It's Monday today and I'm on my way to our room. When I entered the room, Blake, Phoebe, Jane, and Kath were already there, but Gray wasn't.
"Hi, Emily!!!" Phoebe shouted.
They greeted me one by one, saying good morning, and I greeted them back. Kath greeted me too, so I guess she's not be mad at me for that message I send her.
"OMG, I'm excited for the ball," Jane said.
"Me too, even though I don't have a prom date yet," Kath said.
"You'll should be jealous of me. Last night, the handsome guy from the other section messaged me and invited me. Yaaahhh!" phoebe said, feeling giddy.
"Don't worry, Kath. Maybe later or tomorrow someone will ask you to be their prom date," I said.
"Many have asked her already, but she's picky," Jane said.
"You know, we should be selective. Maybe that person has a bad attitude or isn't a gentleman," Kath said.
I looked at Blake, but he was staring at Kath. Huh? Or maybe he was just looking at something else.
Our conversation was interrupted because our teacher arrived, followed by Gray, who had a cold aura. He went straight to his seat.
I looked at Gray, but he was staring straight ahead. I wonder what's wrong with him. Maybe it's because of the emergency last Saturday.
"Blake Elsher." "Present, ma'am."
"Gray Ricaford." "Present, ma'am."
"Phoebe Forts." "Present, ma'am."
"Jane Raven." "Present, ma'am."
"Kathy Levine." "Present, ma'am."
"Emily Cruz."
"Emily Cruz?"
I didn't realize I was staring blankly. Kath nudged me and said the teacher was checking the attendance.
"Present, ma'am." pwee it's good that ma'am didn't scolded me for not paying attention
As the class continued, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off with Gray. His usually friendly demeanor was replaced by a distant and solemn expression. I glanced at him from time to time, hoping to catch his attention or at least offer some support, but he remained lost in his own thoughts.
During a break, I decided to approach Gray and find out if everything was alright. I quietly walked over to his desk, trying not to disturb the other students engrossed in their conversations.
But he suddenly stood up and went towards Kath's direction. All our classmates were looking at him, waiting to see what he would do. He took a deep breath and said to Kath with conviction, "Kathy Levine, will you be my prom date?" I was stunned. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to leave, but my feet wouldn't move. I heard Kath answer with a yes, and they were cheered on by our classmates.
After that scene, they headed towards the cafeteria, but I made an excuse to follow them later because I had somewhere to go. I went straight to the rooftop and cried there.
Why? Why does it hurt so much? Do you know the feeling of being betrayed? That's what I'm feeling right now, it hurts. Why, Gray? I wish you had told me when we saw each other or texted me to let me know that you didn't want to be my prom partner, so I could have prepared myself.
The feeling of betrayal is hurting me, as I continue to cry, someone hand me a handkerchief.
"Tsk, you cry too much," Nicholas said, but I didn't accept the handkerchief. Instead, I cried even more.
He wiped away my tears while complaining about my runny nose and the specks of dirt in my tears. I couldn't help but laugh at his constant complaining.
"That's what I want to see, a happy Emily," he said.
"Tsk, everyone feels pain, so I'm not always happy," I said.
"That's true, that's why I'm here to make you happy," he said and smiled.
"Tsk," I sighed and looked at the sky. We both fell silent; he probably knew I needed to calm myself down.
Sigh, Emily, you shouldn't be crying anymore. You went through something worse with your future self. Remember, you're going to change your life.
When I was ready to speak, I told him what happened and said that Gray invited me to be his prom date, but I didn't know what happened afterwards. I also told him that he was the only one that knows that gray offer me to be his prom date.
"Well, you're also stupid. There are more handsome guys out there than Gray," he said.
"That's not the point. The point is I feel betrayed by what he did," I said.
"Ugh, why are you all making a big deal out of prom?" he said.
"Do you still not have a partner?" I asked.
"It's a secret," he grinned.
"Oh, by the way, I will now collect the debt of gratitude you owe me," she said.
"Tsk, you still remember that?" I said.
"Of course," she replied.
"So, what can I do for you, dear king?" I said sarcastically, but she just laughed at me.
"Just say yes to my question later," she said seriously.
"Huh? Is that it? Really? Seriously? What if you ask something later?" I said.
But she didn't want to speak, so I kept bugging her, but she ran away, so I chased after her.
We chased each other until the bell rang, signaling the start of class, and we bid our goodbyes.
I slowed down my pace to let ma'am go ahead of me, fearing that the two of them might ask why I didn't follow and it would be awkward when I see Kath. I don't know, this is just how I feel.
When I reached the room, ma'am was already there, and she scolded me and making me sit down. As I walked to my seat, I could feel eyes following me, ready to ask many questions.
Class had started, and I listened carefully. After a few minutes, ma'am gave a pop quiz. Luckily, I had been paying attention.
It's time to go home, and I aced the quiz. Kath, Phoebe, and Jane approached me, seemingly about to ask something, but then my classmate called me.
"Emily, someone is looking for you," one of my classmates said.
I was about to leave, but the person looking for me entered with a rose in hand. It's Nicholas, and he walked towards me with a big smile. He handed me the rose and asked me,
"Emily Cruz, will you be my prom date?" he asked. Was this what he was talking about earlier?
"Yes," I answered, and my classmates cheered.
