Chapter 27- Ten Spoons Of Sugar

The man's face turned completely pale as he quickly turned around to stare at his boss before the latter could realize what he had done.

"Anything else?" Luckily, he didn't seem to notice and instead asked a casual question.

"No, boss, that's all of it."

"Good. Hmm, why do you look pale?"

"P-Pale? Oh, i-it's nothing, sir."

"That won't do. Sit down and rest, do you want a cup of coffee?" The boss said.

"But, bo-"

"Just sit down."

The man couldn't refuse anymore and nodded his head as he took a seat. The room was submerged in silence again as the boss made another cup of coffee for him. Meanwhile, the woman that just woke up didn't seem to bother by the fact that another man could see her naked… Well, if he turned around that is.

"How much sugar do you want?" The boss asked him.

"T-Two teaspoons."

After that, the boss took the sugar container again and started putting the sugar in the coffee. One spoon…

"This coffee is a great way to start the day, you know?"

"Yes."

Two spoons…

"Have you ever tasted these beans? They're imported from Telisia. Quite rich in flavor."

Three spoons…

"Y-Yes." The man's eyes went to the cup of coffee that was already on its to be filled with the fourth spoonful of sugar. However, he couldn't really find the opportunity to tell his boss to stop as the latter was seemingly going from one topic to another.

"But, to be honest, I have one problem with these beans. They are actually hard to crush. You know, when I try to grind them, they take way longer than normal. Isn't that dumb? They're beans, small and weak and yet they try to oppose their fate."

"It's tough."

Fifth spoon…

"It's like they're trying to fight me off and survive even though they knew that it would be pointless. I hate prolonging the inevitable and that's why they annoy me."

Sixth spoon…

'How many more are you going to add, boss?!' The man screamed in his head as he tried to keep a fairly composed expression.

Eventually, the boss stopped the sugar spoons at the tenth, even more than his own coffee. Then, he started mixing it together before handing it to his subordinate.

"Drink."

"..."

"I said, drink."

The subordinate looked at the cup of coffee with a hesitant look before he nodded his head and took a sip. Instantly, a rush of overwhelming sweetness attacked his tongue making him almost spit out the coffee.

'Too sweet.'

But, he knew that spitting the coffee would be akin to an insult to his boss and that is the last thing he wanted to do. So, he closed his eyes and drank the coffee in one gulp. His stomach churned and a strong urge to throw up assaulted his brain but he tried to ignore it.

"Bluh… Hah… Hah…" After getting the last drop, the subordinate breathed a sigh of relief.

"Did you like it?" The boss asked.

"Y-Ye-" As the poor man was about to nod, he was cut off ruthlessly.

"Say the truth."

"... It was… too sweet."

"Too sweet for you, huh? Well, isn't that the same as your attempt at looking at my wife's naked body? Your small brain can't handle that much sweetness as you were born to only look at things that you can handle. The same for this coffee. That's why." The boss's voice grew colder and colder. "Don't you dare look at my wife. You are unworthy of even taking a small glimpse of her face let alone her body."

"Yes!! My deepest apologies!!"

After that, the man turned around and tried to leave the room as quickly as possible. In a sense, he was relieved that the boss forgave him after that warning alone.

Except…

*BANG*

As the man was about to open the door, the loud sound of a gun firing a bullet reached his ear before a strong pain assaulted his chest. Looking down with horrified eyes, he saw a bullet hole where his heart was and blood was spilling out profusely.

"N-No…" Before he could even finish a sentence, he already slumped down on the ground, motionless.

"Like hell, I will let you leave after seeing my wife."

At the same time, the woman in question stood up from the bed, letting the blanket slide over her naked body and fall down before she strode seductively toward her husband, ignoring the dead corpse as if it was the most normal room decoration.

"You started the day loudly, my love~" She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.

"People don't understand their positions properly. This is the seventh idiot that I had to waste a bullet on this month.

"Fufufufu~ I like that side of you. A wild beast that is possessive of his lovely wife." She responded with a gentle chuckle.

"Anyway, I think it's time to pay a certain someone a visit."

"Oh, already?"

"Mhm, I'm sure he will be quite delighted with knowing that I killed his daughter."

One day later.

"Are we close, Rain?" Asher asked as he walked lazily.

"Almost."

"Sigh, what a headache." Murmuring to himself, the boy fidgeted with the sword in his hand with a bored look.

'I never liked walking for long distances and yet that's the only thing I did for the past few days.'

"Look, we are there." At that moment, Rain pointed at a faraway location that they could see from their high ground.

"Oh? That's the southern settlement?" Asher blinked in surprise at the sight of their destination.

The southern settlement was very unique in the sense that it was actually near what seemed to be a forest. A full-blown thick forest. Many would question why a forest exists in the middle of a ruined massive city and the answer is… Nobody knows.

Since the apocalypse happened and the evolution of all creatures alike, the world also faced great changes with the appearance of forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, and even seas. It was a sudden change that barely took 50 or so years to happen.

Other than that, the southern settlement had a vibe that Asher immediately recognized.

'It looks eerily similar to feudal Japan.' He thought as his eyes sparkled with excitement.
