-Rural Village, Thalassia Kingdom
Ascella's POV*
I don't know if doing magic is simple but I somehow grasped how to do it easily. But judging from the shocked look on my father's face then I might have done something special. Molding mana into something else was rather simple thing to do so I tried many things using it. Father also mentioned that people's mastery of elements are based on their aptitude so me basically being able to do any of the 6 elements is a genius never seen before. When I asked why, father said that even the Great Spirits couldn't use the other elements beside their own so a person having 2-3 elements is already considered genius. Father boasted that he is a genius since his fire magic is more potent than the others.
The old man already taught me the system. Its basically like this. :5th class mage—4th class mage—3rd class mage—2nd class mage—1st class mage—Grand Mage and lastly Sage. Well the system here is really weak as you can be considered an 5th class mage if you could see the mana in the atmosphere. That's almost the same as doing nothing but praying. How lame. The requirement for 4th class mage is to move the mana until you could atleast get it closer to you and so on. That old man still didn't tell me the requirements for the others as he said that it was for me to look not for him to teach. Well, achieving things by myself is rather acceptable as the satisfaction of learning something is a great pleasure for me.
I am currently in my room molding the mana into many things, I conjured fireball, waterball, small wind cyclone, and a ball of rock. This is what I achieved after practicing for a few hours. Now from the common sense of the people of this world my feats is scary. Scary enough that they would deem me as an abomination if they witness what I am currently doing. Of course my old man doesn't know about how far I progress as I left him alone after learning how to control the mana. The only thing he knew is that I could already conjure an fireball. Still I heard the old man muttering something about century genius.. is he really an once in a century genius? Maybe I shouldn't expect more about those mages that live in the royal capital since if father the crowned genius is still at that level then just how disappointing would those mages be?
Well, I don't intend to live my life being connected to those peoples anyway. I would rather travel and eat a lot of foods than to always fight for the sake of others, I just hate that. It seems like my parents thought that I would leave this village very soon.. though they are not wrong since in this world my age is already considered adult, I won't stay in a rural area like this without any entertainment. Speaking of entertainment, there is none here. As far as I know, the only entertainment that they have here is tourney. Anyway back to my magic, I am currently trying to stuff the mana in the air into my body, I want to make them my own reserves so that I wouldn't need to borrow someone else's mana. I don't know if those mana in the air are connected to some being out there so I really need to be cautious.
I eventually got bored of this situation so I went downstairs and left the house after asking permission from my parents. Walking outside, I can see the peaceful village that looked something out of a fantasy story. It was an amazing sight for me who only witnessed the gray society. I saw a nice place that seemed like a perfect place for a view of the sunset so I slowly walked towards that place while appreciating the other views. The villagers seemed to be surprised by how I was currently acting though I can understand their feelings since seeing a usually emotionless boy walking around with a smile on his face would really creep me out.
I reached a big tree that covered a large amount of place with its leaves. The tree was a mystery itself since it was one of its kind from all of the trees that I witnessed in this village. Slowly walking towards it, I tilted my head when I felt a slight movement from the other side of the tree. My curiosity got ahead of me as I walked to the place, thats when I witnessed something that really grabbed my attention. Magical purple hair along with those mystical ruby eyes. I couldn't help but take a step back upon seeing that otherworldly beauty infront of me, though my reaction might have scared her since the frightened look on her eyes revealed it all.
I took another step back to get some distance from her leading to her being relieved. Everything about the girl would have been perfect if only I didn't notice the vast difference between our sizes. She was small, so small that even my hand is bigger than her, 'Oh, I don't really know if this is even a being so calling it 'her' is wrong' I erased the silly thought out of my head and slowly approached her when I saw that she was already fine in my presence. "...Hey? What are you?" I asked while maintaining a neutral expression on my face. The little thing stiffened but still gathered her courage to respond, "G-Genib is Genib!" She shouted. I tilted my head at that before smiling gently. "So Genib is it? What species are you? Can you explain more?" I added.
"I am—? Human can see Genib?" She was about to introduce herself when she suddenly realized how baffling this situation is.. or how I would like to describe based on her expression. "Hm? Should I not suppose to?" I asked. "B-But..! Humans shouldn't be able to see spirits!" She explained as I gained some understanding. "So you are a spirit? Quite a news to me.. wait, I thought spirits are those things that are floating in the air? Are they not?" I gave that question to her as she tilted her head. "Genib is a spirits while those little things are lesser spirits, they don't have consciousness like Genib have" Ghe, her calling those things as small is not really amusing to see. Still.. there are orders in the world of spirits huh? I want to know more about them but handling her is my first priority.
"Why are here far from your home? I thought that magical beings like you live in the Eastern Reaches?" I asked while making myself comfortable under the shade of the tree. "G-Genib.. don't know" she said sadly, "How do you not know? Did you perhaps lose your memory or something?" I continued my information gathering. After I said those words, Genib's eyes began shining, "H-How do you know that!? G-Genib indeed lost her memories during my travel. The only thing Genib could remember is her mission.." My interest got hooked by the word mission, I raised my eyebrow at her before asking, "Can I ask what that mission is?" Her face got into a troubled expression as she frantically shook her head, "N-No... Genib could not disclose the mission! Fae-sama did not permit me!" Ah, well I expected that much. I was pushing my luck too far so this result is not that surprising.
"Then I won't dwell on it anymore, on the other hand.. could you tell me more about spirits like you?" I said smiling gently at her. She got energized upon seeing that I won't look deep into her mission as she talked more about the spirits to me. Informations that I never read before was released from her mouth until she eventually got exhausted. "Haah.. haah.. haah, Genib is tired.." she said between her panting. "How do spirits rest? Do you sleep like normal people? Or is there a more complex process?" I asked, "Sleeps don't work on us spirits, gathering mana from the atmosphere or vanishing to thin air will do for us.. we can always return every morning so that is the thing we always do" She explained as I nodded my head. "Then why don't you use the first option? Its much easier right?" I asked gaining a reaction from her.
"Huh? No, first option is more harder than the second one. The viscosity of the mana is much higher for us spirits since those lesser spirits instinctively avoid us who got a higher rank than them. It results to us not being able to gather mana.." she said making me understood. "I see, does that kind of thought affect you aswell?" I said tilting my head, "Yes, if there is a Greater Spirit here then there will be no doubt that Genib will run for her life immediately" she explained while puffing her chest, I had no clue why she is so proud about that but I just ignored it. Now for my first stroll outside the house, this is rather an lucky meeting. I wonder if things will continue just like this?
