing scared at the door not knowing what to do. She looked so innocent, pure and beautiful that he could not just help liking her immediately, hence why he felt pity for her now that she went through all this stress just for this stony, evil brother of his. It would explain why he had switched off his phone earlier and why she was dressed like this.
Angelo too thought along the same lines as Jared. Both feeling pity for this their boss's new wife.
